Absolutely. It's almost as bad as hydroxyl acid, dihydrous oxide, hydrogen hydroxide, fundamental anhydride, and oxydihydrogen.

I read the following by Steven Feuerstein. My guess is that it goes for RPG developers and GMs too! (Except the darn good living part).
Chances are, if you are a software professional, you are a fairly smart individual. You studied hard, you honed your skills, and now you make a darn good living writing code. You can solve almost any problem you are handed, and that makes you proud.

Unfortunately, your success can also make you egotistical, arrogant, and reluctant to seek out help when you are stumped. This dynamic is one of the most dangerous and destructive aspect of software development.

    No GM is an island!

Aww... He's really just a big ol' Norwegian softie! :)

21:42:09 [Ancient_Gamer] Well, you have found the right site Anteaus. There are some pretty impressive and helpful personages around here. I'd note MoonHunter and CaptainPenguin. Cap has a sharp tongue, but he really means well. He is a helluva guy

21:43:06 [Ancient_Gamer] Scrasamax is incredibly talented and has a will and an opinion of his own. He will never pull his punches, but give a fair assessment

21:43:55 [Ancient_Gamer] Kinslayer is also regularily stopping by. He is an independent game developer and has interesting views on much, in addition to a strange sense of humor

How long has it been since I simply let myself ramble on? Too long, say I.

    Ideas for new NPC submissions:

These two ideas came up today as I was working after lunch. They fit into the series of satirical personas for the new D&D signature characters from the core books. I've already taken down Regdar, Mialee and Ember, but who was next, I had nothing.

Anyway there had been a request for Alhanna, the noble half-elf paladin. For a while I played around with the soccer mom idea, which I might use later on someone else. That seemed to fall rather flat, so I looked on. I struck upon an idea that perhaps she has become the victim of the media (such as it is with minstrils and bards being the media) in that her clerical vows actually hide her lesbian lovers, or that like Demi Moore, she has taken on a young and very attractive young student and rumors abound.

Also thought about a borderline maniacal Jozan who has 'benched' by his clerical superiors for getting a little overzealous in smashing of zombies, especially considering that most zombies are known from their predeath days by the locals. (most zombies, i suspect are going to be the local death, rather than the more exotic foreign dead) but that was just an idea, a priest in anger management class. "Remember to try turning the undead first..."

"Then crush their skulls with my mace!"

"eh...we have a lot of work to do, I'm afraid.

    NEXT!

    I hate monkeys
I dislike movies, or commercials with talking babies and Anne Gedes really really freaks me out.
    Ceramic hobos are also creepy.

    *sigh*

    Good Ideas

    Cherry Sprite
    Key Lime Pop-Tarts
    Dark Chocolate M&M's

    Bad Ideas

    Arena Football
    Alternate flavors of Mountain Dew
8oz can for the same price as the 12 oz can

    Books I want!

The Book of Ebony and Bone/Exalted
    Exalted: The Fair Folk

    Movies I want to see

    Electra
    Sin City
    Ring 2
Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (hopeless fanboy)
    Terminator III
    AVP
    Resident Evil III
    A new Godzilla flick
    Girls Gone Wild: Ft. Lauderdale

    10:39:05 Like elves,eh?

10:39:42 I've been thinking about a New Look at Elves..

10:39:55 Or maybe going bigger for a New Look at Fae.

10:40:12 Making them into something like Fair Folk from Exalted...

    10:40:20 The Raha something?

10:40:39 the elves are a ... difficult theme

    10:40:46 demons are fun

10:40:52 * Mourngrymn goes back to work.

10:41:31 Aren't they ever? I plan to create a demon NPC soon.

    10:42:13 not you too!

10:42:31 a funny thing - any of you have seen the Anime "Elfenlied" ?

    10:42:59 Loki_Swiftstrike enters this room

    10:43:02 Nope, I have not.

    10:43:08 Not me,no.

10:43:21 Maggot, I believe you mean Raksha.

10:43:37 But I want to create Elves that are a threat...

    10:43:51 So I did. *blushes*

    10:44:09 Evil like the drow?

10:44:15 just happens that once I wrote an NPC...and guess what - I picked up a new anime on Sunday, and the main character resembles my NPC all too well. I was pissed.

    10:44:28 nope

10:44:30 Somewhere, I read the phrase "Cthulhu Elves", and that, mixed in with me playing Doom 3 lately, has me envisioning elves from beyond the bounds of the world, crawling over the walls, eating souls or whatnot...

    10:44:50 *chuckles*

10:44:51 I could have done without that

10:44:54 Not evil like drow... Beyond good and evil.

    10:45:03 Galadriel want your SOUL!

    10:45:09 Hmm,sounds very promising..

10:46:13 You could even make it such that a brave band of orcs is trying to destroy this menace.

10:46:22 Well, have you ever seen Imps in Doom 3?

10:46:50 They are extremely tall, lanky, thin, and they crawl all over the walls and out of small spaces like insects, leap at you like pouncing leopards...

10:46:53 they could be like changelings, replacing an unborn, feeding off the mother and running off after birth... not exactly killing her, but stealing lots of vitality

    10:47:08 They seem very alien.

10:47:14 and they could require stealing vitality to survive.

10:47:30 Perhaps, as with Raksha, there are different kinds of these Elves..

10:47:37 My Gahol have competion,it seems.

10:47:37 so, keeping pens full of people to dine on.

10:48:05 they could still be stylish and pretty and so, but d-a-n-g-e-r-o-u-s

    10:48:08 Cannibal Elves? Yuck..

10:48:28 not cannibals, they don't eat their own kind

10:48:31 The vast majority are Imp-like elves, barely sentient, crawling all over everything, leaping and pouncing- these are the kind which are born from humans.

