Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#42Final Fantasy X (10)
This is a Japanese console game for the PS2. (Playstation 2)
The game has a nice story, good graphics and waaaaaaaaaay too many battles. *begin a loong rant about the hack'n slash factor of most crpgs* (computer role playing games) -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#43You call Final Fantasy X hack-and-slash?
I'll tell you something- Diablo and Diablo 2 are so hack-and-slash that they aren't even RPGs. -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#44
Basically these games had an equal number of battles, and for me that is too much.
If I want an arcade shoot'em up, I'll buy an arcade game!
Final Fantasy X has major roleplaying elements though, and it has a good story. Diablo just has a carefully scripted action sequence and no roleplaying elements whatsoever.
So of course Diablo is worse than FFX! Alot worse! Diablo is not a rpg.
But when a roleplaying game has a new battle every fifth second, it is too much! Even if it IS a good game. I like the story and I like a good battle as much as the next guy. I do however not like to repeat the same battle a thousand times!
Battles are important, but they are just one of many essential ingredients to create a good rpg. You cannot build a great roleplaying game based upon battles alone. So if people say Diablo is the best rpg ever, then they do not understand roleplaying at all!

Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#45I liked Diablo, but I do not think it is an RPG any more than I think that a piece of pepperoni pizza is an RPG. I always thought of Diablo as a third person shooter, as opposed to the first person shooter game.
I do have to agree that too mauch of many computer games is spent on non-cinematic battles, and is for the sole purpose of Battle Monster:Get experience game aspect.
It would be interesting to see a CRPG that has a training system where you can gain XP through problem solving, or make combat more dangerous/more rewarding, rather than becoming painfully dull. I cant tall haow often a CRPG dissolved into stalking around in an area with 'good monsters' that give better XP until my characters have suitable strength to fight the 'boss' of the area and progress the story.
Sigh. -

Raise Da Roof Fly guy. And Fly away. -

#47What kind of crack do I have to smoke for Rhalam ento erhlem to make sense? :) -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#48T'is not norwegian, that much I can tell you!
Methinks Michael has devised a sinister test to challenge our wits and ingenuity...
Or perhaps t'is a quote from some section of Diablo that neither Scras nor I can remember...
I know for a fact that Michael is an artist... Let us not hope he has fallen asleep amidst his solvents  I dread the possibility that this scribbling may be the result of such an unwholesome slumber!
Pray tell fellow norwegian, shall we chant the verse in Latin and then play the recording backwards at double speed? Is that it? -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#49Ento?
Ishleem e fala unt, ean.
Not crack scras, to make this make sense you would have to drink four barrels of Absinth and shout; I love popcorn and chocolate chicken over and over, again and again for three days and two years. -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#50I would truely love to have a bottle of absinthe, but the stuff is technically still illegal in the US, and getting a bottle via the internet from Europe while legal is painfully expensive. I have looked at several sites that distribute to the US, and a single liter bottle would cost something like $100 to $150. I would like some, but not that damn badly. -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#51wow, way to change to subject -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1

Once upon a time there was a fried chicken dipped in chockolate.
The chicken walken along a path filled with tall fences and unreadeble signs. There he met a boiled egg. The boiled egg was of the green type.
Stuffed with Absinth it was. The elder gods of temptation tempted the cho chicken to claim this egg for his own. The other chickens had laughed and made fun of cho chick for centuries because of his lacking ability to lay eggs of his own. But the egg suspected that something was wrong and
rolled down a hill... -

#54ZZZZAP! -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#55Ratatatatatatatatatatatataat. Bang Bang. You're dead.
I hit you. -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#56So you wish to do battle...this is good, you can never truely know someone until you have fought them. It is unfortunate for you that you have chosen projectile weapons, for I have mastered the Seven Fold Munchkin Art, which means no matter what attack you have, there are seven ways I can defeat it, plus seven ways to counterattack and defeat you, for the virtue of the Seven Fold Munchkin art is that each attacking kata is unblockable, cannot be dodged, and always inflicts maximum damage.
So how do you want to die?
::Dressed all in angst-y black robes over heavy plate armor made of a god that was defeated and soul-forged into armor, carrying a sword roughly the size of a telephone pole:: -

