The Shard of Thaeron
A broken shard of mystical powers.
Long ago, it was told that one great wizard tried to use the goddess of magic to wield her godhood. He created a crystal sphere of mystical powers that no one knew about. He tried to steal the goddess's powers to ascertain godhood. And that is where his downfall occured. No one knows exactly what happened to him, although it is thought that he is in hiding, crazy and powerless. Only one piece of that crystal ball was found, this shard.
Magical Properties:
Anyone who touches this sphere sees their doom, and suddenly obtains a curse. This curse depends on the person and their personality and it is totally dependable only on the character himself.

I like the idea, and I like that you've given the item some history, but it doesn't GRAB me! It's a little too much like all those other cursed artefacts you might find: the One Ring for example. There needs to be something a little more to it, something which distinguishes it from the more mundane evil items. Maybe try to flesh out the story with more detail?
ephe!
I'm sorry. It seems too hackneyed to me. Too cliche. A billion other items replicate this exact plot and item, and they're probably more detailed, too.
Thank you for the feedback! I will take that into consideration!
