Re: Admin Chatter
#121
I have been stalling on the deleting of the old forums for some reason.... :)
I do understand. :) Hard to get rid of that past. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#122Anybody deleting comments lately? I am noticing things missing where I *swear* I saw a comment earlier. Manfred mentioned the latest ones he did....anybody else? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#123Yeah, I've noticed that, too, but not much -
Re: Admin Chatter
#124'fraid not. Not been around much lately to be honest. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#125I would like to ask, why my comment on Cloister of the Empty Table was deleted?? It was a reply to Manfreds comment and questions. And I gotta say I'm a little annoyed. If it was the "Kate Moss-coke binge" line...ok....but that was just one line, and the comment was a paragraph long.
Also had two other commnets vanish on another sub (non-controversial comments)...whats up with that?
:( -
Re: Admin Chatter
#126Hmmm... then the question is, if the comments are not lost somewhere. Stroleeeeen... -
Re: Admin Chatter
#127Don't even. :)
Going to change the comment deletion to require two people and not permanently delete them. Then I can stop wondering (if they do disappear, it is a bug) and if issues come up then we have strong legs to stand on as I can reinstate them or reveal them for another consideration. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#128will it pop up like the Challenged Submission thing? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#129Yep. Will fix up the challenged submission thing at the same time as that process isn't as streamlined as it could be. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#130Moved the 'Has anyone heard about ''the World"a mmorpg.' thread into the Citadel Tavern from the News and Announcements. Sent a PM to the author, Slayer about the transfer. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#131For the under-educated among us... how does a comment recieve several IPs?
(I'm referring to Barbarian Horde posts in http://www.strolen.com/content.php?node=2525 ) -
Re: Admin Chatter
#132Just erased another BH beauty..."your site sucks like poop" -

To get an IP like that they gotta spoof. I also learnt how 10.x.x.x addresses might come on the net (beside through spoofing). Sometimes a router only offers one way NAT and do not translate back. That results in a client with a supposedly restricted IP (like the 10.x.x.x range and the 192.168.x.x range).
But this gotta be spoofing of some kind -
Re: Admin Chatter

I've got to make a bit of a scene now, it has been common knowledge among admins that we can see other peoples in work/hidden areas. While it doesnt bother me too much that these areas can be viewed I think it is bad taste for someone to actually comment on a submission that is still in the Hidden area.
If a submission is in the hidden area that means it isnt ready for people to be viewing and commenting on it, admin or otherwise.
This issue should be fixed now. Nobody but the author (check this would ya ;) ) should be able to see their privates. And they won't show up by putting in the ID either. There shouldn't be any way they would be visible now...I am pretty sure anyway.
For now you may still get the email when private is put in, but it won't be viewable by anybody.
I will fix the email thing when I rewrite the moving of that stuff into the "Normal" submission type so there is a "new" announcement and updated post date even though it might have been being working on for a year. -

I sense the hand of MoonHunter...
...has anyone noticed? In the V2.0 Workshop, the Myths, Articles and Idea Scroll categories are already cleaned up - obviously were the hard-to-transfer threads moved into the Catacombs, and made thus visible again for our users.
Has the time finally come to delete them? To say goodbye to a part of the old Citadel, and embrace the new one?
Actually those threads need to be moved to the Catacombs where they belong. I thought I would just dig through them and post them up... but people complained about things... then I got interested in other projects... so all of those thread need to moved into the catacombs because they are not being used as immediate fodder.
But....
I just don't want to do it. I am tired of doing the data moving. There is a lot of good stuff still there. Some of it may someday be converted to submissions. But I REALLY don't want to move them all. Someone else should move them. Or if strolen could magically make them appear into the catacombs....

