OOC: Back in the Day...

Re: Back in the Day...
#161no ma'm. If you recall Ollie's info, you have to paddle downstream about a half hour or so before the Lake of Steam begins to cool, and emerges above ground thru a another cave opening. This current landing you just neared is the half-way point, where a group of guards are always around, according to Ollie, keeping an eye on the waterway. Surprisingly, there is no one here.
And just to repeat, accelerated, action-packed RP is coming to a theatre near you this weekend! -
Re: Back in the Day...
#162Ack! I'm going to be away from any computers with internets for all of Saturday! -

Re: Back in the Day...
#167WOO-HOO!!!!
so, after the lizard returns 15-20 minutes later, while telepathically describing to Dujek what he has seen (and with Ollie's earlier information and description), Vee and Aerex sketch a quick map.

Re: Back in the Day...
#168For fifteen or twenty minutes, maybe longer, the lizard telepathically communicated to Dujek. The necromancer in turn translated the reptile's thoughts for Aerex and Vee in a hushed whisper. Between this latest information and Ollie's earlier rough sketch, they began to get a good feel for the Bandit Camp's overview (map).
According to the familiar, everywhere an "X" was on the map indicated 2 guards. The lizard did not crawl all the way to the actual encampment but did mention he heard the sounds of celebration from the heart of the camp, but it seemed the sounds were beginning to be muted, as more and more of the bandits apparently passed out and began to fall asleep.
When the lizard returns it is only fifteen or so minutes until the sun would begin climbing the horizon.

#169We attack at dawn! -
Re: Back in the Day...
#170So... by getting off the boat right at the exit of the cave, then walking through that southern patch of the Laurel forest until we hit path further south, we could bypass 8 guards, eh? And then if we could rig up traps/ambushes in that section of forest, and lure the last couple guards in there (Perhaps with a suggestive dance from Talia? Or persuation from a 17 charisma, guard-dressed Vee?) We could off the four guards at the entrance of the camp without too much difficulty. Alternatively, we could skirt around the camp and start from the farmlands, bypassing the four camp-entrance guards entirely (However that leaves them still there to be called on if needed).
Anyway.
Other thoughts?
And on the actual bandit camp: Were we going to send 1 in to look for things they can do to sabotage? Perhaps they have something we could use as poison for the booze in the camp? -
Re: Back in the Day...
#171Let's get out of the cave and into the woods while we still have the cover of darkness. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#172So, this is my character:
Glordren Blarchtmir
Appearance: Glordren is a bulky dwarf, almost five feet tall and about as broad, this being further enhanced by his usual style of dress, which includes huge shoulder pads.
Actually, he looks more as if he had been built and not born, his square head atop his barrel chest, and legs that resemble tree stumps more than anything else.
A very cultivated dwarf is this priest, with his ruddy-blonde hair woven into tight braids with silver rings, the same true of his beard, his large nose polished to a healthy sheen. His eyes are an azure blue, piercing and firm, roofed by bushy eyebrows. To be honest, all of Glordren’s broad back, muscular chest and forearms can be described as ‘bushy’.
His chest bears the book and serpent sign of his faith, while his palms bear tattoos of coins – meant to symbolize that there is always gold in his hands, and to attract further coin.
Certainly, Glordren likes to keep gold close to him, which shows in how enthusiastically he adorns himself – gold chains around his neck, rings worked into his gauntlets, earrings as to hear the tinkle of gold better, and a nose-ring as to be able to sniff out the precious metal.
As for attire, Glordren prefers the adorned half-plate with huge shoulder-pads, neck guards and a full helm with a red crest, or more civil chain mail when sleeping or in more private settings. For sure, he also likes his thick red hooded cloak, and most of all his trusty tower shield marked with the sigils of his godly lady, with the valid laws of trade and sacred litanies engraved in the inner side of the shield.
History: After Bornurk Nardru, a prosperous dwarven town guarding several trade routes, fell, its inhabitants were scattered into the winds. So was the clan of the Blarchtmir, packing but their beloved tools and fleeing before the greedy hordes. Some of them settled in human towns, or pledged their services to the lazy elves, yet a few families strayed to a temple citadel overseeing the much-traveled passes of the Seth-Nor mountains.
No simple temple it was, but the residence of the Divine Made Flesh, a naga of gold and cerulean coils, her Radiant Majesty Emrissa the Golden – a mercantile deity of great wisdom and justice, also one of the guardians of the golden disc of the sun. In her halls they settled, offering their services as craftsmen and guards for her splendor. Wise as She was, the goddess accepted them.
Glordren was born into a craftsman’s family, to Nromdar and Ramrannra, as the sixth son. Despite being younger than them, soon he began to stand up for them anytime they committed mischief, to arrange their matters, to judge them in case of dissent, and to watch over them, just in case. Then, in his teens, he took up the fine craft of jewel-smiting, and stood watch over Emrissa’s treasuries, distracted more than once by the wealth within, peeking inside and toying with the accumulated riches, for jewels and the sun metal was his passion true. He’d observe them from every angle, basking in their beauty, caressing them to feel their cold perfection, and even speak to them, listening to the tiny voices within in return.
After his duty was over, he often slept in the treasuries.
When thieves broke into the sanctum, plundering a decent portion of the riches, the upheaval in the temple-fort was great. Even though some of the felons were caught, the servants of Emrissa were unable to make them speak where the stolen riches were hidden; several of them even swallowed poison as to escape from the torment their master would put them through if they betrayed his secret.
That was when Glordren reached into the filthy belongings of one of the culprits, and produced a single ring stolen from the treasury – he knew it well, for he spent many an hour studying it, its elegant curves and harmonic design. The ring knew him well too, for its spirits had delighted in Glordren’s warmth. So they spoke to him, of where they had been taken, where the thieves hide, and the dwarves sallied out, and reclaimed the wealth, smiting the rogues mightily.
Seeing his dedication and potential, the elder priests presented Glordren to their lady, and received a smiling ‘yes’.
Character: Glordren has a stable character, far from being prone to mood swings; when he’s angry, the feeling seethes on, when he is delighted, little will spoil his joy. This is mirrored in his attitude towards debt and vengeance: he repays both good and ill in kind, in equal measure. Some might call him block-headed, and they might be right. Still, this has its merits too: rarely does Glordren forget his friends, duties and obligations.
The young priest is quite structured, planning ahead, setting up schedules, but still calculating in time for a little relaxation, be it with friends and music, a good board game (upon which he eagerly bets money, but he absolutely loathes to gamble) or a nice lady. Concerning those, he’s got a stable taste: they’ve got to be wearing gold and jewels. Ah, the gold. Glordren sure likes it, even more than many other dwarves – gold is his hobby, his craft, his passion; honestly earned gold, for should he earn it through ill deed, not only will it not please him, but also the spirits within, they might be angered.

