I think they went a little overboard with the whole Hindu theme they were rolling with.
It's visually stunning, quite interesting ideas some of them, but some of it is just like... That's idiotic and silly.

On one hand I can understand them using Raksha and Rakshastan over fae, fair folk and faerie since that generally evokes Lucky the Leprechaun and the Keebler elves. But, the Hindu aspect is certainly over wrought. I particularly like the visuals, kind of like a pulp fantasy, borderline over the top gaming in the wyld. But when it comes to actually making one of these characters it gets damned ugly.

I mean all of the white-wolf books get big into the whole it's just a bunch of dots on a sheet unless you put something into it, but when I tried making a character it seemed that the opposite happened. Trying to break a cool character idea down into Virtues, heart charms, and shaping powers seemed to drain everything away from the critter, leaving just a page of dots.

The entire shaping charm system seems as convoluted and byzantine as the Sidereal Charm trees and astrology, but it is undermined by the fact that the seemingly chaos bent raksha seem to be more firmly rooted in patterns of reality than in the chaos of the Wyld. For just an entertaining read, the book is good, but It's difficult if you want to squeeze a character out of it.

BTW, Flashchat freezes up my computer, but I should be getting a new one in a month or so, after we get our tax refund. I'll be glad to see the six year old I'm using now go away.

*Ancient Gamer peeks out of his place of hiding*

The frothing penguins suddenly halted their movement. The call of their Dark-Lord was not as permeating anymore, and the horde of diminutive horrors quit chewing on the legs of the terrified Strolenites.

Soon praises of joy and gospels of faith was spreading through the Citadel.

    :p

Oh my! The new theme is pleasing to the eye, nice to behold, lots of other similar expressions and ... anti-nostalgic. I like nostalgia... To hate the new theme, or to love it... That is the question.

Did you see that edit icon (pencil on paper) on the bottom right above the IP/report to mod link. Inline editing, very interesting.

Might have to figure out this thing they call AJAX.

SIX HUNDRED AND SIXTY-SIX, WHICH IS THE NUMBER WHICH IS CALLED THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST
  15. Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1

    #655
"And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." Revelation 13:16-18

  37. Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1

    #677
No, you need a high pressure stream for that. More a focused stream, almost like a laser.
  38. Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1

    #678
Pfft, why have laser when you can have gauss rifles?

    Magnetism, the other white meat
  39. Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1

    #679
*fires a gauss rifle through Roack's chest*
  40. Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1

    #680
"Which would you prefer, a non-existant laser weapon, or a well-aimed rock?"

Yes, guass rifles are nice, but napalm is so much more effective...
