Re: Admin Chatter
#201Perhaps I can put this more succinctly...
Pretend you don't like shoes as much as you really do and view it from our point of view. You know how serious we take this unserious fantasy world of ours and how harsh we can be on those that don't conform to our higher standards for submissions. Now imagine that somebody just posted a picture of a present time fancy high top in our beloved, carefully cultured environment.
It sticks out like a sore thumb and rubs us wrong.
Now, picture a very prominent member of the Citadel, and an Admin, posting a picture of a shoe in one of his posts because he thinks these pair of sneakers are "HOTTTT." Now some of our other more immature ( I won't say young ) see this and think, "Hey, I think this (insert name brand) shirt is HOTTTT." and make up some stupid story to justify it. Now we have people posting catalog pictures out of ( brand name ) online catalogues and such. Go ahead and guffaw, but that is the message I am seeing by you putting up an actual picture of those silly ass shoes.

Re: Admin Chatter
#202Fine.
I'll take it down.
But I'm ****ing unhappy about it! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#203Awfully sorry CP. You are an amazing storywright and all, but this I just do not like. It is not your post in particular, rather the example you set. How can we turn down future crap if you have set the standard already?
And you other admins: How do you feel about this? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#204I never saw the original sub, so I have no actual facts, and thus am not qualified to make a judgement call. I understand putting up a picture, particularly if it's a picture that inspired the sub, but I can also see idiots taking putting a picture of an actual product up as permission to spam the Citadel, with illustrations. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#205The picture in question was this: [img width=400 height=300]http://www.strolen.com/art/albums/userpics/10145/These_Shoes_Are_Hot.jpg
It might be me being a post-nazi, but I geniunely feared that such posts would become a trend. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#206He had deleted it before I saw it too.
If it was a magic high tops of game (increasing basket ball skill or skating skill) post, then the image might fly. But unless it was an urban fantasy post, was it really a good image?
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#207The reason it bothered me so much is that I was totally serious about that.
It was not a joke post. I did not put up the picture just to put up the picture of cool shoes. It was an urban fantasy item inspired by hi-top shoes (basic idea is that they were shoes for thieves with special gum-wood soles, yadda yadda yadda).
But whatever. No use staying all salty about it. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#208Is it the code, or is the host unstable?
I get these a dozen times a day...

Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?

