Cloak of the Thieving Hands

'No! I didn't steal those! It was the bleedin' cloak I tell you!'

105 xp 2,424 views

This cloak is of fine, if unremarkable dark cloth with excellent workmanship.

It will attempt to pickpocket strangers at random. It uses shadowy hands that emerge when nobody is looking. This chance increases when the chances of detection are low - pressing crowds or darkness. Any items collected will appear in one of the cloak's pockets. Value of the items is not a concern to it.

The wearer, unless paying close attention, is likely to be as unaware of this thievery as its victims. An aware owner can will the hands to act.

Hall of Honour

for Cloak of the Thieving Hands

The Hall of Honour is your mark on a submission you believe is frick’n awesome — so good you would jump in front of a dragon’s breath to protect the scroll it is written on.

Bestowing HoH also highlights it on the front of the Citadel for about a day, so others see the recognition it earned.

You may bestow HoH on the same submission up to your level (with a short wait between strikes). Five distinct HoH voters raise a work to Golden.

One could find their own pockets populated by something from https://strolen.com/viewing/What_Has_It_Got_in_Its_Pocketses when wearing this cloak.

I actually really like this one. Quirky cloak, and can lead to all kinds of plot twists, unwanted surprises and comedy-of-errors type scenarios.

Funny if some totally honest person brought it.

    This is fun.

    Use it to frame somebody

Use to get extra milk money

Don't use it all, let it use you.

What other magical vestments might we pair this with?

      1. Hat of Sudden Items

Whenever the wearer tips the hat in greeting or salute, out pops whichever last item the cloak's thieving hands stole and 'pocketed', usually leading to embarrassment or worse, for the wearer.

      2. Boots of the Getaway

two additional shadowy boots emerge from this footwear, whenever the cloak's hands steal something. These phantom boots kick the shins of the cloak's latest victim, as hard as possible.

Sorry, I'm just having fun with this :D

so you could direct the actions of the cloak?

could it plant items in the pockets of others than the wearer?

Sure! Perhaps you need to browbeat it to do so. Threatening to leave the cloak on a clothesline on a bright sunny day might cow it.
