Do me a favor? Kindly punch him for his collaboration in popular media's watering-down of the word "history".

    What??!!  :what:

    1. You mean to tell me *people* built the pyramids?
    2. That tiny unidentifiable Mayan statuette, circa 1500 bce,  is *not* definitive proof of ancient astronauts?
    3. The Dogon didnt immigrate from Sirius?

    Don't be a hater lol

You hear about this fracking business? I'm alright with an eon of sorrow as horrors pour forth from inconceivable realms, so long as I can continue to fill up the Hummer three times a week. Drill baby drill!

Guidelines adopted by director Chuck Jones in making Warner Bros.’ Road Runner-Wile E. Coyote cartoons, from Jones’ 1999 memoir Chuck Amuck:[list type=decimal]
The Road Runner cannot harm the Coyote except by going “beep-beep!”
No outside force can harm the Coyote — only his own ineptitude or the failure of the Acme products.
The Coyote could stop anytime — if he were not a fanatic. (Repeat: “A fanatic is one who redoubles his effort when he has forgotten his aim.” — George Santayana)
    No dialogue ever, except “beep-beep!”
The Road Runner must stay on the road — otherwise, logically, he would not be called road runner.
All action must be confined to the natural environment of the two characters — the southwest American desert.
All materials, tools, weapons, or mechanical conveniences must be obtained from the Acme Corporation.
Whenever possible, make gravity the Coyote’s greatest enemy.
The Coyote is always more humiliated than harmed by his failures.

And yet, in spite of all those limitations (or maybe because of?), those two were frickin' funny. Why is cartoon violence so hilarious?

When all else fails. Find an abyss and throw a rock into it. The sound it makes is soooo soothing....if you could hear it over your own screams as the tentacles snap you into their grip.

I looked into the abyss. It had a lot of dark in it.

Then I went and had a piece of pizza and a pint

I lived whole years staring into that abyss. I'm sure I looked away eventually, even though I don't remember doing so.

    Several items:
    1) That thing was hatched out of a friggin' egg. How weird is that?
    2) Who thought of the name "puggle"?
    3) At what age do they turn red, wear high-tops, and develop bad attitudes?

Daughter got a la la loopzy (or whatever) but it has this hair on either side that you can move and adjust in an assortment of ways....an assortment that when extended looks much like the tentacles of Cthulhu coming out of the depths. So I have my daughter calling it her Cthulhu-doll now. Whenever the hair isn't curled, it is in Cthulhu mode.

This morning when she woke up she told me, "Last night mommy put me in bed with Cthulhu."

    Funniest moment of the day!!!!

One of these days, I'd really like to participate in a campaign set in the Megaman X universe, or something extremely similar. GM, player, I'm not sure I really care which.

You know, when I was writing my zombie robots thread, the image I had in my mind was reploids. So I can totally see this.

That said, don't discount regular civilian worker-bots. Their environment and work requirements have the same sort of difficulties as military bots do, which means giving them human forms makes a reasonable amount of sense. And there would be a whole lot more of them than mil-bots.

Oh I concur absolutely, the military robot and military power armor both grew out of civilian robots and civilian power hard suits.

Would anyone even be interested in a Cosmic Era RP?

Would you run an on-line cosmic era RPG?
  30. Re: Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 3

    #870
I would, the setting is certainly large enough that before the game we would need to make some decisions, like all mecha, or a CogNet based game, parapsychic fighting or whatnot, so everyone's character is on the same general page

A Cosmic Era RP would quite interesting, whatever its style.

If you honestly think that you can plagiarize someone else's work and not get caught, you are an idiot. Twenty years ago, you could do it and stand a chance. Today? I've got a nifty little tool called "Google", which excels at finding matching documents from text fragments. So that code you just copied from a tutorial and didn't bother to change at all? Yeah, that was the first hit on my search.

I applaud your audacity and resourcefulness. Laziness is a job requirement for our profession. You should always try to avoid reinventing the wheel. Your job application is still going to the bottom of my trashcan, because the point wasn't to get something I could actually use, it was to show that you could build it on your own.

    Dumbass.

    ...

Does that include shoving it under the remnants of today's lunch? And maybe the addition of lighter fluid? Followed by an invocation for the great and mighty Cthulhu to munch upon said person's intestines?

    Where's my popcorn?

Nah. I don't have a hardcopy anyway. It's just in my metaphorical trashcan. Or was, anyway, until I recycled the electrons into something more useful.

I want to like Game of Thrones and really I should. It has everything in it I like, it has dragons, political intrigue, war, well developed characters, and thanks to HBO no shortage of tits.

But God help me I just don't care about the show.

I loved the first season, but then all the strong characters were axed (some literally) and I all but completely lost interest in the series.

On a related note, I haven't read so much as more than the first 60 pages of the first book, but had the same reaction there as well.

Funny you say that. I watched season 1 three times. First time with rapt attention, couldn't wait till season 2. Second and third watching were with friends playing a drinking game so sort of (a lot) drunk. But we loved it.

I have watched maybe 4 episodes of season 2 and keep meaning to watch them but haven't found the time. Meanwhile I have watched plenty of other TV so time is not an excuse. I am not sure why it doesn't call me but I want to watch it but I don't feel drawn to it if that makes sense.

Books, I have always been meh with them. There are some AWESOME mind numbing scenes, don't get me wrong, but as a complete series there are many that I enjoy much more.

I will watch them, if only for Tyrion and Sansa, but they are not on my priority list for some reason. I find myself watching Criminal Minds instead...which isn't even that great but takes my attention and the kids can watch it.

Anyway, I agree but I don't understand why.

There were so many fascinating characters in the first season, they made me want to watch the series. Kal Drogo and the Dothraki were amazing, and his conquest of Daenrys was captivating. Likewise, the banter and politics between Ned and King Robert drew me in. I like Tyrion, but now it feels like he's all that's left, and lacking strong characters to foil off of, he's less The Imp and more Peter Dinklage and he's playing the same character as he does in other shows I've seen him in, such as Threshold