Re: Admin Chatter
#209I will do some playing with it. Everytime you get those messages I get an email. I have a final today so haven't been able to look at it too deep lately. Probably has something to do with the settings I changed.
Appreciate you mentioning though!! Always good to get a reminder! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#210Tried some stuff. So far so good but Sundays are usually pretty relaxed.
ps. anybody notice that I got www.readpostplay.com right after we solidified that saying.
Wanted to nab it before somebody else did. Don't know what to do with it but it is too good to resist. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#211What do you know? 27000+ views on this here plot: http://www.strolen.com/content.php?node=2322
That is insane!
Anyone got a reason why this particular sub got THAT many views? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#212WOW.
I banned a bot a couple days ago that had rumors of getting stuck on a page. Maybe that is what happened. Would have to check the log files and see if they show something like that. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#213You know, a couple of the scrolls and codexes have a huge score that seems out of line with their popularity. Could that of happened before and the spiders were nuked by their own end? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#214Very well could of. I will do a manual edit of those insane numbers to make them more realistic. Serves no purpose being that out of proportion.
--- aside
Just put together a new computer as my old one was, well old. Now I got a 64bit monster and I come to find that Opera doesn't support 64 yet...ahhhhh. Just gotta figure out how to force a 32.
Anyway, almost back together now, linux is up and running, an hour and I will have my php editors and will start again messing with this stuff again.
Also, going on vacation the 9-20 or so of this month and probably won't have any internet during that time just to let you know. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#215The first batch of T-shirts will now be made. So far the winning design is:
Sepia colored T, small Strolen.com lettering in red on breast pocket, and small, gray strolen dragon logo (very small and tasteful) on the upper back of the tee.
The 2 Quest winners, will get similar long-sleeved t's, with additional small red lettering along the arm..."my dungeon is better than yours" -
Re: Admin Chatter
#216my dungeon is better than yours
:)
I like that!
Not a fan of long sleeve T's myself, but the whole thing sounds great! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#217Can we get a picture? Can we? Can we? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#218*Ancient Gamer is preparing to kill for a dungeon-T* -
Re: Admin Chatter
#219still slays me.
my dungeon is better than your dungeon
Don't know why?!?!?!111oneonewon11!! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#220I redirected T-Bone and Chuckanator to the inane natter area. Let us see if they are willing to listen, or if I must use the sledge hammer. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#221*nod* -
Re: Admin Chatter
#222Last night I asked Alec Shadowkin and Pariah, as to DL's recent chatroom behavior. They both were quite animated in stating that his demeanor has worsened. For example, he wished DEATH upon them in his latest salvo.
I told P and Alec, that I would throw out their concerns, and "perma-ban votes" in admin chat. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#223I have written a pm to DL and demanded an apology to be directed towards Alec. I did not know there were more casualties. I have given DL 2 days and asked Alec to let me know whether any apology was forthcoming. I also demanded absolutely no more bad behaviour.
Knowing DL that apology probably won't be forthcoming. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#224At one point, back when DL and Kal still RPed in the freeform and for a while after I felt that DL was our litmus test for what we were willing to tolerate here in the Citadel. Now, DL no longer produces anything even in the freeform, and his only comments have been to my subs demanding that they be deleted. This is a great annoyance, but stacked with his constantly disruptive behavior, I no longer think he has a place here. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#225Now, I am officialy fed up with all the broken special characters left and right.
Will they be fixed anytime soon? Is there a plan?
Worst case, do we have the means to search for them all, and replace them (really worst case) manually? I am really starting to hate them. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#226I have killed some of the special characters on my own subs. They are an open wound on the face of this site and I loathe them as much as you do manfred. However Strolen is gone for quite some time and until then we gotta hold our breath in anticipation ;) -
Re: Admin Chatter
#227Annoyance here and annoyance there... let's just suffer through it.
For the record, users T-Bone, Chuckanator and Catalyst seem to share an IP address now and then. I don't think they are really one person (would be a really sad case of split personality), but they are apparently in one pretty group of um... annoyances. Catalyst seems to be the most harmless so far, the other two...
Something to remember for the black book. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#228T-Bone is Catalyst's Son, and I assume that Chuckanator is a friend -
Re: Admin Chatter
#229Oh! Now that explains some things. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#230Ah.
Mysteries unfolded... -
Re: Admin Chatter
#231I am officially annoyed with Chuckanator. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#232Yeah, and I am annoyed with the Free Word Association Thread, Dark-Lord, and root beer. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#233Dark-Lord was banned a few days ago by Strolen. Strolen was unsure whether the ban would be effective as he entered it straight into the database. I think I saw Dark-Lord online a few days ago, but he didn't do anything so he is probably unable to do anything.
Free word association is in inane natter so it should not pose any problem, save that it might consume too much storage space in the long run.
Root beer is an evil which I cannot fight on my own! Unite brethren and let us conquer the evils of Root beer! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#234I have been annoyed with natter threads since... well almost forever. That is why in the old forum certain sections did not count as posts... and natter was one of them.
The free association games are used by people who want to improve their statistics in the chat. Sigh. Do they not realize that does not work here?
Rootbeer is not evil. Cheap rootbear is evil. Water plus carmel coloring plus sugar really. Now, fine, well crafted, full bodied Rootbeers are wonderous. Life is too short to drink cheap rootbear or play with bad gamers.
Now for some of you these good rootbears can be a problem to find. For all its scary urban elements, it is really nice to live in an area where I can casually get microbrewed rootbeers (and other sodas) for a nominal bit more than national brands.
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#235Heh. Personally I post in the free association thread because I like it. I stopped caring about stats years and years ago. I doubt CP cares much about it either. Nor Murometz.
Perhaps some of the kiddos care. Their problem. ;) -
Re: Admin Chatter
#236re: Free Association...what AG said
Also, DL is a pain, Rootbeer is tasty (agree with Moon on quality of said root beer), Chukanator is quite annoying, T-Bone is harmless, Catalyst is fun -
Re: Admin Chatter
#237Blech, rootbeer. I say it be stamped out like a heresy. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#238Okay. I have warned Chuckanator per pm and in the forums. I have not mentioned any consequences. What do you guys think we should do if he continues this behaviour? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#239Splitting threads and moving them into the Cavern is a good start. Later... we have other means, too. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#240kinda like the ellipse posts from an obscure thread on This is How you Level Up or some nonsense like that from the old forum.
enthusiasm is a potent force, one that Chucky seems to have in spades. Now, of directed and focused, this can become a powerful creative force, and if it cannot be focused, is generally wanders off after a bit.
