    Ooooohhhhhh.

    Wikipedia entry.

I didn't understand that the first time.

Yeah, we should, Definately! There are only 10 sites up there now.

Yesss, my preciousss... THE Wikipedia.

Dunno how it works, dunno if they want us, but man it would be fine.
  3. Re: Admin Chatter

Maybe for the wiki, no for the personal blogs, that's what livejournal is for.  I can't think of any reason why we'd need one onsite.  (I think I was for it when it first came up, but I'm a girl, I'm allowed to change my mind.)

For the forum games, what do you mean?  Like a virtual table top, or just little things to make them run smoother?  I don't quite get what you want to do.
  5. Re: Admin Chatter

    #565
An entire rewrite and not do it in the forums pretty much. In the vein of http://www.rpol.net/ but our own system how we want it.
  6. Re: Admin Chatter

    #566
Mm.  I don't quite get how rpol.net is different from forum games, but I'm sure I'll find out eventually.
  7. Re: Admin Chatter

Forums as a specifically defined word for phpBB or SMF. It will still be forumish, but it will be catered towards roleplayers was my point.

Can post as multiple personas depending on the game.
    Auto/easy dice rolls.
OOC and private discussions in the threads.
DM may have extra stuff to work the game.
Possible inventories that can be combined with the game/rolls/profiles of the personas.

Stuff like that. A forum built for roleplaying, not just roleplaying in a forum.
  8. Re: Admin Chatter

    #568
    Oooh... nifty.
  9. Re: Admin Chatter

    #569
If we can swipe all of RPOL's features, I will never have to leave this site.

Really, rpol.net has the best featureset of any Forum Post site.

GM has editorial abilities, built in and does not have to be an admin. Private messages, secret messages (usually for game mechanics) can be embedded into a normal post, and the ability to have people post under their character names (in a given game) are very, very fun.

That will be in v5.0. By then I will have the skills to develop scalability into it so we can grow exponentially.

Problem will be funds and figuring out how to afford it. :(

I would love to develop a system like that....drooool.

    MS Internet Explorer No 63594 58 %
    Opera No 22445 20.4 %
    Firefox No 21549 19.6 %

I wonder if we are outside the norm for % of who uses what. Makes me proud none-the-less.
  12. Re: Admin Chatter

So 98% of people uses the big three... not bad. Is there also info on the browser versions, for the day when it becomes interesting?

As an aside, I have found some scoring of various toolkits for AJAX according to their browser compatibility. So when you start 'inspiring' yourself, you have a place to start. :)
    http://www.musingsfrommars.org/2006/03/ajax-dhtml-library-scorecard.html

Some more links on market share of browsers (whatever it is); and browser statistics.

Granted, we want only simple things from AJAX. But it'll be still nice to have as wide browser-compatibility as possible.

Excellent list and good article! I intend to write my own libraries (doing it to learn after all) but I am certain I will be looking at those open source options to help me with the cross capabilities, although the few books I have seem to address most of the compatibility questions as well.

V5.0 is still far away. We have to see first about the rest of the versions. :)

But when it approaches, do not forget to let us know, what it would entail - whether it's money or support, you know we can help a little.

    I refound the elders:

(none of the links work on these pages)

    The original:
    http://www.strolen.com/FUN/strolen_old/
(can't find the graphics anymore, probably close to what they are in the next one anyway)

    The original part 2:
    http://www.strolen.com/FUN/strolen_old2/
(I remember the guilds, they were suppose to tie in all the submissions applicable to each guild)

    The next:
    http://www.strolen.com/FUN/elder/

A never used concept: (if we did, it was short)
    http://www.strolen.com/FUN/kate/strolen1.html

I haven't found the parchment/san/sepia one to upload yet.
  16. Re: Admin Chatter

    #576
Looks a bit different than I remember it. :)

The elder one is quite familiar though... oh, and do put the sepia look somewhere if you find it, for sentimental purposes.

    So, how's everyone doing?

Not that I don't like a mind-numbing technical debate now and then. But let's try to return this thread it's name. So how are you people living? Where are you? What are you doing? Do tell.

I stole a tin cup with $2.34 in change from a homeless person. It was hilarious. He couldn't chase me because he was crippled!

    ------
An aside to that serious story:

Not going to ask, but I noticed some comments/votes have disappeared... Only noticed because of a recent dialog with AG for votes w/no comments which made this one(more?) pretty obvious.

Not going to ask, don't care. I would appreciate it if this did not happen again. You guys are admins because I trust you, don't let me lose that trust. Not pointing figures and I don't want anybody else either. Maybe I am wrong. Who knows. Hopefully I am.
    ------

The dude sure had a set of lungs on him though the way he yelled as we ran. (I had my wife, son, and 15mo old with me) They couldn't stop laughing and when the police showed up, I had to pick up my son because he kept falling over in laughter. We joined a marathon for cancer patients and quickly lost them. It was a great day. Really made up for not being chased when we skipped out of IHOP without paying earlier that morning.

