The insanity had to stop somewhere.
  2. Re: Admin Chatter

I don't understand how Matan Thunder keeps missing the point, though.
  3. Re: Admin Chatter

    #83
He's not missing it. He, for some unfathomable reason, doesnt care that stats are frowned upon, he'll just keep on posting them because he loves them.   Stubborn, as Strolen mentioned.
  4. Re: Admin Chatter

    #84
But I don't think he's even getting the point that if he wants to use the stats, we don't mind all that much as long as it's not instead of what we ask for.
And he keeps saying that he's trying to post something useful for everyone, and that's why he does the stats, and I know at least three people have said that the stats are worse than useless for them.
  5. Re: Admin Chatter

    #85
If his biggest sin is that he continually uses stats, so long as he supplies ample story and detail to back them up, I dont think they should be held against him, IE stop harassing him about using stats. He has stated that he is going to use them and if we dont like it he will leave. I dont think that is the message we want to get across.

Let the posts stand as they are, if stats are an eyesore just look over them, dont read them. I read through the heavy magic thing he did and pretty much just took in the story and tossed the stats. I didnt particularly care what Matan Magic Self lv. 9 spell was but it has a comfortable d&d ring to it so I just let it slide. No one in any of my games has gotten around to slinging a single maximum level spell, let alone the numbers that Matan does in the post.

    Blegh, nevermind.
  6. Re: Admin Chatter

    #86
If stats bother you guys detract 0,5 or 1 from the overall score until he removes them. Simple as that.
  7. Re: Admin Chatter

    #87
Bleh. Stop wasting words on that.

    How's life, anyway?
  8. Re: Admin Chatter

LOL. Life is busy. I have discovered that being a Microsoft platform developer is all about... Debugging.

Microsoft is rotten through and through.

    Oooopsssss.... Did I say that?
  9. Re: Admin Chatter

Life is pretty damn good, actually.
  10. Re: Admin Chatter

Life is pretty d**n good, actually.

Oh la la! Must be "l'amour"!
  11. Re: Admin Chatter

    #91
Wheeeeeeen...Theeeeee...MOON hits your eye like a big pizza pie thats AMOREEEE!...thats amore. When your starting to shine, like you had too much wine, your in love.

Bells will ring...ding-a-ling-a-ling...ding-a-ling-a-ling, and you'll say Vita Bella.
  12. Re: Admin Chatter

    #92
Why would Moon hit your eye?

I normally go for the jugular/ throat, the chest wall (for the heart), or the sexual organs because it stops the target. Though, if I was left with secondary targets, eyes would do in a pinch.

  13. Re: Admin Chatter

Is it just me, or is Matan getting to the "really annoying" stage?  (He almost makes me long for Monument. While we did not agree, I could understand where he was coming from AND he followed the rules.)  And when he achieves that stage, what should be done, if anything?

  14. Re: Admin Chatter

    #94
    I've just started ignoring him.
  15. Re: Admin Chatter

    #95
We might not always agree folks. Me and Moon are proof of that ;)
I suggest we just follow the rules ourselves: Challenge poor submissions (Stat inclusion might be a reason for challenges) and delete copy and pasted stuff. Perhaps he will get it, perhaps not. Time will show.
  16. Re: Admin Chatter

    #96
I admit to have already Challenged one which was pure bulls**t. Stats are not a reason for challenging to me, stats plus a miserable submission, plus personal issues are. Requires Edit is a good stamp for it, for now.

Pity to see this kind of development, it looked for a while that he was starting to adapt.
  17. Re: Admin Chatter

    #97
Manfred, he simply did a slight re-edit of the challanged post and resubmitted it again. He did not get the "edit, correct, and resubmit concept.
  18. Re: Admin Chatter

Let me dump a few things on ya'll. Pep talk / pleading / dumping responsibility / soap box

I thought that I would be having more free time but I was wrong. The job I am in keeps me for 11+ hours a day most days and then we I get home I have been having good family time which I am not willing to part with at the moment. I am also on 24hr standby for personnel issues which aren't as rare as I could hope. Kicked out my 4th person out of the military today and met another I kicked out a few months ago so some days are just plain difficult.

As most of you know I spend most of my free minutes trying to sort out one thing or another on the site so as far as submissions and such, I just don't have the time to read them the way I want.

