Re: Back in the Day...
#81Okay, XP totals, not counting any lootz, since we don't know what we'll get for that until we sell them.
Me, Dozus, Wulf, and Pariah each have 375 xp after rounding.
Shadow and Scras have 350.
Chaos has 166. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#82Sweet!
--anyone interested in the Flindbar? If nothing else, its an extremely rare weapon to come across. Only flinds use it effectively, though rumors of human warriors who have mastered the fighting style exist.
--Interested or not, you may add 30 XP for it now. If you sell it to that guy who's 'worlds greatest weapon collection' is missing only that 'dang Flindbar' and get mucho gold, you'll get more xp later.
--4 Master-work dwarven axes. Master-work means, they are top quality, perfectly crafted weapons. They could bring nice coin.
--You know, now that I think about it, a restful rendezvous in town as you hatch your "plan" is not a bad idea..your choice, no matter to me. Then again, Ganse is a sorry town.
--the dwarf had NO valuables on him, none. Except 1 gold coin, Dujek found when he gutted him, and a plain pearl earring Aerex found while contemplating decapitation. (value-??). The Flind bore a necklace of various teeth(value-??), but like the dwarf, the gnoll apparently chose NOT to bring his "treasure" along on its midnight mission of murder...sorry
--what else folks?..now is the time for questions and clarity. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#83Okay, then counting the flindbar, we have new totals.
Me, Dozus, Pariah, and Wulf have 380.
Scras and Shadow have 355.
Chaos has 171. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#84Alright peeps, we have been making some rookie mistakes.
We have no plan for facing combat. Clerics and rogues were nailed on the front line and our warrior had to stand alone. That is a bad strategy. We need to regroup and figure out how we are going to face combat when we have more to face than a badass dwarf and a flind. At this point a band of goblins could kick our collective butts.

Re: Back in the Day...
#85Honestly, it's rather good that I'm incapacitated. My grandmother passed away last night, and so I'll be leaving tonight. No clue when I'll be back. Sorry lady and gents. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#86You have my condolances Chaosmark. It's never an easy thing.

Back in the Day... New character posting
#87Name: Kadarin
Player: Valadaar
Class: Magic User(Mage)
Race: Human
Attributes
Str 10
Dex 15
Con 13
Int 16
Wis 9
Cha 12
Weapon Skills:
(you're kidding, right?)
Sling
Other Skills:
Swimming
Diplomacy
Perception
Magecraft
Alchemy
Research
Prestigitation (non-magic)
Riding
Appearance:
Kadaran is a rather non-descript young man of 20 years. He is tall, slightly underweight and has the pallor of one who has
spent too much time in front of books and out of the sun. Generally quiet and unimposing, this is further reinforced by the
drab grey robe he wears. His bear head sports a crown of generally dishevaled black hair, and grey blue eyes look out from
under the disordered bangs.
Background:
Kadarin has not always been a bookworm. Born of a poor familiy, he spent much time on the streets, supplimenting his family's
mean income however he could manage. Facinated by magic, he taught himself slight of hand, with some help from a local rogue.
He also read up on as much Alchemy as he could find, and spent a great deal of time trying to poison rats and insects.
Real magic, Kadarin thought, was a door closed to him. Amused by his nephew's skills, Kadarin's uncle, a local 'buisnessman'
with many links to organized crime, sponsored Kadarin into true magic studies. With his uncle as a patron, he quickly excelled
in his training. He did, however, come out of his training with a rather large debt with his Uncle. When asked, his uncle simply said
"Don't worry, when the time comes, I'm sure you'll pay me back. We have plans." He would not elaborate further, and Kadarin did
not press the matter.
Now Kadarin is obesessed with settling accounts with his uncle, on his own terms. He fears that the payment will cost him more than
gold, as he knows his uncle is not a good man. Kadarin wants to accumulate enough gold to cancel his debt before his uncle names his
price....