Re: Back in the Day...
#180Plan V for Victory
After studying the maps Vee has come up with an idea for a distraction/diversion. The two boats can put ashore at the head of the bow in the river, roughly 300 feet from the guards on the south side of the river. Once the boats are secured, the Rogues can use their Hide in Shadows skill to ghost along the edge of the Laurelwood past the first group. Using clib tongue and urgency, the guards at the bridge might be Bluffed into rushing back to the caverns, or to some suitable other destination as far from the camp as possible.
This sends the guards into an ambush with the waiting party members, supplying more bandit armor and lewts for disguises for the rest of the party. Vee and Aerex can support with backstabs, or even force the bandits to surrender! We ties them up with their own shirts or do something bizarre like place some of Moruz' glass coins over their eyes and tell them they are magic items that will kill them if they fall off... might work...good bluff check and all.
This can be done fairly quickly, hopefully. Vee and Aerex can take turn 'leading' pairs of guards into this trap. this should take care of the initial line of defenders while the next stage of the plan is made and put into action. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#181Aerex seconds that plan. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#182lets give it a try -
Re: Back in the Day...
#183Sorry about the lack of postage... real life and other responsibilities are eating me at the moment. Hopefully in a day or two, I'll be able to actually post. -

Re: Back in the Day...
#186Tristan will probably go along with it, though he won't participate in the backstabbing part. He /will/ provide a distraction of some kind though. Perhaps some sort of theological conversion or some such thing. -

Re: Back in the Day...
#200I'll be gone again this weekend. Standing orders with the gnolls: kill as quickly and painlessly (to us) as possible. They're too low in the hierarchy and too dangerous to try and arrest.
