@moon- I totaly get where your coming from. Some authors are just not for everybody- I pride my work(in short stories) as being quirky plus there might be a machismo thing that I'm not seeing-this seems very poss in this case, I am truly greatful for your input, Thanx Again!!!!!

Why is the plan to delete submissions from the main site to add them in turn to the Strolenati ePub?? Bizarre.
  3. Re: Weekly progress log

@Muro: well, Val said the pulp fiction epub should have all new content i.e. content not on the Citadel (the logic being that if it isn't, people have no incentive to buy it given that they could register for free as a Strolenati and get access that way, that's what I think anyway, to be honest, not sure how we ever reached consensus on that point but we did) and that's the way we went about it. I was against it at the start cos it means a lot of work which will discourage input but then I somehow convinced myself with the above logic.

Keep in mind, i did/do not consider content previously published as 'original'.  I meant, very specifically, newly written material for the epub.

Taking material down is about the least desirable outcome I can imagine, though I fully support an Authors right to do so.

That said, there is precendence for republishing in Anthologies, so my position on republishing has softened.

And that said, from the Amazon page, it would seem that posting on Strolens is not a problem:

"We will not accept content that is freely available on the web unless you are the copyright owner of that content."

Since you are, indeed, the copyright holder of your content on strolens, you are fine.

I guess that leaves the potential of folks not buying the epub because some of the content is 'republished' material.  Frankly, I find that possibility remote.

    Three poems about were wolves
    Who?
    My Mistress
    an
    The Taste of Fear
I wrote them as poss opening in theme
@axle- glanced at Amazon doc you put up, looks fine, no questions or concerns

I belive axle said he wanted to open with a poem, I suggest one of the new werewolf poems as they are in theme. alternatly we could lead with One Arrow as I feel it is amung the stronger efforts( I would be willing to alter it SLIGHTLY to make it fit theme), I also like The Vision but I'm not sure the tone is right> its a little too upbeat if you ask me. I think the opening is critical to set the tone of the work so these are just my suggestions, needs CAREFULL consideration.I think Compleat agreement from axle and moon are nessicary on this, not sure my opinion matters so much(as previusly stated> Im poor judge of own work)
  12. Re: Weekly progress log

@Aramax, agreed that the Vision isn't right for opening. I like it but it just doesn't fit. If you ask me which of the 3 specifically written for the opening I prefer, my personal vote is The Taste of Fear. I might be locked in already but I seriously think My Mistress is perfect for the Lady down the Hall. Who? conjures the story of some man who is put upon but is kept in inactivity by his own internal fears or something (for me anyway). So that leaves this Taste of Fear poem which touches upon the danger of a werewolf if we go with my interpretation that the beast in the poem refers to an urge to kill.

@Axle, are you comfortable to start chatting about selection although you said you wanted at least 5 stories and now there's just 5 so if you're not willing to go less, then the only selection is for poems. I will read over the 5 again this week.

I re-named Taste to "'Perspective of The Wolf" per moon and I both disliking original title."Wolf is prob my third choice for opening with Mistress and a slightly re-witten Arrow as the first two. Only reason Arrow not first for me is I really dont want to alter it to fit theme(I would however DO it).  Only other poem I def want in is Vision. Other than this I'd going to leave the rest of poem selection to you 2.

@moon- Dont let axle put them ALL in. I want anything too weak OUT, do not feel that we need to "save " any for the future, the work on the poetry has been very easy and Ive got at least a dozon active ideas popping around.

@axle - moon and I have been chatting and we want to propose a longer timelime for launch. We would like 1/15/16 to be the drop dead end of "new"material and 2/14/16 the absolute finished end to all editing, proof reading and re-writing.She wants longer lead time on proofreading and selection and I finally have inspiration on a werewolf story, I'd also like to go over all the poems,I want to especially make sure I have all my odd capitalization the way I want it in them. I LOATHE the editing process and would like the add'l time.Pretty Please!?!

How about The Vison as the closing poem it is not on shapeshifter but I could work it in cool

Well, we both agree that it's one of the 'better' ones in terms of effect. btw, Axle replied to my PM and I told him about the (tentative)schedule we set. I'm now working on a short story (

If ypu want to chat about your story I could be up in the very early AM(EST)through the weekend

Yesterday I realised that my Kalimon is too complex (it doesn't have straightforward conflict but hidden conflict which will be hell to write for me and I don't want to start another attempt that I will abandon before the deadline) so I'm ditching it. Today, I'm basically pulling my hair out and getting a bit insane in the attempt to find a new idea. Now I've decided that if I can't come up with something decent by the weekend, I'm just gonna write a cheesy Chinese fantasy story based on folklore and whatever my imagination dredges up. It will add to the variety of stories for the shapeshifter issue if nothing else. Then again, I'm still pro-some-selection-for-the-stories even if it's just 5 of 6.