Re: Back in the Day...
#88Guys, we REALLY SHOULD STOP AND REST. Several of us are injured, We're out of spells (except a few cantrips) and Tristan looks like 5 miles of bad road. Let's finish this cave at full hp and spells!
Please! I've been in two near TPKs in the last couple of years and both started out looking like this. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#89I agree with Wulf - lets take a pause either at the fork in the cave, or even back outside. Regroup, plan out future battle-tactics, and hell - get to know the new guy! I mean, come on - we've not spoken a word to him before rushing off into an unknown cave, plus he's back outside, cheek half-ripped off. It certainly doesn't seem in character for any one of the party members to go rushing off into a cave with half the group nearly dead, the other half without spells and with no idea what's going on in there - no matter how little they know each other.
Perhaps send ONE scout in to check for immediate danger, but not to engage further threats. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#90We need to head back to town, and turn in the heads of Red Hatchet (bringing the beard too) as well as the heads of BOTH flinds. This could net us some credit with the local authorities, as well as some more GP if there is a reward. we could re-equip, see if Ganse has the equivalent of an arms and armor shop, or a place to pick up some healing potions. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#91None of us can see in the dark, so any scout would have to carry a light source. The probability his going unnoticed is low.
I recommend that we retreat to a safe location with good lines of sight and maintain a cold camp there. Something like a thicket, where the brush will hide us and allow us some shelter against the storm. In the morning, rested and with a full spell loadout, we can complete the exploration of the caverns before returning to town to refit. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#92While we're in town, I would like to see some of our cash used to pick up decent armor for Talia (at least Studded Leather). I could use a cloak and a shield. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#94I cant wait to roll on the old school table of familiars! :P
what is your alignment btw? (need to know for familiar)
spell ritual GM post coming up shortly! -
Re: Back in the Day...
#95Can't find a buyer? We could make this could work for us...
"Thou Clay-Brained Caitiff! Reveal to us what we demand of thee, or thou shalt face the Accursed Codpiece of Red Hatchet!"
"Nooooo! Surely you could not be so cruel!"
"Fash me no further, thou miscreant, for my patience is at an ebb! Thy coddes shall soon ebb as well, I warrant!"
"I'll tell you anything! Just spare my... coddes!" -
Re: Back in the Day...
#96We have a need for a party treasurer. Since I'm already keeping track of XP, I might as well keep track of that. I would be very grateful if someone could post a total of what we currently have, stuff and gold. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#971 scroll
1 magic opal
2 fingers and a toe
The sickle used to gut the poor gnoll
1 flindbar
Rope
2 Masterwork Axes
30 gp (bounty)
37 gp (sales)
(67 gp total)
I think that's all. If I'm missing any loot tell me. And after this either tell me somehow or pm me and I'll post personal equipment up in this fancy R&R chart. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#98Domo.
And actually, this seems like a good place to post my shopping list.
Some studded leather armor; I think that won't give me a dex penalty
Some candles and a couple of torches
Chalk
First aid supplies
We should probably also get some camping gear. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#99Yeah, ok, I'll add my list here, whether or not we can afford it :D
Some new boots! One of the old ones are a little bit drafty :(
A couple 'o torches
A couple 'o Iron spikes (Yay!)
Restocking several days of basic rations
A decent wood-carving dagger
A couple small leather belt pouches (To hold broken glass shards in)
A sharp needle and some good, strong thread (With which his first use will be sewing up the holes in his left leather glove!)
Thatt'le do for now. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#100Better than torches, let's get a lantern or two.
A couple pairs of manacles, to restrain unruly brigands.
A buckler might be nice. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#101for right now, stick with the torches, as we can't afford a lantern or two and still pick up armor and other supplies we need. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#102Updated XP totals, now that we have sold some of our lootz.
Ria Hawk - 414
Scrasamax - 389
Shadoweagle - 389
Dozus - 414
Wulfhere - 414
Pariah - 414
Chaosmark - 205

Re: Back in the Day...
#103The results of our spending in town:
As a party, we spent 12 gp on various expenses while in town. This paid for two days of low quality food and accommodations and replaced minor consumables such as crossbow bolts, minor repairs to armor and mundane weapons, torches, etc.
From the caravanserai in town, each of us gets:
1 Waterskin
1 Warm Cloak or Bedroll (whichever you prefer)
and 6 days' dried rations
Total cost for six people: 31 gp, 15 sp
Moruz gets:
1 pair Soft, Comfy Boots (He's getting decadent already!)
Needle and thread
2 Large Belt Pouches
Dagger
5 Iron Spikes
5 Torches
Total: 6 gp, 12 sp
Talia gets:
Studded Leather Armor (in the style favored in the Capitol these days)
3 Candles
Chalk
50’ rope
Total: 15 gp, 7 sp
Aerex gets:
4 pairs rusty old manacles (a donation from the guards he impressed)
Wooden Buckler
Total: 1 gp
Total: 66 gp, 14 sp
(Revised and detailed on Oct 3) -
Re: Back in the Day...
#104Glad Vee didn't want anything. :? -
Re: Back in the Day...
#105There's still money to buy stuff. Vee could be outfitted with what we've got left, which is plenty.
But I do have to ask, who put Wulf in charge of purchasing? -
Re: Back in the Day...
#106I was just trying to ensure that Talia got some armor. What items do you guys need? If you need something, speak up.
What do you have in mind?
Nobody's character was described as having rations or water and only a couple had foul-weather gear.
Normally, I say divide the treasure fairly and let each person deal with their own share. With the limited resources we had, I figured that it would be wiser to pool resources this once. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#107Any chance we can settle on equipment and get going? :P
I cant wait to get you folks back out of town!
-
Re: Back in the Day...
#108Hail Mary full of grace
Allow our rouge to leave this place
Also Mother please don't let it be
That our to-holy cleric might see
The things that are best done by night
Lest there be a town-slaugtering fight. -

