Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#81indeed, a small blotch labeled, "Arms & Antlers" is on the map. -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#82Alas, no good fits Echo. Made for/by burly human types. Mystic can, if asked nicely (I suppose :P) or explained the value of a suit of plate mail on the open market (see PHB), would be the only one who can realistically "bring a suit along".
Dozus, let's discuss stoat familiar...
For example, with it in tow, you now technically cast spells as a magic-user 1 level higher (ftw!) -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#83I could probably strap a suit of it to Lucky's back, but I doubt Lady Wolf would be keen on carrying around 80lbs of plate metal, noise aside.
Also are we dealing with encumbrance values? I.E Walking any great distance in full plate in a temperate climate is likely to tire most anyone after a few hours. (hence why most knights rode on horse back.)
-
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#84Sil, don't start :D
I'm here for the Dungeons and Dragons, not for Burdens and Bookkeeping.
I think it's enough if Muro says "you can/can't wear/carry that. -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#85I'm with Echo on this, please don't make us track encumbrance, I am completely happy with "if it sounds like an appropriate amount of things to stuff in a backpack that's fine, carting around 10 suits of plate mail on your shoulders, not so much."
(Also, no, I will not be willing to cart armor suits on my back, I'm a Dire Wolf, not a draft horse :p)
Having seen the number of items Jenny chose for her equipment list, and her lack of listing weight next to them, I assume she was asking so she'd know if she had to go back through and figure out if she could actually carry everything she purchased or would have to divide it up between her rucksack and my saddle bags. Having people Do that now while the lists are at hand so to speak is no doubt much easier then waiting until weeks down the road. -

I assume she was asking so she'd know if she had to go back through and figure out if she could actually carry everything she purchased or would have to divide it up between her rucksack and my saddle bags.
Aye more or less, especially once we start gathering treasure and such, also I was pondering getting a set of horse style barding for Lucky sometime in the near future, (Likely in leather since chain would be impractical for a Dire Wolf not to mention noisy.) but not if weight is a huge issue.
Personally if we're voting on it, I'd just as soon skip the book work of tracking all the weight, it's more hassle than it's worth, and in most parties with encumbrance being tracked, the mountain of muscle (in this case Mystic) often turns into the pack mule for the party members with lower strength adding further to the headache of who's gear is on whom..
Edit:
Also I assume we got paid some portion of coin in advance for the escort mission? Just curious how much that was so we have an accurate idea of our current riches, (or lack there of) since it's extra coin above the starting funds we used to equip our characters. (And might give Dozus enough to cast his summon familiar spell without bankrupting the party :P ) -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#87Hey. I am slightly confused: there were two ladies, Kefka and Karkayla? Or no?
Which one is dead? And what happened to the other one? -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#88"some kind of pale, mousy woman dressed in furs of ermine."
Pretty sure that was her. I seem to have neglected looting the furs. Ah well.
-
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#89Ahem, sorry. Site wasn't loading for me. Just saw all this now...
Encumbrance? Isn't it bad enough I'm keeping track of how many arrows you've lost? Lol
I don't know who Lady Kefka is, there was only the Lady Karkayla :)
Also, nope, you did not receive any coin up front. The Citadel Escort Company only gets paid after a successful mission :). Karkayla was going to pay you once you got her to her castle, Coldmoat, successfully.
By the way there is also a Blackton on the map. Medium-sized town where you began escorting her from...

Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#90Map facts:
It seems that north of where you are there are towns and cities and such. South of where you are there seems to be a lot of marked keeps and castles, such as Coldmoat, for example. The Sluggard crisscrosses the entire map east to west. The map ends to the far south with a giant area labeled Soulmarsh Vast. To the far west on the map, there seems to be a huge sea.
Sorry, wish I could draw :P -

