V2 and V3 of Faith is up,V2 = Tried to 'magnify' what was already there first. V3+ went with axles sug. of 'Kill them all'

Personally, I prefer V2 the magnifying. V3 changed the ending but for me personally it doesn't add more in terms of drawing me into the poem.

I am back to FT hrs plus just taking up tutorial duty so won't be doing much except on the train. Nevertheless I got scene 2 more or less down pat in skeleton form. For the rest of this week, I'll probably be moving onto the creating the skeleton for scene 3. I was writing but then halfway I got stuck so now I'm in skeleton-creation mode. From what little experience I had in writing a story, once I have a skeleton down on the page, my acutal writing is much faster cos I already know more or less the direction of how things go.

Scene 3 wrting ended up being more smooth than scene 2 even though I had less idea about how it would be like from the planning stage- I got down 2 paragraphs of actual writing during the morning train trip yesterday and today as opposed to story skeleton which I thought I would be writing down. Only partially update the Google doc though, will get to it tonight or tmr morning.

Not expecting much to be done over the weekend, Google drive pretty much up to date, got a little block after what I put up currently so reverted back to skeleton mode. My student's assignment is due coming Tues but still not shaping up to a H1 as per her aspirations so not expecting that I will have time to write much. In fact, I should really be preparing for a phone discussion with her in 1 hr and a half from now.

Read the  notes, and I am excited about the story, left some idea on the page regarding setting and stuff, but don't ruin the ending for me!!

    The Lady down the Hall.
setting is going to be dark fantasy / Cthulhu. Going to be using Jack Vance's Magic system of memorization from the Dying Earth series(It's what D&D magic is based on) The story will be set in my Canaled, vermin and thieve filled city of Mysantia. Events take place on an elder god high holy night and story only covers a couple of hours

I gonna write a new story. While my current story has shapeshifters in it, it isn't about shapeshifters.

Hmmm... Axle you troublemaker (just kidding), with your suggestion, it greatly complicates the plot! I'm now getting pics of the Shaman and Whitestill running off to join the herd and leaving the humans all on one side but how the hell is that a resolution? Anyway, as I said, I shall chew over your suggestion and then see what comes up.

Started story on google, couldn't get a good feel on openning so I did a little of the middle-ish
  13. Re: Weekly progress log

    #53
I think I've got a kick *&^ opening to make you really HATE the main character!
  14. Re: Weekly progress log

    #54
Don't worry, Aramax, just write at this stage, all writing is apparently re-writing. Not sure whether you feel good or bad about your intro making readers hating the main char but I would say this is an okay thing to happen not a little unconventional.

This week has been drama week for me but this morn I got back into writing on the train trip in and I've taken on board Axle's suggestion in a partial but significant way. I'm back to actual writing as opposed to skeleton form writing, for scene 2 (which is a jump backwards since I was writing skeleton for scene 3 for those following this thread) but I feel that's okay cos drama week (i.e. this whole week) has cooled me down enough from scene 3.

The Lady Down the Hall, First draft is done  :cthulhu:
  17. Re: Weekly progress log

Very happy with my fixing story based on Moonlake's suggestions, The Lady down the hall is prob 90% done. Am consifering second story
)trying for a little more conventional with more likeable characters and a happy ending)

    1 conventional werewolf mystery

    2 Indian Jones adventure

but prob will do shapeshifting Mage duel(The shapeshifter theme would be all over this)
  18. Re: Weekly progress log

decided on mage dual notes up. I know I just did a story about a mage but climactic fight will be shapeshift-orama story buliding up to ultra actioning ending, completely dif tone than "Lady"

I moved your climax/spoiler notes into the behind the scenes folder cos you said Axle didn't want to see it, Aramax.

So a week had gone by and I've only written up 100+ words on scene 2, been having a week of doctor appointments over a scare. Then lethargy set in and a general disenchantment with this writer group ala style of Axle and Aramax at one point and a whole rehash of where to go for a career again (it's a long story but the short of it is that I broke away from a phD and became unemployed but then I got pulled back into academic research as a casual and now I'm offered a 2nd chance at 2 different phDs. No coercion or anything, just for-my-information type of offers. I'm.. well, a little tempted but also very apprehensive of stepping in again given what I found from my last experience but it's a great pot of uncertainty soup at the moment, thinking I will construct a list of pros and cons and generally let time sort it out). So this latest fact is the main hold-up cos it's uncertainty and whenever I have uncertainty in my life, it eats up my brain.

