#601Him and manfred then. ;) -
Re: Admin Chatter
#602With all those videos popping around, I have been pondering for some time to post the following one. It's got some science to it, but I just don't know if the political aspect wouldn't be too much for the place. Anyway:

Re: Admin Chatter
#603fascinating!
post it for all to see! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#604I agree. Reading conflicting articles about it has always made me a skeptic. I HATE popular media so jump on any chance to discredit it. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#605Already posted.
---
I have just remembered that we planned to institute a special category of Former Admins (or was that Fallen Admins? ;) ), for those who are gone for a time, or for good. There have been some voices to not forget to give AG some recognition, and that is one way, too.
Speaking of the man, there is very little drama here now... actually, it is dreadfully quiet. :|
Well, yeah. We'll learn to live with it. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#606I like death metal -
Re: Admin Chatter
#607I decided to change my avatar.
New category can work. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#608Hey, and Agar is back, too!
---
Side note: somebody give a little lecture to Cheka when you meet him, on the topic of linking and html code. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#609Again? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#610Been in a slight strolen.com hiatus. Still around, but scarce. Will probably last another week. Lots 'o stuff going on right now so am having to sacrifice a little bit.
Hold out for me though, will be back soon!
MOON = what is the number to your boss. I will make some phonecalls, mention it to my congressman over dinner, whatever I need to do to get you Friday off so you can spend the weekend w/us. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#611manfred: you want drama? I thought we dont want drama? I may have misunderstood the entire point of this site.....I have enough drama in real life.
strolen: take your time. Not much going on anyway.
Moon: what strolen said!
oh wait, I just remembered. Moon announced that he got the day off, and WILL be attending StrolenCon! WOOOOOOOT!
that comedian is Jeff Foxworthy I believe. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#612No desire to have here drama, per se, just don't like the quiet nothingness. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#613Did somebody say llama??? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#614There's a llama! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#615best submission inspired by or featuring a 'llama' gets a cookie! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#616Oh yeah!!!!!
That sounds like a good quest too actually. Is that what you have in your pocket for the next one Muro? hehe -
Re: Admin Chatter
#617Just one more week until my first year of teaching is over... *sigh of relief* -
Re: Admin Chatter
#618I actually didn't notice the guy for weeks, if not months, so...
...am I getting completely bonkers or is T-Bone now writing whole sentences? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#619Can we get a mini quest... to fill the gap. Really more of a drive. More planets. These can be individual subs or scroll subs on the Planet's Scroll of Manfred's?
All we need is an announcement for all hands to post some planets. And that announcement to have a link to the locations/ planets section and to Manfred's scroll.
We could leave it up for a week or two, until Muro posts up the next quest.
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#620Quest over!
Worked well for a fast mini-quest thingy.
---
Outpost of Tydor is actually a quest submission, so it should be marked as such. We have also utterly failed to notice its update for almost two weeks, shame, shame.
(And that's why I keep whining for the 'Updated' comments being visible among the Newest 20 Comments. :| )
---
Anyway, welcome back, everyone! It's been a pleasant sleepy weekend without you. :) -
Re: Admin Chatter
#621Cool new Quest idea coming this week, as soon as I recover from the Con, get some work done, and get my fantasy thoughts in order.
I'll post the full idea here first for your consumption. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#622We've exchanged now and then a couple words about elevating new folks into the blessed admin status (whatever), but there was never a hurry - even now isn't. One of the options considered were some partial, let's call it, moderator positions, from where we could easily draw new recruits as needed.
And valadaar had just a neat idea, that would make the perfect transition: allow people from certain level on be able to delete BH comments from their own posts. (With a good point, that they shall be logged somewhere.)
We could grant this based on level or a personal basis, and of course extend the rights for a selected few to deleting BH comments anywhere - and we have almost moderators. The powers can be expanded as we see fit.
Thoughts? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#623thoughts: good idea! And I think valadaar would make a great mod and eventual admin!
he produces prolifically, is on the site always, cares about whats going on, and is a nice guy!
back to topic, it seems logical to let those that have attained a decent level, to at the very least expunge crap from their own subs (and maybe other subs)
so, I for one, agree thats its a good idea! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#624I agree. A lot of that was the intention of the original leveling system that never came into fruitation. I have the leveling and permissions set, just no code on the site to take advantage of them. This is a large focus of 3.0 as well. It has been somewhat standard procedure to promote to admin people like valadaar since the leveling isn't working. It is sort of getting to the point where it just isn't realistic to promote everybody we want to admin status which is all I can do with the current system. Right now though, I don't mind giving some promotions. Just so everyone realizes that the moderator/admin system will be updated for better use and peoples permission set may change when it comes to light.
Is valadaar the only one? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#625What about Wulfhere? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#626I second and/or third Val and Wulfhere. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#627The Five in One Challenge.
The time to honor yourself will soon be at an end...Highness
--Russ Crowe, Gladiator
The idea behind this Quest is to use five random submissions and craft one masterpiece from them. The point is to celebrate some of the forgotten posts of the past, dredge up favorites, and highlite your peers and colleagues' works.
Rules (malleable, which is why I posted this in admin chatter for your review)
--You cannot use any of your own subs (too easy)
--You cannot pick your 5 subs ahead of time. Until the quest begins there can be no "thinking ahead". The Quest time limit should be about 1.5 months to allow folks more time to search, ponder, and create (for a challege of this kind)
--5 subs must be picked randomly. ideally, this can be done by having a "buddy" quickly refresh the "Random Submissions" a few times, and choose for you.
--the subs cannot have a higher vote score than "4" (4.5 maybe?) The idea here being to not use the very best subs that we have to offer, but those that can use some love and companionship!
-- your finished piece must be under X # of words (to avoid novels if at all possible)
--Other than those guidelines, anything goes. The person who wins (creates the coolest 5in1 submission) wins a set of customized dice!!
How does this sound to you folks?
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#628I like it!
Of course we could have a set person dole out the random submissions to those who request them. There could also be an optional 6th choice, just for one to swap out.
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#629excellent suggestions!
I humbly request nomination to the title of 'Random Sub Selector'. I wont have much time for writing over the next few weeks/months (triplets!! dang) but would it sure would be fun to randomly assign subs to my felow Questors! :D
yeah or nay? what say you? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#630Val and Wulf were the two people I have considered, so yes to those. If another name is desired, there is also Pariah.
---
Oh, and I like the rule of being under X words. Wonder how people will count it, but it is certainly a way to go (you know why, Muro ;) ).
To have one man to generate it all thing is pretty cool, we just have to be sure the numbers will be available when people want them... so you'll need to watch a forum thread or be fast with the PMs. I'm sure you will find a way.
Anyway: We have a new Quest! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#631I would second Pariah! He deserves it! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#632Another thought on the heap.
On the way to moderatorship, there is one particular area where we might use some help: Freetext.
We could have specialized moderators that are able to change the freetext on any sub, and thus maintain the supernatural balance, or something. It is especially the older submissions that are often uncategorized, and more eyes see more things, even without active looking. As an intro to moderatorship and editing user's submissions could it be useful...
Not sure if it's worth it, but here you go. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#633Hey, people are getting restless! Time to get out the big gun!
One attempt:

