Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#281AAAAHHHH! Another fucking sub about voting.
Fuck! -
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#282It is just because I told him to mind his manners when he tried to dictate me about world events in a fucking science fiction setting.
Got his feathers ruffled and now he is all riled up, shouting from the soap box.
Yeah, I know I could have ceased fire long before, but he wouldn't back down, and I am not one to avoid a good fight.
Yep. I was never any good at picking my fights, but you already knew that ;) -
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#283I'm too fucking tired to be boiling over with rage but Jesus fucking Mohammud on a cracker singing the rain.
It's always fucking something with this guy, c'mon guy, you don't buy shit, you constantly complain and keep coming back, what the actual fuck do you want?
At what point are you going to realize that I'm not fucking writing for you, I'm not.
You're fucking watching me dice potatoes and are bitching that the soup looks like a bunch of fucking potatoes. Pillock!!! You're in my goddamn motherfucking kitchen, get the fuck out. I start mincing carrots and fuck all you're back again bitching that the carrots are crunchy and aren't very good soup.
It's going to take time, and you're looking at the prep work, you're watching me sort the good and bad ideas the fuck out. There isn't story, there isn't a hook because I'M NOT WRITING A GODDAMN STORY I'M FIGURING SHIT OUT.
Fuck all.
Fuck.
shit.
ass
thunderous cunt fart
fuck. -
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#284Muro, you gotta give that axlerowes character some kind of award for 2015. I have never seen Scrasamax this riled up during the 11 years I have been a Strolenite.
Not in the 2 years i was a lurker either.
-
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#285This is going to sound nuts but...
I think axle comments the way he does on Scras' stuff because he loves the writing. Otherwise he wouldn't bother. Does that make sense? Like a young girl who pulls a young boys hair or kicks him because she likes him. :D -
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#286Perhaps.
I have been thinking about another thing...
Voting isn't exactly taking off around here. Perhaps we should just accept people who aren't very good with their words, and just let a stupid fucking comment be a stupid fucking comment?
If they give us a 2, and an insulting comment... Let them.
At least we got their vote. -

It absolutely makes sense, and then it makes me feel like a colossal asshole for getting mad about it.
It still pisses me off, but I think it's one of those things that a couple hours in a pub with some good beer would sort itself out very quickly, because there is a lot of stuff that doesn't come through my writing.
I'm fucking tired. My word schedule is a regular kick in balls.
My health is okay, but I'm on blood pressure meds, and that is something that messes with me.
I spend lots of time alone because that's how my schedule is.
I see my wife an hour a day through the week, and that depresses me because after being together 16 years and married 13 years, we still do a lot of those disgusting cute things honeymooners do, like take forever to say goodbye.
And I come here and write.
I write to iron out details for my novel, to sort out good ideas and bad ideas, and get a feel for things. When I write a dry, dull, technical sub, I know it's dry and dull and fucking technical. When I am working out logistics of how things operate I don't need a story, it's parts inside the machine. When the machine is put together, all the valves, gaskets, nuts and bolts are all but invisible. But they are there, doing their job.
I wanted to make a comment but I refrained. I'm goddamn tired, and there's what Muro said. He wouldn't comment if he didn't care.
But FUCK
Offer to help me.
Not offer criticism help, but step up and offer to help with those stats or that story.
He makes good, but unfortunately useless points. I'm not going to make a story around flying trucks because I don't need a story there, I just need the trucks to fly, and to put them into place. If something is in the Cosmic Era, it's there for a reason and it's not the Rule of Cool. It has to make it's own internal sense.
Zeppelins are common in alternate history because look these are coooool and we don't see them, look how crazy it is. There are zeppelins in the Cosmic Era, much more so in it's past because in a time of material scarcity, crumbling infrastructure and all that, a zeppelin can offer safe cargo carrying abilities for very low cost. Solar panels across the top, powering electric props, gas bladders that once filled only have to be maintained. No gasoline, no roads, no built up airports, just a flying truck that can land on top of a building. Because it worked.
Sigh.

Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#288I am still cooling down from this and the latest incidents of stupidity and incivility.
I generally try and stay out of it till I have enough, then come down a bit hard on folks in PMs or creating the law of the hammer. Etc.
In this case I debated the pros and cons of alienating everyone except those I care about and going nuclear. It is getting to the point (and might be there already) that I simply don't give a shit about anybody except the Strolenati. Not just any bullshit Strolenati but The Strolenati. To hell with the rest. They come and go so why should we give a shit about making them happy. We are the core. We have been here FOREVER yet we can't enjoy OUR site. The place we should have the creative freedom to just enjoy each other.
It pisses me off and makes me sad. But I am basically an absentee father so who am I to come broiling into the place, slapping people around and then disappearing again.
So I find myself at a loss...often...on how to handle things. All I know is that I hate that the Strolenati don't find this place welcome anymore. That SUCKS CRAB DICK. And good luck finding the crab dick which makes it all the more painful.
I know this is for rants (exhibit A) and I am glad we do it....just wish there was a way to make the rants more fun and carefree.
I always think that a new format with new code engines and rules that control the content, comments and such can help it. New voting procedures, hide stuff until there are enough votes, not showing who votes etc etc...just mechanics.
But you can never stop the troll. Never stop the ill conceived comment that a thoughtless jackass spews without thinking. Never taking into consideration the other person's feelings or motivations, only thinking selfishly about their own perceptions and not understanding (caring?) how they come across.
Common decency. Such a rare and difficult trait to promote in many circumstances.
Then again, I have been watching Sons of Anarchy lately so I might be a little too deep thinking SAMCRO style fixes to temporary problems.
Still, why the fuck do stupid sites with idiotic systems, shitty design and horrible ideas sometimes get such a HUGE gathering and all we get is 10K lurkers a month and high and mighty assholes that expect us to bow to them? WTF!?!?! -
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#289What are they doing right that we're doing wrong? -
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#290I wish I knew.
And maybe if we all come to the defense of shitty, rude comments....we can get the point across?

Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#291Andy by come to the defense, I don't mean attack the commenter like I did (that was to make a second point after the first issue I had with that person which had to be settled over PMs) but to come to the defense of the submission itself and ignore the comment. -
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#292Trying to decide if I am a bastard for not caring that Morningstar decided to leave...
If they can't take a little dish back, then that is the main issue with some. They like to call out other people but are offended when we are critical of something they did. I had to go through PMs with him on an earlier issue to where he was a putz and didn't get it. I think we could dig up a half dozen or more of only him calling other people out. Whatevers.
At least it seems like axle gets the point, our other problem child that doesn't know how words translate over the web.
In the long run, this will all be worth it.
Le sigh. -
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#293I won't miss him. He was a douche.
Yes, he commented a lot, but he stopped me from wanting to write anymore. Probably lots of others too.
-
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#294Agreed.
Say the word, and I will simply delete these kind of comments when I see them. I've been pro free speech to this point, but I think allowing negative comments to remain probably has not helped. Lets emphasize the friendly side.
-
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#295Maybe do this like we did old school deletions. Copy and paste what you are going to delete into a forum "delete thread" with a link back to the post and/or a copy of the original post before the rudeness is removed.
At this point, I think I am very comfortable removing the crap and cleansing a bit. No more free speech! Down with our freedoms! -
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#296Almost all sites on the internet enforce moderation and kill the trolls.
I don't think anyone, and I mean anyone, wants to read irrelevant content.
Let us kill these things:
- Overly emotional "fuck you guys, I am going home" comments a la EchoMirage
- This is shit comments, a la morningstar
- I hate you guys, I quit the site! comments a la MysticMoon.
I love guys like EchoMirage, so let them ALL know, that from now on... Negative content will be deleted with extreme prejudice.
Rule suggestion:
1) The admin doing the deleting will NEVER be a part in the conflict. Always a neutral party.
2) We create a short standard text that we copy and paste, informing a user that they have violated the rules of the site, and their comment has been deleted. -
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#297So I guess I will need to come up with a new Law of the Hammer type thing.
Then we can put "This comment was removed (or edited) for a violation of the Citadel's strict code of commenting etiquette. if you believe this action was made in error, please contact Strolen through PM."
I would say go ahead and use this now as you find the BS. Throw it at the bottom of the comment block.
For comments that have no redeeming quality. I say delete the offending comment entirely...like deleted out of existence. If all that is left is the above, the to hell with it.

Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#298Thank you -
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#299So hard not to say 'Hey, ever heard of spellchecker? Cult of Done is no excuse for not even spellchecking. At all...'
https://strolen.com/viewing/8249
I fixed a bunch on the first half - could not help myself. But the constant misspelling of countries, places, names, thier and the?
*Bites Tongue*
-
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#300Lol I just finished reading that recently and had same reaction. For the love of Beelzebub, can you spell *anything*???? Lol -
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#301:)
And I guess I just had to throw a tantrum to get a little action in this place. hehe -
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#302Now the next problem: too much activity! :p -
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#303Not quite so much fury as WTF. Why do half of Cheka's submissions involve itching in some manner.
I also get the feeling he has not actually participated in an RPG :)
-
Re: The backyard of admin fury!
#304Yep, had the same thoughts recently (again). I almost "let him have it" on his last submission, but had to count to ten and resist of course.
7 "new" spells...
Scratch and itch, silence, fear, insect repellent. I felt like saying..."These spells have been around for 40 years for the love of god!!! Were you under the assumption that you just invented these???"
Anyhoo, the reason for all the itchy and scratchy in every other post apparently has to do with some fungal infection he has or something, that causes him to incessantly scratch it. It's also the reason for his semi-regular "bbl bubble-bath time!!"
At least that's what he told us in chat some 6-7 years back. I guess that fungus just isn't going away.