    10:48:38 Two classes of elves!

10:48:39 [Loki_Swiftstrike] Well I guess this would be a good note to enter in on, Howdy Ho

    10:48:51 'Lo, Loki.

10:49:15 they even could plant *something* inside people without their knowledge, that leeches their vigor

10:49:15 The upper, ruling class are like Raksha- stylish, pretty, and the most dangerous things ever.

10:49:17 [Loki_Swiftstrike] Nothing more fun then a gang of cannibal elves

    10:49:33 hi loki

10:49:38 The lesser class are the Changelings- animalistic, imp-like, the gibbering hordes and armies of the upper class

10:50:26 they would not have to gibber - perhaps they are deathly silent when not moving, listenoing to asong only they can hear... a song sung by their master.

10:50:47 whoherds and commands them thus.

10:51:00 a human bitten by an elf could begin to hear it too ...

10:51:54 What about other elves? How would they view these baddies?

10:51:57 The Ruling Class keep herds of weird and anemic elf-bred humans with which they feed the Changeling hordes.

10:52:01 Iguess being silent and enigmatic when not moving would befar scarier... you stumble through darkness, touch something - eeeep! it's an elf!

10:52:15 Perhaps they are the only elves!

    10:52:25 * CaptainPenguin chuckles evilly

    10:52:31 Yeah, silent is better.

10:52:48 The Ruling Class would be much different in vibe than the Changelings.

    10:53:19 yup. pompous, glorious, breath-taking, awe-inspiring. right?

10:53:43 Dream-like, beautiful, enigmatic... but conniving, manipulative, malevolent (in a disconnected sort of way), and hungry...

    10:53:47 Noisy,crass and color blind?

10:53:50 radiant, utterly self-confident, almost surreal.

    10:54:02 Boy,was I way off..

    10:54:16 Wait...

10:54:23 eeeel! an elf in neon-green stretch-trousers and a pink fluffy coat? Nah.

    10:54:40 Heh,heh..

10:55:04 Elves wearing black-and-bright-blue zoot suits, escorted by full tuba bands!

10:55:06 They'd not be malevolent, rather... playful, in the sort of "If I rip off your arm, I wonder what will happen..."

    10:55:08

    10:55:25 okay, Capt'n, now you're gross

10:56:07 (of course, the answer'd be: "Bleeds and dies. Duh, can't you humans be MORE original? Geee.")

    10:56:31 Interesting...

10:57:10 "Humans are so boring. I much prefer those squirmy eel-things we get on that dreadful watery land... What's that place called?"

10:57:29 The'd meddle and play psycho games \,and would be very touchy: "You stepped on my treasured carpet, I will rip of your head. Look what you've done! Your stupid blood stained the floor! Now your buddies have to pay for this!"

10:57:29 "Tarrod, I believe." "What a ugly name. They should be more like us."

10:58:11 So, sociopathic. Chauvinist. NO empathy whatsoever.

    10:58:40 Lol.

    10:58:52 Hmm,now that's an idea.

10:59:01 They begin to sound like my Hyrnan.

10:59:02 "Ah! Look what you've done! My favorite crystal banner has one of your filthy mortal fingerprints on it! Changelings, prepare the Chamber of Vast and Innumerable Torments!"

10:59:14 * EchoMirage bangs head against table.

    10:59:24 Hey, that's fine!

10:59:28 It would be fascinating if they abducted a group of Eshal.

    10:59:35 The Hyrnan are great!

10:59:52 You could say that I'm making Hyrnan with my own personal touch.

    11:00:06 * EchoMirage sighs.

11:00:06 They probably wouldn't like the taste- too fishy.

11:00:24 What's the command for seeing the past 100 posts?

11:00:33 so, no rug-munching for them either
  29. Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1

    #269
Interesting discourse. Perhaps these Cthulu elves survive for centuries or longer as lurkers and cannon fodder until they pass throuygh a personal metamorphasis that transmutes them into the ruling class of elves? There could be a set of rituals and procedures to properly torture and stimulate a lesser elf until they 'force evolve' into the more sentient sort. Of course this creates another high elf rival and is done only very rarely.

If there is a fishy taste to your rug, there is something not quite fresh about it. There is a rug cleaner named Massengil Von Douche, he cleans them pretty good.

    Michael Jotne Slayer

We worry about the terrible accidents we're powerless to prevent, and we fear anonymous killers who choose victims at random. We cannot protect ourselves from the venomous animals who slither undetected into the places where we work, play, and shop, nor can we stop the onslaught of insects who invade our homes and our bodies. We're repulsed by the contaminants that may lurk in our food. We're afraid of foreigners and foreign places. We fear for our childrens' safety in a world full of drugs, kidnappers, and poisons. We never know what gruesome discovery may be waiting around the next corner. And even if we somehow escape all of these horrors, our own vanities may do us in.

    *PLOM, klick,klick,klick....

Captain Penguin vanishes in a flash of lightning, and very soon, the very bedrock of Norway shakes as he explodes out of the Earth's crust into Scandinavia, roaring with the primal fury of the first predatorial creature with a voice. His eyes blaze with superheated sun flames, and a blazing crown of light circles his head as he shoots HOLY LASER BEAMS OF DESTRUCTION from his forehead.

He then draws his nine-foot-long daiklave, The Hand of Fate, and proceeds to lay waste to the fortresses of Mike's bananatroops, enslaving all of them while rainbow lightning lashes out of his nostrils and mouth. Then, he speaks the Nine Unholy Prayers of Singular Devastation, utterly shattering Norway forever.

Then, he flies into the icy blackness of space at hyperlightspeed, zapping towards the nearest galaxy...