The Five in One Challenge.

The idea behind this Quest is to use five random submissions and craft one masterpiece from them. The point is to celebrate some of the forgotten posts of the past, dredge up favorites, and highlight your peers and colleagues' works.
Rules (comments?)
- Thou shall not use any of your own submissions.
- The Five shall be picked randomly, ideally with the aid of Murometz, who will gladly generate them for you. However, those impatient of you may choose and contact any Citadelian of your preference, who shall thence produce them for you - the 'Random Submission' link on pretty much any page of the main Citadel being a good source. Refresh and enjoy. :)
- The chosen submissions shall not have a higher vote score than "4.5". Even the seemingly less perfect submissions deserve love and companionship. Please, help them shine!
- (Optional) A sixth submission may be generated if you so desire, to swap it with another that you desire less.
Other than these guidelines, anything goes. The person who wins the Quest, will be awarded a set of customized Citadel-dice in addition to the usual laurels !
---
Questions:
"-- your finished piece must be under X # of words (to avoid novels if at all possible)"
- how do we make our members count their words? I'm afraid there is no easy and comfortable way without referring to third-party solutions... which sounds like a no to me. How about we just add a clause about keeping things as simple as possible?
How about a freetext 5in1? Could be useful for possible later submissions as well. ;) -
Re: Admin Chatter
#634I like this plan! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#635Word counting is easy, the spellcheck will actually count the words in a submission, and tell you that XX words out of XXXX words are mispelled. When can we start this quest and who will be in charge of doiling out subs for 5 in 1? If you need a volunteer, I'm good for it. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#636I'll post the official Quest tonight! Was away a while. Back now (well, until July 4th anyway)
I will dole the subs out (previously volunteered). Or, as manfred mentions, just ask any fellow citadellian to randomly select them for you, using the handy dandy, Randon Submissions thingy.
WOOT!!
oh, and happy 4th of July statesiders!

Re: Admin Chatter
#637This was suppose to be 3.0 happy coding week, but I got jammed with writing a 15 page award package for our 1K person squadron. Don't worry, I have a week to do it.
This is honestly the first time I have brought work home with me and it SUCKS!!
Two weeks from now the family goes away again for 2.5 weeks and by then the package will be WAY done. So that is my new timeframe. DAMNIT! I WANT TO CODE NOW! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#638This is a post to force an email announcement to you so you can read the roleplayingtips new post. :) -
Re: Admin Chatter
#639love it, love it!
only humble request would be...can we finish off this quest first, please?
I thought the current Quest was dying a slow death, but apparently I've been told, there are quite a few people working on submissions!
back to the topic at hand....LOVE IT, DO IT, SIGN US UP!!!
p.s. how come this fellow has sponsers and we dont, btw? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#640He has sponsors because he is cool.
I was waiting till before I was going to really start to try and sell this place. I wanted worlds working! I think that is going to be an awesome feature.
Oh, and I suck as a salesman, ok, I might not suck, I don't do it...at all. ;)
IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME.