Re: Back in the Day...
#112SOooo... When do we start the next chapter: Doom in the Drunk Tank!
St. Senren is suggesting to me that we'd better get out of town quick. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#113Random Thoughts
--speaking of next chapter, I see Chapter I going another two weeks of real time approximately...maybe less. Then you can rest, recharge the ole' RP battery, and LEVEL UP (yeah baby!)
--so lets buckle down and go go go!!
--Can someone make a single OOC post with everyones HP's and AC? (thank you)
--welcome valadaar!
--I am off to get you to the cave!! (ETA 45 minutes)
--Also, see Scras' super-linked Back In the Day tinkering on main site! new features! (thanks Scras)
--I feel I must make a sub about The Accursed Codde-Piece of Red Hatchet *sigh* (and add it to the BitD Codex)
--Vee gets *25 bonus XP* for this: (OOC - Moved us back to the Inn, lets FF through sleeping and get on to the cave again, I wants me more XP and gold!)
-
Re: Back in the Day...
#114read the new post, and don't know what to add at this point so I will drop some standing orders for Vee so the game doesnt bog down waiting for me tonight.
Vee is feeling guilty for costing the party the 6GP and is going to be gung-ho for getting some more treasure, and will likely volunteer to scout ahead/lead going into the cave. if he ends up with a torch he will carry his whip to disarm/entangle foes if encountered, if torchless he will scout ahead with crossbow ready. Discretion is the better part of valor, so he will rather find stuff and then report back than kick in a door or jump over a ledge and start shooting. Otherwise Vee will hang close with Moruz and Aethelstan.

Re: Back in the Day...
#115*slightly modified old school home-brew version*
Name: ?
Race: Lizard (Plumed Basilisk)
Occupation: Dujek's Familiar
HD: 2
HP: 8 (packs a lotta hp in that seven inch frame!)
AC: 7 (fast bugger!)
Abilities: none that special. It can bite for 1 point of damage if it "strikes". Limited, rudimentary telepathy (with Dujek only). It gets 2 hp's for every level you gain.
Abilities granted you:
--+1 to hide check
--+1 to AC.
--'Swimming' skill added to your puny stable of skills
--You can run on/across small bodies of water. This is not exactly like "walk on water". You have to move fast, skimming the surface. It lasts 10-15 seconds a pop. Usable once per day.
--You cast spells as a mage one level higher than you are, for purposes of range, effect, distances, etc.
you get one permanent hit point. (only once..initially)
--Once you achieve third level, you can cast "touch-attack" spells via your lizard!
--*Danger* if it dies, you automatically lose 4 hp's. At this level, (you had 3, now you have 4), that would mean you die. At second level, if it dies, you lose 6 hp's. 3rd? 8..and so on. You would obviously lose all other benefits, and furthermore, The Lizard King would be unhappy with you.
--He dislikes the cold. He enjoys being warm. He likes snacking on fruit. Keep him happy. Good luck!
-
Re: Back in the Day...
#116Okay, here's the suggested attack plan:
We split up and explore the caves carefully. Aerex and Talia will explore the south tunnel, and Vee and Moruz will explore the north. Both rogues should move in first, Moving Silently and Hiding in Shadows. If the opportunity to strike occurs, the warriors will charge and the rogues Backstab.
If either team gets overwhelmed... fall back to the mouth of the cave? Unless anyone has a better idea.
Aeth will go with whichever team has lower HP (someone want to figure that real quick? :D)
Dujek can go grab his lizard and come back when able. Tristan will return whenever he's able.
Thoughts? -
Re: Back in the Day...
#117Talia HP: 8 AC: 3 (studded leather, -4 dex...boom!)
Moruz HP: 9 AC: 3 (see above..substitute shards for studs)
Dujek HP: 4 AC: 8
Aerex HP: AC:
Aethesltan HP: 8 AC: 7
Vee HP: 5 AC: 7
help me folks
-
Re: Back in the Day...
#118Aethelstan has 8 hp.
-
Re: Back in the Day...
#119Okay folks, sorry for my absence. Grandmother finally died, had to go down to the funeral. I just got back today, and I'll try to catch up as best as possible. The next few days are hectic for me though, so my RPing will come whenever it gets the chance.
Once again, sorry for the absence. -
Re: Back in the Day...
#120We understand, CM. You have our earnest sympathy in this time of your family's loss. First things first: It's only a game.
