Re: Admin Chatter
#801So now that the villains quest is in the books, are we going to leave the banner up?
Are we going to have a banner for the next quest, because I rather liked it, actually ;) -
Re: Admin Chatter
#802What does everyone think of a 'Steampunk Quest'? Ourobouros suggested it somewhere.
Anyone have any nifty Halloween ideas? (site-related, i mean) -
Re: Admin Chatter
#803I like that idea - buts lets close the current one correctly first.
What is involved in doing so? Is there something I could do?
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#804You could congratulate the winner(s) in the thread, thus closing it out, but I think Strolen makes the main site announcement thingy. Not sure. Its been a while. :) -
Re: Admin Chatter
#805Yes, that's how it works. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#806Crap, I meant to do this last weekend. See if I can flake it together tonight.
Let me know what the next one will be so I can make another quick banner! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#807I like the steampunk one - I have an idea in mind for my sub already :P
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#808Somebody make the call quick so we can start the quest on Monday before I leave on my 2wk vacation.
Updating winner data now. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#809Announcements and XP updates and winner comments are complete. Ready to discuss the next quest. If you want another banner, I will need it in the next couple days.
You guys rock. Thanks for keeping the site going, as always!!
I am working on v3.0 so it is currently broken. They updated the forum so it screwed up the login scripts. Should have that fixed by the weekend. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#810Weekend it is then! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#811Okay, the website is kinda down.
But more importantly, the new Quest has according to its poster already begun! Update requested! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#812Did the site fix itself?
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#813Sorry, it's the readpostplay.com that is down. :) -
Re: Admin Chatter
#814readpostplay.com is down for the count. Caught be me mid-auth update but ran out of time. Have to rewrite the authentication on the main site to match the updated smf forum. Worth the time, just took too much! Won't be back up till after 13 Nov unfortunately. I am taking a holiday. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#815Time is never where you need it when you need it.
Been base exercises, family visiting Thanksgiving, and I have about 10 days till I am off to Iraq.
I am bringing ultraedit an some creativity. No guarantees on editing readpostplay to get working (although just having it working again would be nice) but I do plan on using some time putting in some submissions. Figure I could use some of my time that way anyway.
So will continue to be scarce to nonexistant for a couple weeks until I get settled then will try and get involved!!! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#816Talk 'bout time.
My work is sucking the life out of me... well not all of it, but creativity definitively suffers. Such is the life of the moment.
---
Anyway, be careful in that Iraq of yours. Your army seems to be ill equipped to handle fourth generation warfare. There are also scenarios, not necessarily probable, that indicate the possibility of losing in classical sense.
So, be careful. Get back in one functional piece. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#817Recently in the chatroom:
12:00 am: whoa, did the Moderated Freeform and Freeform Roleplaying boards get swapped around?
12:00 am: something looks funny
12:01 am: Hmm, I must recharge the hypnotic enhancers, the inmates start to notice the Matrix...
12:01 am: ...oh, did I say it out loud?
12:01 am: wait...
12:02 am: yes, you did
12:02 am: Nothing to see there, move along citizen.
12:02 am: I suppose you'll just have to neutralize me now
12:03 am: I SAW!!!
12:03 am: I SAW THE TRUTH!
12:03 am: Chaosmark, say goodbye to Pieh... he must go now.
12:03 am: I GLIMPSED IT THROUGH A WINDOW!
12:03 am: *closes the window*
12:04 am: Ciao
12:04 am: THERE'S ANOTHER WORLD OUT THERE- BEYOND WHAT WE- *_*
12:04 am: puts on sunglasses to avoid de-lifification.
12:04 am: Heya manfred and Chaosmark
12:04 am: what's up?
12:05 am: Hallo Pieh.
12:05 am: Isn't the weather wonderful?
12:05 am: Heyla. *quickly hides his MIB memory-flasher*
12:06 am: weather, yes..I like weather
12:06 am: Perhaps you should create a new submission about weather?
12:06 am: And pie... you like pie.
12:06 am: perhaps i should
12:06 am: Yes, that too.
:D -
Re: Admin Chatter
#818New idea, having watched Cheka HoH 5 things in 5 minutes.
Do we really need more than 1 HoH per day? The high-level types, Moon, Scras, manfred, etc...These folks don't need multiple HoH's, do you fellas?
Can we just make a max 1 HoH/day for everyone? (read: Cheka). Or even 1/week (or maybe 2/week). I mean, most high-levelers here are careful with their HoH boons anyway, using them wisely.
Lets make HoH's truly special. Just throwing it out there. (Again) -
Re: Admin Chatter
#819It's rare that I HoH something, let alone the 3 a day that I currently can.
I think I would like a larger limit on overall HoH rather than the 72 hour delay.
Too bad there isn't some way we could make the HoH recharge time based off of how often you use it. If you HoH to the limit every single day, your HoH recharge time could keep getting longer and longer until a certain point is reached. If you never use your HoH, it would regenerate quickly. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#820Lower the number of HoHs available. Problem solved without weird temporal distorting mechanisms. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#821so, for anywhere who might not have noticed....
tanned67 joined site and posted in Greetings Traveller some nonsense about his rope fetish.
