Bragging about women makes men feel manly, you know... :p

Sometimes you meet that certain someone who is your kryptonite? Axlerowes makes me not just hate him, but the process of writing. He wrings the joy out of creative expression the way a high school teacher skullfucks the passion out of Shakespeare.

I confess... I haven't read any of his feedback, but I have read my share of feedback throughout the years.

Everybody hates a critic, and we'd all love good feedback, preferably of the positive sort.

Being artistic and pouring everything you got out here on the web can be harsh, I know that...
But at the end of the day I think we need armor.

    And just acknowledge that:
... there are fucktards out there that should be shot on sight (the internet is full of those)
... not everything we write will be masterpieces
... some things we write ARE masterpieces, but will never be acknowledged as such (perhaps one day... when we are long gone. Perhaps then ;)

I dunno... Just chill, I guess.

Now... What kind of adventure will I serve my young group of adventureres, age 8-16 tomorrow? Hmmmm...

There is a difference between positive criticism and constructive criticism, those are both great things.

Sometimes Axle has made some entirely valid observations, such as his comment on Flight of the Pegasus. He hit the nail on the head, but I didn't see it because I was caught up in writing. But in some of his comments on other stuff it's not so much pointing out flaws in the writing or the concept, but pointing out perceived flaws in the writer themselves.

Interesting work, you voted for Ron Paul?

Reading a few of them, after seeing this thread, it seems that he is somewhat condescending, hyper critical and not super open to opposing viewpoints that go against his observance.

He has a very strong, specific viewpoint of things and it can be a bit overwhelming....and super annoying.

So... Basically yet another GM with a god complex?

Who would have thunk it? LOL
  7. Re: The backyard of admin fury!

    #127
    Actually...

I've seen the same God Complex in programmers (within the confines of certain companies)
In salespeople (top salesmen in companies)
In management (recently successful after years of struggling)
    In pretty chicks
    etc...

    It is ALWAYS annoying! :P

To return to the original topic...

To **** with German managers and a never-ending job search! **** all that pickiness and looking for just the right fit! And **** Berlin, while we're at it. Some days it's going for the title of the shittiest city in the world.

Anyway. Don't mind me, just passing through. Great to see you folks again!

France, for your information, already surrendered. :)

A blind girl scout troop from what I recall. They got lost in Paris, ended up at the Eiffel Tower and stumbled into President Fromage Baguette who panicked and surrendered

Sure, randomly pop out from the darkness, don't read through anything before you slam it, poop on every new idea, b-itch a bunch, then disappear again. Terrif! :x

I totally don't mind dissension. Hell, I'VE still got reservations about going forward with this. But honestly, at least read the fucking thread before you vomit forth verbal diarrhea about things that have already been discussed. *headdesk*

The grammar comments are really starting to piss me off.

I keep contemplating The Law of Hammering the Grammar Nazi.

No offense (well, kindof)...who cares if I mispeled a wurd. GIVE ME some real comments about the f'n IDEA!!!

So, maybe a "Grammar Correction" link to a PM near the comments? People will do it, fine, but some spelling changes nothing for the purpose of the submission on this site, to freely exchange ideas.

No I am not going to argue because I know grammar does matter.....but, really, NO IT DOESN'T. It is the IDEA! Power through it!

    I've been drinking.

Ignore the room full of smashed furniture, broken windows, and suspiciously fist shaped holes in the walls.

I have no comment on the matter at hand.

    Corect spelling is very important.
  18. Re: The backyard of admin fury!

    #138
They both matter. I have no apologies.

If you care enough to post, you care enough to do a good job.

I have looked at thousands of submissions, and commented on spelling grammar on a very small subset of that.

If we do not comment on sub quality, then our quality will drop, and I personally will lose interest.

All feedback is good. Some of mine includes grammar and typoes.  Some of my subs have grammar and spelling issues. I want to know.

We are more than ideas - we are quality.

I beleive in the Golden standard.

I have removed more contriversal thoughts on this.

Interesting. I wrote that assuming it was I who you were referring to.  I'll leave it there nonetheless since it outlines my belief on the subject.

Goss could have been less harsh - say something good before saying something bad.  As it stands, it was not helpful and thats unfortunate.

What to do? A PM perhaps to try to get Goss to add sugar with the medicine.

It seemed like such a good idea when described in the article I read.

Just because you are passionate about something doesn't mean we are too. Just because you have an idea that is better than ours doesn't mean your idea is better than ours.

I have a feeling she(?) will take offense to what I said again (and my annoyance probably bled through in the writing a bit) and stomp away.

Makes me sad that people take it all so seriously, but I guess I should be used to it now.

Sometimes this site makes me tired and upset. I would love to make everybody happy and give all that they want....but many are very unreasonable in their expectations.

And it is interesting that Goss is mentioned in that last main topic change in this thread dating back to January.

    fffffffffffffffffffffffffuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

Sometimes I want to crawl into a hole. Maybe I just should say "Suck it, it is my site. Law of the Llama bitches."

I knew I'd find you here before long!! :)

Speak freely for here we are all brothers.

And yeah so fucking annoying with the "aggression" that seems to drip from her.

My 2 cents...please ignore it, it'll die down. Continue with your day, have fun!!

^ This, oh so much this. She seems to hold grudges too, and then drags them out and the most inopportune time to cause conflicts that will put her firmly in the spot light >.<

It's that kind of abrasive conflict seeking attitude that makes me so desperately wish I could sign her up for a long few months at the nearest military boot camp.

