Re: Admin Chatter
#641I'll be your Huckleberry!!!!!!!! Its what I do
Tell me how this works. I can sell anything. Please give me a primer on what we need to do. I'll dedicate a considerable portion of my time accomplishing, whatever it is exactly we need to be accomplished. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#642LOL
Lets wait for 3.0 to get a good start and once we have something to show, maybe we can start the official 3.0 with a bang. :)
And I have no idea where to start or what to do...which is a large reason I am not doing it.
Sounds like a marketing thread to me. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#643It seems to me that the 5in1 Quest was a complete success, seeing as we've got 5+1=6 submissions exactly. :)
I guess now we can really try something more popular. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#644Been a busy, awkward weekend for me.
No more moving to London. Those were canceled a little bit ago...
Friday I got new orders sending me to Okinawa. I guess I just can't avoid the Far East. I suppose I will hit the Great Wall of China this time. ;)
Come December (hopefully Jan if I can get them changed) I will be moving to Okinawa for 4 years. Next StrolenCon will be in Tokyo or Hawaii....maybe Australia even. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#645may all your blow-fish be free of toxins!
Oh, and if you ever find yourself in Hokkaido, see if you can get me one of those cool Ainu robes, made of softened elm bark and salmon skin!
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#646Remind me and I will get you whatever you want!
Sorry I have been scarce...again...started school again and this Japan move has us a bit freaked out. We have a lot to do before December and we are trying to plan it out. -

Re: Admin Chatter
#648The Quest has been great for us, as far as attracting new members, eh?
The wizard63- The Frog-King
Isk- He of the interesting weapons
Stomphoof- who seems to be an all around hoot
and another 1-2 whose names escape me, at the moment. We have had approximately 45 new submissions (according to Moon) posted this month!
Lets hope they stick around and keep posting! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#649That sounds like good news for us. :)
Btw, Wulf has proposed a new, regular challenge for freetexts... and it sounds darn interesting. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#650I actually proposed that in chat... do we want to make it an official thing? I was just going to give an inspiration of the week.. or if we had a holiday or something... plug for that. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#651Wulf outing Mourn on some kind of copyright thingy. Did we notice this?
I just saw this now, so if its been already discussed, then cool. If not, it seems Mourn is livid and quit the site. We dont want this.
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#652I miss all the drama. I only hear about it after it is too late. Any damage control I can do?
Link to post in question.. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#653Noticed, discussed, pondered on.
The submission is now Hidden, by Mourn himself, so I figure he is not gone completely. Scrasamax volunteered to send him a PM, so the damage control should be covered.
---
Aside:
[Ancient Gamer] 12:36 am: We should be so accustomed to that now, that we should have a standard response ready. It is easy really: One gets too close. Too intimate. We should advise these people to take a step back, breathe, enjoy real life and then return in a month, when emotions have calmed.
Studies have proven that too much computer time actually makes people unstable.
A standard response would be nice.
Legalese is like the Black Speech of Mordor... it brings the worst out of people. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#654It might be the fact that you are called out in the open. PMs are inconvenient when you are on the site so it is easier to just post a comment, but that is probably innappropriate, especially if the accuser is wrong, or especially if the accuser is right. In either case the accusation quickly gets heated. If there were a way to have private comments on posts or to send to PM from that part of the site....maybe. Nothing that can be abused or cause it to be used too much.
Maybe one of those "report" buttons, but not as critical or accusing as "report"....
just brain dumping. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#655thats exactly right, Strolen.
He should have sent him a PM, not waxed poetic in a subtely accusing and holier than thou tone.
my two cents, is Mourn is in the clear. He STATES in the opening that the work is entirely from a different source. Moon made a good comment too imo. "Leave the copyright issues to moderators. Members shouldnt worry."
I have more details and thoughts on this and the two folks involved (okay, one) but would rather get specific in a private PM.
(sorry, i'm a little perturbed about this)

Re: Admin Chatter
#657On the left side of all the quest, can you see the "remove from quest" link?
Just curious...you are meant to. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#658And that one is not a Legendary People Quest? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#659It is an unfinished entry into that Quest, so unfortunately not.
And... D'oh! Link on the left, and it works. Good to know now. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#660(Psst, Strolen, we probably need to get valadaar those 'custom dice' for winning the 5in1 quest) :)
Let me know what i can do...I can paypal you whatever they cost. What else? Are we waiting on Kevin Cook for something? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#661copy the dice. Was it a PM where you told me the phrase to use? Will do that now.
For those that care, my Okinawa assignment got canceled. I got accepted into the First Sergeant program where they will give me yet more power to spread the llama. It could change, but chances are high that I will simply remain at Little Rock for the next 2.5 years or so with an occassional unfortunate stint to Iraq. -

Ummm, YAY! on Okinawa cancellation! Boooo! on occasional Iraq visit! Yipeee! on Litttle-Rock -
Re: Admin Chatter
#663Dontcha' get killed or something in that Iraq, you still didn't fix all the bugs. ;)
And Yay to the llama thing! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#664Have you seen all our llama art?
www.llamanews.com
That is me in the pictures. :)
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#665In the name of the llama:
Some of you have already seen The Art of Linking. It will stay in work until
a) I sneak upon Cheka in the chat room and make him review it or
b) html linking is functional again
Until then, any comments from your side are welcome.
Update: need complete info on how the images are linked; also, the 'middle' (or 'center'?) alignment option doesn't seem to work. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#666Pretty close with those pictures though eh? Found a lost setting on the gallery that seems to have released it.
http://www.strolen.com/guild/index.php/topic,3165.0.html That is far as my writing instructions went. That and on the help menu link.
html linking....very high on the list. If I finish tonight in time I will look at it, otherwise hopefully tomorrow.
Great sub, I will read it tonight for sure. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#667Update on the links topic: raw links work nicely. Now we only need to have their html equivalents workable, and there will be much rejoicing!
Go Strolen! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#669They activate themselves by following a link in an automated email.
I clean that out every once in a while. People will never do it or give bogus email addresses. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#670It is strange how busy you can get, when you are not doing anything of consequence. :)
I didn't quite understand the following post right away, so I don't know if it's bordering on advertising, or is a genuine plea for help. Anyway, some admin ought to answer the call, if only to redirect the post to another forum. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#672http://www.strolen.com/guild/index.php/topic,4326.0.html
So, the question is now: will we let people upload their work here? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#673hmmmmmm.
See if he shows up and clarifies. I have no answer right now.
----
On a different note. Come Dec 2 I will be going to a 3-week school for my new job and I don't hold much hope that I will have a room with an internet connection. Will hit the library and such when I can but it is going to be a bit intense. After that I am going to Michigan for Christmas then will be back before the new year more or less. Should be back then. Just wanted to let you know! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#674He showed up. We might just make him post a part of his work as submissions... -
Re: Admin Chatter
#675BUMP! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#676Hmmm... things seem to be more unstable than usual... -
Re: Admin Chatter
#677Did you restart for kicks? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#678I got an error saying the database is an old version.....which doesn't make sense.
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#679Nope, no restart done.
Was there any update recently? I looked a little around, but didn't find a useful report on the "Please try again. If you come back to this error screen, report the error to an administrator." thing. Many speak something about an update - whether of the SMF or a mod; then they would play around with the DB and it would miraculously disappear. *shrugs*

Re: Admin Chatter
#680Did a database update, maybe that will do something.
