Suicide Suit

A rare male only Imbrian armor

105 xp 2,312 views

Imbria is well known for being a matriarchy and having been blown up in such a fashion that it rendered the moon uninhabitable. The rare relics and artifacts recovered from Imbria are almost exclusively designed for women or to the benefit of women.

Appearance: The Suicide Suit is a fairly impressive looking suit of light armor. It is a solid moonsteel breastplate, front and back, with attached ringmail sleeves and leggings. The metal is etched and lacquered with intricate patterns and colors, usually in the more sombre shades of green, tan, gold, and black against the silver of the metal. It has a set of leather belts that go with it for carrying weapons and a leather tunic to cover the armor.

Suicide Suits were actually Armor of Redemption and were worn by disgraced and dishonored Imbrian men. The armor would be donned and the soldier in question would very likely die in battle, usually in a fashion that would redeem him and restore his honor post mortem.

Suicide Suits are rarely seen in Imbrian artwork and epics, but when they are, they are frequently paired with power gauntlets (strength boosters) and Battle Boots (sure footed, prevent knockdown)

History: The Imbrian culture had a taboo against suicide. Death was not something to be feared, as they believed deeply in reincarnation and the cyclical nature of the universe, but it was not something to be self-inflicted. Suicide was seen as a cardinal sin, and not only brought dishonor on the person, but often on their entire house. It was at some point in early Imbrian history that the first Armor of Redemption was made. This was given to a dishonored son of a prominent family for the purpose of restoring his honor by a glorious death in battle.

The son went to battle, fought and died fearlessly and was restored full honor and glory. Thus it became that invariably each noble house had a suit of this armor in case one of it's members fell from grace.

At least one Armor of Redemption made it to Earth, likely in the years before Imbria was destroyed. (There is some speculation that the enchantment and other non-moonsteel parts of the armor are actually from Earth, and were traded to the Imbrians centuries and millennia ago.)

Specifics:

Armor of Redemption is a moderate armor, granting good, but not great protection. It fills it's wearer with a sense of courage, valor, and absolute bravery. He cannot be affected by fear, mind or emotion controlling spells, and even has a mild bonus to resisting charms and illusionary magics. The modern term, suicide armor, is used since wearers fairly quickly get themselves killed. They overestimate the strength of the armor, or much more often they forget caution or taking personal care in a fight and get killed. But, that was really the purpose of the armor to begin with.

Today is a good day to die.

The Hall of Honour is your mark on a submission you believe is frick’n awesome — so good you would jump in front of a dragon’s breath to protect the scroll it is written on.

Bestowing HoH also highlights it on the front of the Citadel for about a day, so others see the recognition it earned.

You may bestow HoH on the same submission up to your level (with a short wait between strikes). Five distinct HoH voters raise a work to Golden.

Love this idea. I've had players that are like that without magical help.

Good for the disgraced, or as a *gift* to a rival king who does not know what the armour really is.

It's funny how there's always a way around a hurdle. Feeling depressed? Hah, don't kill yourself! Go seek glory in battle; and here, have this suit - it will protect you!

This is definitely an item which would would create more fun and havoc if the owner does not know it's effects. If a PC gets their hands on it, they will certainly start thinking they can take on those previously unsurmountable odds - even though his companions are ready to flee!

Imbria sounds interesting - I hope you have more from it on the way!

This item seems very much about the familiy then the individual. If it grants courage unearned to its wearer, then the glory gathered in truth belongs to the armor. The wearer will not have redeemed himself in the eyes of gods I expect, but would have done more to seek his end in battle without training wheels:). I am really liking the world being painted by these items, and it is sad that it seems to be a dead one.