I was thinking about running the "Long Kill " as a multi part story running through the firrst three issues(ambitious arnt I) I feel that we will need to do at least three issues to develop a following and spurring sales on all three. Only hint of that Id like to see in currant book is to be continued added to the end of afore mentioned story. Thoughts?

I'm not averse to this idea. In fact, I quite like connected stories within a short story collection, as a reader.

First draft of colab with moon is up-Take It Away Moon!
Heavy re-write of Lady mostly to ending and adding axle stuff

Uploaded basic format document of the epub.  I have a kindle previewer and an HTML document as well, but the Kindle format is pretty linear.  I will put the author page at the end, table of contents and a brief forward.

Can you move the drafts and the finals into different folders? There are multiple versions of final and not sure if I am supposed to read the "final" or the "final V#"

Apparently I did this sometime yesterday before I saw this post go up. Now everything marked as final that isn't in a folder are the stories ready for public eyes. But that's not what you mean. I see now that the naming of these files were confusing. They came about cos single author stories have become collabs over time and the versioning was info for the authors but end up being confusing to readers like you. I've renamed files now so that the versioning is now uniformly at the end of the file name. That should clear things up.

Read the lady down the hall story. Liked it. Oh wizards and their disturbing perversions.
  30. Re: Weekly progress log

Admin side: opened up new threads to collect feedback on each existing story; renamed files to avoid confusion of readers.

    Story side:
done with draft 2 of Labour of an Empress and released as available for public consumption

thought up a new story with hardcore Chinese elements and in my Dragon Empire setting

    Proof-reading:
On hold at the moment cos want to concentrate on new story but might still be ad hoc when I feel like it.

  33. Re: Weekly progress log

    #113
Axle, can we move editing and revision back a month or two? We're just getting some feedback outside the circle of 3 and I want to get more pair of eyes on our stories. Currently, the only story I can say is really really ready to be published for public eyes is your story 1. The rest I'm too knee-deep in them in terms of proof-reading duty to decide on their merits. I need some time to step back from them if I'm to be included in the process of selection of stories. I'm going to revive the selection thread now.
  34. Re: Weekly progress log

    #114
You have had months already, eventually somebody has to draw a line,  is two more months gonna give you the ability to do stuff that you haven't done in six?
  35. Re: Weekly progress log

    #115
Months of solo editing though. I want the additional two months for more pairs of eyes to see our work so that we could revise and improve. Currently, the setup we have is that each of us has each other to comment on our work and Bob have us two but that is a very narrow set of lens to test the stories through. As I said in the selection thread that I've revived, I want to put out high quality work out there, not dumping low quality pieces on unsuspecting readers.

Like you said, we need to draw a line somewhere eventually but we didn't at the start and now the deadline is being dropped down in one mighty fist. It's okay and fair for story submissions but I don't want a rush for editing and don't think it's fair to apply the same thing for editing. The next thing I was going to suggest after the negotiation of more leeway for editing is for a mass PM to be sent to everyone added to the Google drive about the deadline we have in place for editing. Let me know what you think.
  36. Re: Weekly progress log

    #116
I think the need for consensus and affirmation and the compulsion to grade and rank things undermines creative risk.  To self publish I think you need to have either some confidence in your own work or willingness to gamble on things on which you are uncertain.  If you want to get more eyes on your work than you can get more eyes on your work once it is finished.  You only want to put high quality work out than write something that you believe is high quality. This is supposed to be pulpy and fun, but also another medium for writing.  I want you, and everyone else, to stop finding reasons to delay this.
  37. Re: Weekly progress log

For random gazes cast there, consensus now has been reached that deadline for editing and revision will be moved to 1 March.

The state of the project as Bob Sees It>>>>>

Poem Selection>>>> Very happy with were Moon and I are on this, Moon can take it from here axle(your input is welcome of course) Im pretty sure that only editing needs doing at this point. Weve got a solid start on a list

Lady>>>>> With the old version restored, I felt it was done, final editing may comence.

Grey>>>>> I need to go over with fine toothed comb but am generally satisfiedwith it,

Old Moon colab>>>>>>> I need to give it a glance and see if there are any MINOR tweaks Id like done

New Moon(lol) work>>>>>Exactly what are you looking for on this from me? Will read outline and make suggestions at this point.

    I think thats everything

I decided to make the new story a two-part series mainly driven by the fact that I had a hunch that there's sth missing (events skipped over) b/w scene 2 and 3 that I planned. Bob didn't see a problem from the outline but I don't know. So first part of the series will cut off at scene 2. This gives me an excuse of putting more time into thinking about addressing this hunch of mine AND also prevents me from ditching this story cos I haven't worked out this hunch properly. Okay, back to writing now, no more distractions. I WILL DELIVER THE FIRST PART BEFORE DEADLINE!
