    I'm looking forward to it.

For this coming week, let's go with Squid.

Food, animals, kaiju, strangely-shaped spacecraft, odd humanoids, and elder gods are all welcome.  :cthulhu:

Next up, let's try heraldry. Could there be magic to this art? Space heraldry? A special group of heralds?

Hmm. I missed last week. But now, the new one is Automobile. Motor races, intelligent cars, vehicles with fantastic abilities a la Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang, you name it.
  6. Re: Freetext Friday

    #246
Hey, I actually did one this past week.

Next up, though, is Seamonster. Loch Ness monster, Kraken, Leviathan, you name it. Sea monsters are a classic, and they deserve a week as our freetext.

There's a fungus among us! Killer mushrooms, elder gods, and those toads from Super Mario Bros are all fair game.

What's Love got to do with it? Well, it's this week's freetext!
  9. Re: Freetext Friday

Strolenites have made great mountains, created creatures that live at the bottom of the ocean. We have invented spaceships capable of moving between galaxies, developed weapons deadlier than the atomic bomb, made magnificent posts in every field of human endeavor... except crime!

Well, okay, Cheka has a pretty good one, but I couldn't resist.

    You know the deal.

For this coming week, let me propose Elemental. And by propose, I mean unilaterally declare.

Elementals. Fire, water, earth, air. You could go with one of the classics or come up with something new and exciting. How about Heart Elementals? Strange conjurers? The cities where elementals live?

Tick-tock goes the Clock. That's he freetext this week: clock. From big clock towers to decaying atoms, and from magical pillars to super high-tach robotic cuckoo clocks, I want your timepieces, the people who manage them, and so forth.

Hi-ho, Silver! Onward, Rosinante! Run, Secretariat! This week, the word is Horse. Mighty steeds, gentle palfreys, and rapid racing horses are all fair game. Maybe mechanical horses? Ranches? Werehorses?
  13. Re: Freetext Friday

    Spear. Poke, poke. Poke, poke.
  14. Re: Freetext Friday

Know, oh prince, that this week, the freetext shall be Barbarian. People of strange cultures, of gigantic mirths and gigantic melancholies, who aim to tread the cultured cities of the world beneath their sandaled feet.

Let's do Spy next. Those who seek to gain information not rightfully there's, whether in international or industrial espionage, or perhaps some other field.

Tower is the new one. This one seems to me like it's got to be places, but let's see what we can get.
  17. Re: Freetext Friday

    #257
Our new freetext is food. I am most interested in strange dishes to show off an exotic culture, but you can of course do anything relating to food.

Apparently, Cheerleader is a freetext, so let's try that one. Horror movie victims, celebrities, monster-hunters... you name it, cheerleaders do a little bit of everything.

I seem to be having a hard time hitting Friday lately. In any event, this week, we'll be doing FTL. Give me your faster than light drives!

What if I wanna do For The Lulz, instead?
  21. Re: Freetext Friday

    #261
Next up is Prostitute. You've got your classic prostitutes and your hookers with hearts of gold, but I'm thinking there are more places to go with these people.

    Sharks! Sharks everywhere! Aaah!

Hopefully, anyway. Unleash the sharks this week. Were-sharks. Alien sharks. Shark-human mutants. A special breed of sharks whose teeth are used for swords. The god of sharks. Sharks... In... SPAAAACE!

I'd prefer to stick with literal meanings rather than puns, but I'm hardly the boss of freetexts.

I do get to pick what's next, though, and I choose Gladiator.

cup is next. Whether it be the Holy Grail or a goblet made from the King of Elfland's skull, there is a lot of room for cups.

    Pokemon

How about some new pokemon, or perhaps an adaptation of the Pokemon world? What might Pokemon have become in a sci-fi world? Maybe Pikachu body-mods? Warships named after these mythical monsters of the ancient past (the USS Gyarados)?
  27. Re: Freetext Friday

    #267
Let's do Gangster. Thugs, gamblers, hit men. Maybe 30 gangsters for a Cthulhu game. A mob boss. The Halfling Syndicate.

This week, we will be doing 100 Word Challenge. Do your sub in only 100 words! I'm not sure if the summary counts.
  29. Re: Freetext Friday

    #269
I've always done it with the summary not counting.

I will get right to commenting on those. But first, let me announce the new freetext: Belt. Maybe it's a magic belt that gives you giant strength, a girdle that ostensibly grants invulnerability, a power belt that lets you use your super powers, an awarded belt to show that you're the best, or an ordinary belt that just holds up your pants. But you know... belts are a big deal.

Two in a row! Well done!

Voting is next. The one example with this freetext is sort of a meta thing about voting on citadel submissions, but I'm thinking a bit more in terms of fantasy democracy. Maybe some fantastic voting practices?
  34. Re: Freetext Friday

    #274
Gonna try and make it three in  row. Iv'e got an idea percolating............
  35. Re: Freetext Friday

    #275
    Please no meta-subs. Pretty please....

I don't understand Val? But sure
OH you mean no REPUBLICAN crap? No prob,PURE fantasy

I meant no subs about voting on subs. Yes, I wrote one before.

You know, I liked that 5 Room Dungeon quest a few years back. Let's do some more of those.

For those not familiar with the concept, the 5 Room Dungeon is a mini dungeon or plot in five stages:

    1. Getting In
    2. The Roleplaying Challenge
    3. A Trap or Guardian
    4. A Climactic Showdown
    5. Wrapping Things Up / Rewards / A Final Twist

There's a better article on it around here somewhere.

Westerns are cool, right? Let's do Cowboy (cowgirls are fine, too).

Savage Coast -style fantasy cowboys and Bravestar -style futuristic cowboys are of course cool.
