The Devil Of The Mountain
Rumors of gold and more, spoken on the wind draw the greedy to their doom.
Mountains are dangerous places, and Mount Ezrir more then most. The Aerie of the Devil of the Mountain is found here, an Eagle of diabolic origin and nature.
A snipped line here, a dropped rock there, and a hopeless fall ensues. No griffon he, but illusions mask his beak and talons, and he fears naught but magic, fire and silver.
Rumors of gold and more, spoken on the wind draw the greedy to their doom.
A precious bauble, openly shown, and his name spoken with authority may allow audience, but his caution knows few limits.

Update: Killing more then one bird with one stone. Pun intended.

I counted 96... I don't really know how to vote on something like this, if I even should vote. Will probably refrain.

Yep, I came in slightly under. Check here for more background including suggestions on voting: http://strolen.com/viewing/100_Word_Submission

I found I liked him better as soon as I started thinking of him as just a colossal jerk who happen to be a magic bird. As opposed to, say, Bald Eagle Satan.
Otherwise, very good stuff. This devil, though minor, would make for a memorable campaign. Eagles see everything, man! There's a million ways they could mess with you.

I like the open-endedness of this. This devil could be real, or it may just be the superstition of the folk living in the area. It could be a malicious devil in avian form, or it could just be a smart bird!
it could even be a rumor started by a hermit who lives in the mountain and wants to dissuade visitors. He feeds the rumor by snipping the occasional rope... dropping the odd rock... leaving the odd animal corpse around.

Sorta disagree with Shadoweagle - this one is just a bit too open-ended for me. I feel like I would need more details before this would really spark my imagination into something interesting - as is, it's not much more than a horror movie monster.
Maybe 100 Word Submissions just aren't really for me.
It could, I suppose make a pretty solid session for a horror game. In that way, I like it - very less is more.

Update: One devil returning from Hell.

Sweet and artistic, whole mini campaign in 100 words 5/5