I know you don't need me to tell you, but go ahead and run the site. Discuss it a bit and do it. If you need me to do something, tell me you need to do it. Often with this sort of thing I will read your comments, all negative and all agreeing with each other, and I will drop the iron fist and do whatever. I need some of you to take those gauntlets and start dropping your own fists and nipping the stuff in the bud earlier before things get drawn out too far. This copy and paste thing with Matan, or whoever, should have been removed as soon as somebody noticed what was going on with it. You don't have to delete it, just pick delete or requires edit and it is removed from circulation but still available from his profile. I agree with you, and he is very annoying to me. My quick fix would be to delete that post and PM him a warning. I will still do that, but tell me you need to do that otherwise I will depend on you to handle it. I *am* happy to write the PM warnings or whatever, somebody just needs to give the story and I will send out the PM. CC me the PM if you think that is appropriate as well. If you are sending a warning, maybe if they see you sent it to me as an info that might give them an extra elbow.

I will be starting my engineering degree again in two weeks and it is a weekend course so I will lose even more of my freetime for the next 16 months or so as I go to complete this thing. I always depend on you to take care of things as you feel necessary and it will only become more necessary as time goes on. So go for it, I WILL back you....yes, you too Muro, you aren't here just for show ;) take care of it. Keep posting what you do here in the admin area so I can keep up with things and act knowledgeably when necessary. You know I have been, for a long time now, away from the *real* pulse of the Citadel. I depend on you all seeing the chats, following trends, and keeping up with the drama to act logically, decisively, and with good cause. You wouldn't be admins if I didn't trust you. Use the force. Trust your instincts.

    10-4, good buddy Strolen...

    Moving on...
    Good going, guys. Good going.
Now I know that in the past I haven't been exactly welcoming to newcomers, especially stubborn people who suck. But I was really trying with Matan Thunder.
And what do you guys do? You go and pull a Captain Penguin on me.
I understand that he wasn't getting the picture, but now you guys have gone and pissed him off. http://www.strolen.com/content.php?node=2578
I'm not saying I'm going to miss him... He was far too much of a pigheaded D&D munchkin ****tard. But I still think we should maybe have tried diplomacy before busting out the big guns (*cough*psychoanalysis*cough*)
  20. Re: Admin Chatter

    #100
oh, I thought I was only here for show...hmmmm.

I'll begin by challenging every one of Scrasamax's submissions, deleting all of Manfred's work, and copying and pasting all kinds of annoying trivia into every one of Moon's posts.
  21. Re: Admin Chatter

    #101
Oh no, Muro found what all he can do... run away who can!

Strolen, good luck to that real life of yours - we have our shares of that, too. But we'll carry the flag on. You can trust us to keep the place... *bumps into something that falls and breaks* Ahem, anyway.

As for Matan... won't miss him, though I too am a bit unhappy about the end. We have behaved really decently for quite a while, in accord with our mission statement. It seems that our little Borg collective has a few weaknesses, though. When we hit upon (yet another) munchkinous, stat-spewing, D&D-wielding fool, we turn into the "Resistance is futile — you will be assimilated." mode. Is there a therapy?

*EDIT* Sent the one with no content but personal stuff into Requires Edit again... may delete it if he leaves for good. Have noticed he has deleted all of his submissions, even those that had some acceptance. No loss there, a strange feeling persists, though.

From what I recollect now, there was quite a misunderstanding concerning the moving of a submission into Requires Edit, something he didn't notice, which few new members would anyway. Feature Suggestion: send automatically a PM to a member if his/hers submission is treated in this way. Bonus points for the one of you who writes a diplomatic enough text for the PM.

    *EDIT* So I googled a bit. http://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17555&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
It appears our friend is quite apt at creating problems for himself anyway. My strange feeling is lessening.
  22. Re: Admin Chatter

Good riddance. I have no problem destroying those that will not be assimilated. Each time somebody tries to force their ways on "our" collective, it takes away a little about what the site was made for. I am actually really proud that we have a standard and a philosophy that we are trying to stick to. The site hasn't been taken over by munchkins or digressed into chitty chat like many others I have seen. It is you's guys that are driving that steady high quality and I would rather make a few people pissy then lose that. Not that we need to be overly rude about it, but our point and the site standards drive who we want here and if you can't conform, at least to a point? bye bye.
  23. Re: Admin Chatter

    #103
I just think it was harsh, that's all.
  24. Re: Admin Chatter

    #104
    me too.
  25. Re: Admin Chatter

    #105
Perhaps, but good riddance. Perhaps I am feeling a little elite and possessive at the moment, but some people can really rub me the wrong way when they are warping my vision. Now, I am a very easily manipulated as long as the core idea of the site maintains it's continuity. He was taking away that continuity and stability and I disliked that.