But I will definitely finish this story and next week, again have 2 doctor appointments but I will keep working. Any progress, no matter how miniscule, is still progress.

Added first  complete draft of a new shapeshifter story.

Not much progress for this week again but slightly more than last week. Got the benefit of a long weekend cos new public holiday just announced for AFL (Australian football for anyone not familiar with the term) Grand Final for Friday but spent that on beauty, packing and leisure. And then a single detail of the plot came up that I need to iron out so currently back to brainstorming mode. Still in scene 2 btw and I got up to mid-point of this story. Then of course I had previously got ahead to write a bit of scene 3 so I'm a little more than half way done on this story. But now I've pretty much stopped planning/speculating the actual completion date of this story, I'm just plodding along and will finish when I finish.

Literally zero progress made by myself but chat with Muro in the shoutbox came to the rescue so that I moved ahead slightly on the skeleton mode but caveat is that I now want to take a detour to design a carnivore rhino native to a desert whose females make trips to the Steppe in search of delicate meat. I'm feeling like inertia has set in for this story. On the positive side, I'll be less than FT engaged starting from next week so hopefully that will give me impetus to write more.

I went over and edited the first scene a little yesterday but I'm not feeling an impetus to write this week. This weekend, I'm thinking of doing something for my student but really I'm just procrastinating. Next week, I get Wed off and long weekend and then from the week after, I'll only be working 2 days a week.

I just got out of the hospital over the weekend(COPD/Bronchitus) came on really, really fast. Not likely to be making any progress for a couple of weeks. also sort of stuck on second story. I def want it to be actiony but only the non-actiony stuff is coming to mind and well formed
  26. Re: Weekly progress log

Again I just edited the first scene a little based on feedback from Longspeak and my whim. Next week, though, I don't have to work for the whole week but hopefully I can pick up on writing again.

Procrastination set in and then I was down with a cold. I've recovered now but I'm still feeling disenchanted with writing. I just enrolled in James Patterson's Masterclass. Will see whether that revives my enthusiasm. Then again, I've got to buy a new speaker now cos it's all video lessons.

It has been six months, that is the standard time I give academic authors.  I will submit the eBook this December unless somebody complains. Formating for Kindle/amazon readers is kind of set deal, but it will be an interesting process either way.  Again test balloon, but right now only aramax and I have 'finished' material.  Curious to see how this goes.

I actually intend to come back to the short story soon but truth be told, I'm still a little stuck in my procrastination mode. Ah well.... go ahead with your plan. As to whether I finish my short story or not, we shall see.....

Sorry I havent finished my short story but life has been rougher than usual(including a week for me in hospital). Muse has fled me. will try and do some work next Monday or tues, but no promises(ill try to try,  as Bart would say)  :Thud:
  31. Re: Weekly progress log

I've now decided to cap my participation in this venture to collaborations, having been really intrigued by the possibility that Aramax mentioned. I mean, I've been re-energised a bit by the writing class that I've taken but my first instinct is for my stalled novel and the short story really just felt like an obligation/prior commitment for me. Also, I felt repeatedly during writing that a short story isn't a form that I take to naturally and also I think the particular story that I'm trying to write is probably too complicated for me and now I'm just really really 'out' of it. So everything considered, this is what I've decided.

aramax, your story is finished,it has a begin and an end and stands alone as complete work.

    Three new poems

Done with the poems but give me a few days with the Shades of Grey. I read it but not in the mood of serious commenting/proof-reading cos I'm back to my novel. I will try to get onto it next week.

added explanation of childs condition to "Grey" will work on fixing The Canal next(I like the memory to much and it is in need of a re-write) I don't think there are any other unaddressed issues with any of the poems other than C"Canal"
  38. Re: Weekly progress log

OK one more new Very short story"The not so sleeping dragon". It just wanted to come out,its another old story that easily adapted to shapeshifter. I know,  I know we are trying to wrap this up......... :Thud:
  39. Re: Weekly progress log

I think your poems stand quite well on their own and even those I don't really like are solid efforts. So far, I find both short stories you wrote hard to relate to personally (not meaning that as a criticism, just stating a personal fact here) but I will be proof-reading it at the very least once I can afford to turn my mind away from my own project.

Ohh.... that sounds like a more conventional fantasy story that I can relate to. Anyway, shall get to them next week. I don't think I have to work again till Jan so there's some leeway for me to devote to creative endeavours (and I'm doing a collab with Muro besides working on my novel).

I added about 4 stanzas to "Canal", I think it is an overall improvement and yes you will find "dragon" a little more.......normal? Conventional?  maybe not.......