Then, tanned67 actually made a pervy sub about ropes, and tanlines, and how he loves to be tied up..blah,blah,blah
Wulf and I both left comments about this not being the sort of stuff we want here at Strolens. I then went to challenge the sub, but noticed it was already challenged. So, I voted on 'Removal'.
And I guess it worked. Sub removed.
Just FYI... -
Re: Admin Chatter
#822Only takes 3 to get it tossed.
Wulf 1
Scras 2
Muro 3 -
Re: Admin Chatter
#823What do you all have against bondage people?
Anyway.
The 'more sorcery, less bondage ' motto is a good one. Let's hope he'll get what kind of fantasy are we here into. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#824Happy administrative Christmas, everyone!
We are still here, ready to take on the next year. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#825Hey all, here is a little greeting from Strolen from the dusty, remote lands of iRAQ. I didn't even censor it very much. ;)
I am doing pretty good. Very interesting here. Attached are a few
pictures. The walls and sandbags is the entrance to the room I am
staying in. The other is my "street" before you get to the sandbags.
They call this place Mortaritaville because it is attacked so often
with rockets and mortars. They have all these crazy automated defenses
though so many don't get through and most are so badly aimed they land
around the base vs. in it so while it is pretty dangerous, the chances
of anything actually happening are pretty slim. Everything on base is
surrounded by walls like on the street picture. Having fun though as
far as that goes. Very excited about being able to work on the site so
thanks again for tossing it my way!
(So he continues the work on 3.0. Note the pics for some inspiration.)
I am moving slowly but surely on 3.0. Conquered a ton of bugs, going
to use tinyMCE as a text editor in the submission area. It is neat
because you can size the text portion you write in or make it full
screen then shrink it when you are ready to post. Looks like it has
spell check too (which I am researching today) and I will figure out
autosave on it as well so nobody loses anything anymore. Works good in
Opera too even though I am slowly converting to Firefox.
I figured out a way to do the task pages and get them running. Always
a template issue with those and how to set stuff up. When I get the
content I want I may ask for your help with some opinions.
I spend about an hour a night on the site right before my X-files and
sleep so I am in a groove. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#826His real life sounds like something out of a sub and he is excited about working on the site??? :P
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#827Added the note about linking quest submissions to those that inspired them. Maybe should send a PM or something to those with weird names or summaries, some of them look really odd.
---
Sorry to not be around much, but this last week has been a complete and utter madhouse in my job. Been doing test support for our world-wide customer testing, which was as high-profile as error prone, and of course nothing worked as it was supposed to. Luckily most of the problems were not caused by our project, it still sucked to be derailed by things like creating user accounts. You would thought that in a large international network company this goes easily... well, what you don't do yourself, you won't have, it seems.
I kind of like these inroads into user support, but it gets incredibly taxing if you try to do it right, especially if parts of the needed infrastructure explode around you. Could rant about that for hours. :)
See you around! -
Re: Admin Chatter
#828I dodged the bullet for now, as it requires thinking and subtlety, something I don't do in my job. (Wait, I mean...)
http://www.strolen.com/guild/index.php/topic,4734.0.html
The plagiarism question again. Do we have a standard response to it already? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#829Sent her a PM, saying plagiarism is one of those tricky accusations, blah, blah, but that if she's sure, she may as well out it.
Do we have standard responce? I dunno, but we could probably use one. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#830I wonder if it is the same pair of subs that it was last time? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#831Can someone become "Il Duce Questiato" and do the voting poll thingy for the 30's Quest please? I won't be around for a while. :) -
Re: Admin Chatter
#832Okay, we've got 28 subs or so for the running. What criteria should we use to narrow it down?
We should allow some time for additional votes before we set it down for the top N. I for one have not voted on all of the quest subs, and will try to do a few more.
Suggest Round 1 voting be with the regular votes - any sub with an average of 4 or higher makes it to the finals? Do we require a minimum number of votes to be considered to avoid certain members essentially 'golden ticketing' subs that may not deserve this treatment?
Suggest Minimum 3 votes with an average of 4 or higher to qualify for inclusion in the poll, to be decided 1 week after contest closed for new entries.
By this critera I believe we have 5 contenders currently.
Thoughts?
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#833Well, it seems that all of the 4+ average have already three or more votes, with anything that might change in the week will fulfill the condition anyway... so it is built in. 5 submissions or so seems very comfortable to me.
Make a notice in the quest thread and let the voting begin. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#834True, but to be fair to the newer subs, there should be some time for votes to allow them to qualify, and for older that might have been overlooked.
-
Re: Admin Chatter
#835Of course, I meant the initial voting should be completed... that could also handle a notice.
Anyway, how is everyone doing? It's been quiet in these corners since the crash. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#836What is this, some activity here or something? :D
By the way, when Strolen is not ignoring mortar attacks, he is diligently working on the next version of the Citadel. He asks if it should be possible to add Ideas into Favorites. Anyone's got an opinion on that? -
Re: Admin Chatter
#837It would beat hunting for them later. I'm a 'meh' on that idea though. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#838sure, sounds good. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#839I guess i'm back to finish off Quest poll. Ok, so the finalists are 5 entries with 3 or more votes and 4.0 or higher averages, yes?
Will make poll. -
Re: Admin Chatter
#840See about the final number first; if there's six or something, it wouldn't hurt anyone. The rules are up now, and it could be easily more - there's a second place, too!