There are some days when the commentary makes me hate writing, because I don't know how to fucking take it. Is it a joke, are they being an ass, What the actual fuck do they want?

Which sub/comment are you referring to?

Some people, (like Rage Guy) seemed to have enjoyed causing conflict via commentary, others simply lack the people skills to communicate effectively, it;s even more of a frustration when trying to write for a living attempting to sort the useful criticism from the crap.
  30. Re: The backyard of admin fury!

    Mmmmm... Axlerowes?

He's the only one that has gotten to me with his commentary :p he would write massive articles up in reply, psychoanalyzing and cross-checking every line of the sub to make sure they were in line with how he thought they should be. As though he assumed everyone was writing their shit just for him! Also, he loves a good debate, which I hate haha.

Anywho. Back to the Aether.  :cthulhu:

Yeeeeah...Um. This is pretty much a huge factor in why I've stopped writing subs. I just don't feel like dealing with his bullshit on Every. Single. Goddamn. Sub. I can break his arguments into little pieces, sure, but as I've grown older the appeal of winning internet debates has sharply declined. I simply don't care anymore (or at least, not enough to make it worthwhile to put up a fight).
  32. Re: The backyard of admin fury!

Then ignore him, and his vote.  Don't let one person affect whether or not you post. Don't hand someone the power.

It's a double edged thing, he does put time and effort into it, but it;s infuriating to read, each compliment has an insult in it, and each criticism contains praise.

It makes me not want to write. I know that makes me sound like a delicate flower or a primadonna, but for fucks sake I write here because I enjoy writing, and this is a form of therapy, and he's fucking with that.
  35. Re: The backyard of admin fury!

    #155
He did the same thing with my Evelyn's Path supers fic I posted up a few months back, it was like having some un-hired editor critiquing my work to whatever end, truth be told I was rather glad when he got tired of it and moved on to someone else's subs.

I think he feels like he's doing people some kind of favor by going into such depth on a review, but still, it wears thin after a while.

Although, even with how much of a drag his feedback can be, I'll take that over a one liner or vote with no comment any day.

    Edit:

Thinking more on this, perhaps send him a pm and tell him you're not after that level of critique on his work and others might benefit from him redirecting his energies towards their subs? Letting him politely know he's wasting his time nit picking your subs should encourage him to move on without rocking the boat too much.

    #$%^

Tried to ask Goss and Mystic to tone it it down, and now MM's taken his ball and gone home.

    My email:

"Can we please discuss this without dropping to the personal insult stage?  There is plenty to tear into with the game systems instead of each other."

C'est Tut.  Enough to say fuck it, I'm going home?

    Did I mess up here?

  37. Re: The backyard of admin fury!

    #157
Do we need 'please be civil guys, if thats okay' or do I need to be more 'K, thats it mutherfukas. Next one to throw an insult gets banned into next week. Got it?"

Or fuck it, let them tear each other a new asshole.

    Another other possibilities?

Great start back from the holidays.
  38. Re: The backyard of admin fury!

Some behind the scenes intel on Goss + Mystic:

They formerly were close friends until a few weeks back when Goss got  pissed off at Mystic that he wouldn't visit some my little pony site she's a fan of, and then hurled some pretty vile insults his way in full chat killing the friendship, and they've been in a cold war since.

So this Goss vs. Mystic spat has been coming for a short while now since that incident, so this is more a personal feud between them and the rule system discussion is just a convenient platform to tear into each other from.

Not to take sides here but Mystic generally dislikes conflict (Vs. Goss seeming to revel in) so his departure isn't unexpected from what I know of him, and with Goss's willingness to hold a grudge she's likely to dredge this up down the road at some point when/if Mystic does return.

So, my suggestion would be to tell them both to take it to pm's and hash it out there, or tell Goss to can it and shelve her attitude or else? Letting it keep public I foresee will only serve to fuel Goss's inane, (insane?) need for drama and being the center of attention, which is something best avoided. (Don't feed the trolls and such.)

    My  :twocents: on it anyway.

    Edit:

"'K, thats it mutherfukas. Next one to throw an insult gets banned into next week. Got it?"

Or this, which would make it clear to Goss using Strolens as a venue to dispense her acidic attitude (and making it clear to Mystic not to fuel her efforts) and might work as a virtual clue-by-four upside Goss's head not to stir up trouble on the site for her own amusement.

Interestingly enough, a PM to me from Goss indicates Goss thinks that everything _is_ being civil.

Interestingly enough, a PM to me from Goss indicates Goss thinks that everything _is_ being civil.

    :dizzy:

Her definition of "civil" is like a Ferengi's definition of "a fair trade"  Trying to explain to her the reasoning behind her conclusion being far removed from reality is likely to just refocus her angst on whoever tells her, which might be a good or bad thing? :dunno:

Either way I get the feeling now Mystic's posted with his intention to leave for a while Goss is still spoiling for a conflict and is on the hunt for a new adversary to fuel her drama addiction. (When Carly gets home tonight I'll give her a gentle nudge not to get drawn into any fights with Goss in Val's Thereafter ooc thread given the recent discourse there makes it her next likely choice for picking a fight now Mystic's no longer playing ball.)

Perhaps a friendly suggestion from an admin for Goss to take a few days vacation from the site as well and come back with a better attitude would help her take the hint?