    I just had a revelation.

Not ready to share it yet, as I have to put it all together.

Mine eyes be newly opened to newfound thoughts on how the citadel can operate.
  20. Re: Admin Chatter

    #580
    wow, thats cruel  :P
  21. Re: Admin Chatter

    #581
    Now something of my side:

I am currently in the process of looking for a new job, so my presence and activity may be for some time a bit erratic (well more than usual ;) ). I'd like to find something in Munich, which I have grown used to - but there's always the option to try it somewhere else in Germany.

So I'll be around, just may not post/comment as much. Hopefully the dust will clear in under a few weeks.

    ---

That personal note aside, did you people notice how the number of War-related subs went up?
  22. Re: Admin Chatter

    #582
I guess its my turn then. I just bought a house, my wife is more pregnant by the hour  :P, and I may be switching jobs...again. My time here over the next few weeks will be severely limted.

    --

as to War Quest...YES, I noticed. Some cool subs coming in! On that note, I would like to ask if it would be ok to extend the Quest by 24-48 hours. There is this looong collab brewing you see, and both collabees are swamped with real life  :P.

Can I extend it till Sunday?
  23. Re: Admin Chatter

    #583
I don't see why not, you should be able to change the deadline in the quest page.  Shouldn't he?
  24. Re: Admin Chatter

    #584
    Fine with me.
  25. Re: Admin Chatter

    #585
I started phase 1 of the index personalization deal. There are some unusable options in the main citadel profile to show my thought process so far.

I will finish it tomorrow probably so there shouldn't be much of a wait for it.
  26. Re: Admin Chatter

    #586
lot of stuff in the delete/ recycle bin of the forum. What is up with that?
  27. Re: Admin Chatter

    #587
Now at least some of them are (or were) legitimate, so I'd say there is something fishy going on.
  28. Re: Admin Chatter

    #588
I do trimming in some of the bug threads and such to get rid of the non-topic stuff. Many others are people deleting their own posts. I turned on the recycle bin a long time ago and it keeps anything that is deleted.  A lot of the stuff makes sense once you look at what the posts are. If you see something specifically fishy, let us all know so we can make a decision. I think all that is logged in the admin panel somewhere so I might be able to see who did what. It might be an option I disabled though as I hate tracking unneeded things.
  29. Re: Admin Chatter

    #589
I lied about the frontpage (again) but all the options are up and they are updatable, they just don't do anything yet.
  30. Re: Admin Chatter

    #590
Or maybe not fishy at all.

I've searched the few I have suspected, and they turned out to be legal (reposted elsewhere, etc.)

There is one from Moon which I find a little suspicious though:
    http://www.strolen.com/guild/index.php/topic,3915.0.html (removed by author, or...?)
  31. Re: Admin Chatter

I don't think so. It could of been to work a bump, but I don't remember doing it.  Of course, in the bleary state I am often in....
  32. Re: Admin Chatter

    #592
Well, I've been telling you a life full of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll will take it's toll eventually, but you didn't believe me. :)

All Hail Muro for continuing to be the cornerstone of StrolenCon and, additionally, the benefactor of an additional donation to the Citadel "Take Over the World" fund!

MOON: Are you going to be able to make it to NY. I think we have 8 definites so far (right Muro?)  We need you propaganda skills!
  34. Re: Admin Chatter

    #594
Moon is planning on it, though my new boss has yet to greenlight the days off. Thus we are working arrival times and such.
  35. Re: Admin Chatter

    #595
lesseee...we have the following people as drop-dead definites:

    Strolen
    Murometz
    Ria Hawk
    Wanderer
    Kamina
    daughter of Wanderer and Kamina

    we have several almost-definites:

Moon Hunter (you better be in the definite category soon mister!)
    Alec Shadowkin
    Pieh & compadres

we have several almost-definites with asterisks:

    Scrasamax*
    Chaosmark*

    we have several maybes:

Pariah...(only one that immediately comes to mind)

sorry if I missed anyone. I wrote this from memory (and my memory is bad  :P)

Just wanted to say that my period of job-seeking (intermixed with a little holiday ;) ) is over. Yup, I got a job. It is a tiny publishing house (actually a startup running a few years) that produces personalized books. And mine will be a job in the web development area, there system being based on Python it will be an interesting challenge.

    ---

Aside from that, I have spent the last week attempting to make Linux run on my new notebook. The basic things run perfectly of course, but put Linux and any of the following together [notebooks, wireless LAN, burning DVDs] and you get trouble. Put them all together, and you are ready for the bughouse.

I can't help but think that Linux is not yet ready to take on the M$ monster. :/ It's gone a long way, and it surely has the potential, but today is not it's day... yet.

    ---

Well, I just wanted to let you know that I'll around a bit more. See you in the place!
