Re: A friendly discussion of new members
#81I did have some hope that NCN would change, but his comments about Moon bullying do bother me. Some of his comments can be rough, but in this case:
"Format note: I would of put in bold each section title and given its own line.
Title
Text. Text. Text. Text. Text.
See HTML help on the side bar for help.
The writing is a little dense. The amount of raw data thrown at us is pretty hard to deal with. A bit more description and expanding the text would make it more readable. Not a bad first effort.
My vote will be revised one you make some edits."
This is NOT bullying. I'm actually now happy to see NCN go, if he is indeed going.

#82Gah - am I being to harsh on the new people? Can new people not take any criticism? -

#83Deafening silence is telling me ... yes? -
Re: A friendly discussion of new members
#84I haven't read many of the threads. But....
...from times past we seem to have been pretty harsh on the newbies and some have had enough gall to tell us. :) We go through waves of expecting them to post at the calibre of posts we have from our quality posters. Then we self-assess and think maybe we could have been kinder. Even though we personally think we put on the kid gloves. to the newbies it may still may look harsh to them. Other newbies think we are forcing them to write to our style vs. assessing the true merit of their ideas.
Who knows who is correct. As long as you are polite, try and point out some positives with the negative, then whatever. If they can't handle it maybe this place isn't for them. We do have a really good level of submissions here and I am fine if we lose a couple that aren't so hot. Browse around and see what kind of standards we have here. Most of the submissions here are damn good. More rare are the crap ones. Really, don't come in here posting crap...you will get beaten.
I haven't looked, but we probably need a newbie post for the newbie task page explaining our philosophy and no holds barred sense of what we expect.
Bottom line is, I trust your judgement, go with your opinion but try and be as polite as you can. Members we need, crap we don't.