I posted a quickie on the latest downage. I am very pissy right now so must leave elst I say something I may regret. ;)

I complained and sent a request for credit to the billing department. We got credit for a month of hosting so, all said, I will take the down time for a free month. They had to fsck the drive and then didn't tell me they were done so we lost a chunk of the day.

    Going to watch King Kong.
  27. Re: Admin Chatter

    #107
Actually we started out nice. We were helpful. We were subtle. We did polite personal PMs. He decided to ignore them. We tried stronger messages. We were all posting the same sorts of replies to everyone one of his posts.  He kept posting what ever he wanted, which was fine, but then he got all upset that he was not getting glowing feedback. If you remember the Melebonean post he was down right hostile towards everyone who had a differing opinion. And on his other posts as well.

In short, he does not want to play with us.  Let him go post on community 3e.

Deleted my first comment today, from Moon's Falconry & Hawking Post by Barbarian Horde...

This was the lovely message in question: "you are so ugly that when you went to an ugly8878473847"

I've got to make a bit of a scene now, it has been common knowledge among admins that we can see other peoples in work/hidden areas. While it doesnt bother me too much that these areas can be viewed I think it is bad taste for someone to actually comment on a submission that is still in the Hidden area.

If a submission is in the hidden area that means it isnt ready for people to be viewing and commenting on it, admin or otherwise.

  32. Re: Admin Chatter

We had a somewhat similar issue on the Midian boards.  One of these is a regular PbP board, but one is more for character journals, backgrounds, game stories, and the like.  However, someone left a nasty comment on a character journal--which would be like penning your own margin notes in someone's diary.  The admin went ballistic, threatened to lock the forums completely, require people to email him posts & he would post them, or just take the forums down all together... None of that was needed, and a simple request/reminder that "blue book" character journals weren't the same as PbP threads was all that was merited.

From the chat it looks like the link was emailed to him, that is a bad on my side as it seems a check is either not being made or not being made correctly. I will see if I can fix that.

Normally, if it is just private, we usually won't even see it unless we view your profile as an admin and get to it from there. It shouldn't come up anywhere for normal users. The other issue might be that there might be no double check on a submission load. I guess, even as admins, there isn't really any reason for us to see private submissions is there? I will put some more checks and safeguards into the system. Also have to more fully develop the submission of hidden/requires edit type submissions so they actually appear "new" to the normal user. Lots of little things in that whole situation. May 12-13 is a coding weekend when I will hopefully get to a lot of this stuff.

:D Hey Muro, you showed me a hidden submission of yours only yesterday!

Other than that, I think it's okey. Admins don't need it and it shouldn't be a large load for the server.
  36. Re: Admin Chatter

    #116
well...Yes, I asked for your thoughts on it. Not quite the same as admins. "cruising" the Hidden In Works.
  37. Re: Admin Chatter

    #117
What? You want to deny us our God-given right to cruise hidden subs?
I MUST protest! Why, just this afternoon I finished my 30 page withering review of Murometz' and Scrasamax's "The Sausagier of Canal Street". I feel violated!...

Wait, wrong forum... Oh, yes! Kill that right. I never (ab)used it anyway.

I sense the hand of MoonHunter...

...has anyone noticed? In the V2.0 Workshop, the Myths, Articles and Idea Scroll categories are already cleaned up - obviously were the hard-to-transfer threads moved into the Catacombs, and made thus visible again for our users.

Has the time finally come to delete them? To say goodbye to a part of the old Citadel, and embrace the new one?
  39. Re: Admin Chatter

    #119
Actually, I saw them withering down there with no action for forever so decided to at least put them somewhere where they *might* get read instead of completely hidden.

I have been stalling on the deleting of the old forums for some reason.... :)