Hey. I am slightly confused: there were two ladies, Kefka and Karkayla? Or no?
Which one is dead? And what happened to the other one?
I'm pretty sure "Lady Kefka" was an accidental alternate name for Lady Karkayla. Someone (likely me) misremembered her name being Lady Kefka and it then stuck. (At least it was Lady Kerrigan :P ) -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#92The Mighty Sermulis...
Half-ad&d, half home-brew version:
1. With the familiar in tow, Dozus is for all intents and purposes now a 2nd level magic-user! So two 1st level spells per day can be memorized, cast at the 2nd level of ability for purposes of range, damage, etc
2. Dozus gets 8 permanent "phantom" hit points, basically adding the stoat's total to his own.
3. Dozus makes all saving throw rolls at +2 on the die.
4. Dozus can cast "touch-based" spells via the stoat!
5. Sermulis has an AC of 2 (quick bugger!) 2HD (sturdy ferret!) and 8 hit points. It makes its attack rolls however as a 4 HD creature. It also makes all saving throws as a 4 HD creature. Bite damage 0-2.
6. If the stoat bites it, Dozus automatically loses 16 hit points, twice the stoats total. This will most likely cause Dozus instantaneous death, for a few more levels anyway.
Also, welcome Tusserk. What a great name for a monk!

Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#93Today, memorizing Charm Person and Shield. We'll play defense for a while. -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#94Memorizing the same stuff as I had. -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#95As a cleric, you need not memorize anything. Can mix and match every day as desired. It's only the magic-users that get constantly screwed. :) -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#96So I don't have to choose which spell from the selection I want to cast?
Now this is cool.
Didn't know 1st Ed clerics didn't use Vancian spellcasting. -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#97Another question: how does Turn Undead work? And Rebuke? Which one do I get?http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/turn_undead_7232.png

Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#98You can Turn Undead. I will find the table for you to peruse which will answer all questions as soon as I find it!! -

Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#102Clerics and paladins can turn undead, causing them to flee
or even turning them to dust by the power of religious faith.
An evil cleric can also turn a paladin, but cannot destroy the
paladin by turning. Evil clerics may choose to control the undead
instead of turning them. If an evil cleric gains a result of
“D” on the table, the undead creature falls under the cleric’s
control for 24 hours. Normally 2d6 creatures are affected by
Turn Undead. Exceptions are paladins and Type 13 creatures,
of which only 1d2 are affected, and results of “D”, which affect
1d6+6 creatures.
Turning lasts for 3d4 rounds. While turned, the creature must
move away from the cleric at its fastest possible movement
rate. It will attack a creature that is directly blocking its escape
route, but otherwise may not fight.
The cleric or paladin must be holding his or her holy symbol
to make a turning attempt. In most cases this will preclude
attacking on the same round, and the cleric must sheathe or
drop his or her weapon (or else set down his or her shield).
To turn undead, roll a d20 on the Turning Undead Table. If
the result is equal to or higher than the number shown, the
attempt is successful.
Level Cleric 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9-13 14-18 19+
Type 1 Skeleton 10 7 4 T T D D D D D D
Type 2 Zombie 13 10 7 T T D D D D D D
Type 3 Ghoul 16 13 10 4 T T D D D D D
Type 4 Shadow 19 16 13 7 4 T T D D D D
Type 5 Wight 20 19 16 10 7 4 T T D D D
Type 6 Ghast - 20 19 13 10 7 4 T T D D
Type 7 Wraith - - 20 16 13 10 7 4 T T D
Type 8 Mummy - - - 19 13 13 10 7 4 T D
Type 9 Spectre - - - 20 19 16 13 10 7 T T
Type 10 Vampire - - - - 20 19 16 13 10 7 4
Type 11 Ghost - - - - - 20 19 16 13 10 7
Type 12 Lich - - - - - - 20 19 16 13 10
Type 13 Fiend - - - - - - - 20 19 16 13
For the purposes of evil clerics turning paladins, paladins are treated as Type 8 if they are level
1-2, Type 9 if level 3-4, Type 10 if level 5-6, Type 11 if level 7-8, Type 12 if level 9-10 and
Type 13 if level 11 or higher. However, paladins cannot be destroyed by turning.
If the number on the die is equal to or greater than the number shown on the table, the creature is
turned and will flee. If the table indicates “T”, the undead creature is automatically turned, and
will flee.
It the table indicates “D”, the undead creature is automatically destroyed and will crumble to
dust.
For evil clerics, a result of “D” indicates that the undead are forced into the cleric’s command
for a period of 24 hours.

Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#103Based on Echo's successful turning (4 out of 6), you can add 4 Reeve's Men to your defeated/killed list.
4 Reeve's Men...290 XP each. -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#104This would be a good time to mention...
All gold found (and items of value and such) translate to 1/2 their value for XP purposes.
10 gp= 5 Xp etc...
Val is almost 2nd level :P
-
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#105Can we get an updated total xp count please ? I'm not sure how much xp we've earned so far between the looting and action at the inn on top of the 1160 we earned for the undead horsemen. -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#106Hey, by the way, forgot to roll for the duration of the turning:
(13:08:21) Minion: EchoMirage rolls 3d4 and gets 4,4,1.
(13:08:25) EchoMirage: 9 rounds!
The turned buggers move away at top speed, watch at them go :)
And if any of their own guys block a path, they'll get attacked too.
Turning in 1st edition is pretty hardcore. -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#107I have a question...
My Monk knows how to use a spear and his bare hands. I know how to use a MUCH wider array of weaponry such as, knives, swords, axes, shields, spear, rifles, pistols, so on and so forth.
In combat which one takes over or has a higher influence? Does the Monk's knowledge make me fumble with a sword during combat or does my training in boxing over ride the more oriental style martial arts of the monk? -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#108Use the character's stats, I'd say. -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#109
Agree. Some measure of physical skill comes from muscle memory; putting your thoughts/minds (I assume not actual brains) into another body would probably not transfer over those neurologic pathways.
Use the character's stats, I'd say.
-
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#110Fascinating question...I tend to agree with the fellas. However, I suppose, if let's say you found a hand-gun, I would imagine your monk would have an easier time of it, learning to shoot well, since you possess the mental acuity for it as a player...I think.
Will count up xp today!
Will post in to tonight. So you're all running for the trees. Eh? -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#111I'd be careful in losing too much of what we had, otherwise much of what makes this 'special' disappears... That said, its hard to translate our real-world expertise in
And personally, I believe the 'muscle-memory' still resides in the brain, just not the conscious portion. I would expect some training to 'zero-in' the new body would be needed, but years of training would not be lost.
-
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#112Which answer keeps us alive longer? :P
I find the mind vs physical brain question to be an intriguing one just in general (and there's some of that going on in the way I'm playing Mystic). I don't expect you can be too literal with it, though, because if the character brain wasn't in some way imprinted with our "real" selves, then we wouldn't have our own thought patterns, memories, etc.
From a purely practical standpoint, I'd say Muro makes a ruling and then we can come up with whatever explanation makes the most sense. Maybe the muscle memory (which, I believe val is correct, lies mostly in the brain) is partially overwritten with our own, so that we maintain the character's skills but only a shadow of our own. Move that one way or the other on the continuum and you have us retaining more of our own with less acquired by the character vs little of our own and most of that from the character.
My 2c would be to say that we don't really retain our own physical skills, but that we could more easily acquire them. Tuss's monk may not have the muscle memory in place anymore to thoughtlessly hold and fire a handgun with accuracy, but he probably does remember all the key points (how the hands are placed, how to position the arms, the proper way to sight down the barrel, etc) and so would be able to, basically, teach himself with some practice. I would liken this to someone relearning to walk after a stroke. -

#116My padding is starting to moisten."
You said moisten :cthulhu: -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#117That's the word you use when something is beyond damp but not wet yet, no?
English is my 4th language :poet: what did I do wrong? -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#118You used it in the correct context... but my mind immediately hit the gutter, in America it is also sometimes used to refer to what happens when a female becomes aroused. Needless to say, moist sets most bos (and guys who have retained their school boy mentality) to giggling. -
Re: Guardians of the Citadel OOC
#119I used it in the context of girl-Echo watching a barbarian exercise?
Suits me right, have your giggles :D -