Re: Admin Chatter
#136That is where they all did end up. I felt they were just wasting away in the hidden area so I cleaned those forums and moved all the threads to the catacombs.
Those threads are just find sitting there for eternity. At least people can read them now if they stumble upon them so no biggie as far as I am concerned. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#137Check out the announcements. Posting this so I make sure you get an email saying there is a reply and you come here IMMEDIATELY. :) -
Re: Admin Chatter
#138Awesome Strolen!! (pics for subs). Thanks for being you!! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#139Now I understand why manfred suddenly semi-disappeared from the site... Work is hectic guys! (and gals)
To y'all: I have not forgotten any of the commitments I have made. I am just swamped. Please bear with me ;) -
Re: Admin Chatter
#140We understand completely, AG~! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#141I may be more silent than usual, but I am still here.
And yes, there are a bit more balls to juggle at the moment than usual. I still keep record of what is happening though. It only gets slower to get to each of them. Don't you worry. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#142But at last, I can get rid of at least one task: the Little Generator Page, a final home for my little scripto-mechanical creations.
Comments and criticisms welcome. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#143Don't ever let go of your balls manfred!!
and YEAH to the website!!!! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#144Not sure if this is a worthwhile conversation starter or not, but I thought I'd point it out.
If one clicks on any given Citadellian, and then clicks on that Citadellian's "view all comments", votes that Citadellian tallied are plain for all to see. Not sure how anonymous that makes the new system.
On a different note. I Will be away for 5 days in Vermont (no i-net unfortunately). I wish all statesiders a safe and happy Memorial Day Weekend! and all Europeans a safe and happy regular weekend!
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#145Thanks Muro! I added it to my improvement list and I will take care of that this weekend. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#146Moon made a good point in HOH the Bizarre Lifeform Challenge when somebody else HOH'd the new barnacle submission.
After I redo the permissions to allow all to use the gallery (it was a cross permission thing with how smf handles it's permissions and what the gallery was looking for. It will require me to go through everybody and hand change the permissions...unless I can find an automation..anyway)
1) Share credit between people. I plan on making that unlimited amount of people can share the credit for the submission but only one person will be able to edit/update it and control whose name goes on it.
2) ** Codices -- Should the XP / HOH points be shared with all the submissions under a King Codex? Manfred's lifeform, you HOH that, it is usually because of everything under as well so would it make sense to give every submission under it the same XP that manfred gets? I think so. Wouldn't be too hard to do either.
Same with scrolls. All those that have submitted scrolls should share in the reward that the main post gets I think.
Do I hear an Aye?
Just want a few to validate the idea before I act on it. -

Today at 14:46:00 Mourngrymn - Could we hope and pray that you would use it on yourself?
Today at 14:49:59 Scrasamax - i know how to make napalm

#150Check out the IPs in the votes/comments
http://www.strolen.com/content.php?node=2667
I going to have to take care of that.
Mourn caught it. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#151would it be bad form to call him on it in the comments section? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#152Hehe, the same user or the same group posting from the same computer.
I talked to tech guy about the reserved address range (10.x.x.x). He said there were two probable explanations: 1-Spoofed IP and 2-NAT router that does not translate out (just in). -
Re: Admin Chatter
#153Aye to the sharing of credits. Good idea that.
As a side note: science fiction lives again! Not that it ever died here! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#154Ya know, it wouldn't really be that hard to make a SF side of the site.....
It would, really, only take one tick box in the submission type. Fantasy or SF.
Still use ALL the same base code, same site, just one tick box.
Submissions could also, depending on their nature, be put in both SF and Fantasy or just one of them. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#155
would it be bad form to call him on it in the comments section?
I wrote him a PM explaining how painfully obvious it was and that, if he wants to continue to be a member here, he needs to choose a name and go back and delete all of comments/votes made by himself under other names.
I don't want to call him out in public necessarily. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#156I would like to see a Sci-Fi side of the Citadel, there are a few gearheads lurking behind the swords and sorcery. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#157Aye to the shared credit thing, aye to the sci-fi thing. Do you think there would be enough interest to add in multiple genres, in addition? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#158Multiple genres.
If I do the SF thing then I would redo the design to be more modular so that, once done, you could have infinite genres just as we have the ability for infinite catagories. It would clean up the code and make updating easier anyway. So once the SF is up, if there is enough interest in horror or super heroes or whatever, then it would be a quick fix to get those working.
Right now the priority toss up is between V3.0 Settings and this genre modification. Both of them are about the same in difficulty and both would drive the version to 3.0. The Genre change is easy to pull off as mentioned, but it still takes a lot of code modification to modulize it. Concept is simple though. The Settings main holdback is that I don't have a solid format/ideal to work towards.
So, when it comes down to it, if I am ready to do code and Settings isn't ironed out, I will simply do the genre thing.
Did you see the new smilies? :bat: :woot:   :dunno: :puke: If you got more you want, just shoot me a PM with a link.