#57Ye Gods! It is the feared Death Munchkin! -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#58*Michael hides behind a rock with his plastic toy gun.
Bam Bam, I hit you. -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#59The two Bam's from the crouching Norwegian's gun are folded into the dark clothe of the Death Munchkins really really cool coat, but in a moment there is a brillant flash, and the Death Munchkin extends a flattened palm, extruding two horrifying bolts of flaming black fire-ice-magma, demolishing the boulder.
"Haha, you have felt the first path of the Seven Fold Munchkin Warrior...I'm Rubber, Youre Glue Prana of Power. Are you ready for more?" -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#60Suddenly, the SSVEGETA1!!111! Megatron Munchkin Master leaps onto the scene. His hair turns golden and he powers up for nine hours, shouting "URAAAAAAAGH!" while all the others say: "I've never seen such a high power level!" -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#61Not to be outdone, the Death Muchkin responds in kind, hair becoming ultra-bright electric platinum silver, a corona of swirling power building around him as he powers up for 20 episodes, all accompanied by an incessant internal monolog of all the battles he has ever fought seen in flashback, showing each agonizing victory, the end of each army of opponents, demons, vampire lords, Lesser and medium gods, but only because the most powerful gods dont dare offend the might death munchkin.
Turns into Godzilla, and breaths thermonuclear fire on all present. -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#62"Only through peacful means, can a conflict truly be won," Magus begins to say, "And that is why i can never win."
He then begins to cast Magus's Magneficent Coolant on all of his targets, and they become very, very, cold.
PS: check -

Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#64SS-Godzilla form Death Munchkin is immune to cold based magics, as the Death Munchkin is immune to all magics.
In a dramatic roar...
"LETS PLAY PUNT-A-MONK!" -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#65The Ancient Gamer transforms into "Super-Daddy" and picks up the unruly little children. Then he puts SS-Godzilla, Toygun Mike, Cool Magus and the High Level Penguin in their respective cradles while singing the lullaby song of ultimate stasis. -

#66damn him and his munchkin negating powers -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#67Someday, I will be awakened! -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#68the Death Munckin lies dead and dreaming of the day when by mortal magics he is again awakened, when the stars are right to rise from his dread crib of Ikea, from whence he will raise black temples to his own worship, and to that the crawling chaos...Captain Cthulhu! -
Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#69With a frown of intense disapproval, the Ancient Gamer notices the one who got away. Greccio seemed to be immune to his soothing lullaby :o -

Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 1
#80Important Role Playing attributes
Hit Stuff Hard - the ability to hit things hard
Run Real Fast - the ability to run fast
Take it Like a Man - directly opposed to Hit Stuff Hard
Look Cool in Shades - ability to look cool
Play Well with Others - ability to deal with NPCs
Figure Things out - ability to solve DM puzzles
The Real gamer knows that Hit Stuff Hard, and Look Cool in Shades are the MOST important traits to have, followed closely by Take It Like a Man, and Run Real Fast. Play Well With Others is a waste of points that can be better spent on Hit Real Hard, or on getting better equipment. Figure Things Out isnt needed since either someone else will take it, or the DM in a fit will give the answer. Remember, when in doubt, hit said puzzle with Warhammer of Disruption or accidentally knock over a cup of orange soda, and sneak a peak at the information while DM rushes to get paper towels.
If that doest work, simply start rolling dice until either a success is scored, or the DM trys to take the dice away. MINE, MY DICE! Hit the DM with little plastic figurine of dwarf holding the Warhammer of Disruption.
This coffee is so good, I think I should be shooting up with it instead of drinking it. It so totally raises my Look Cool in Shades skill.
