An aside on mrcelophane... what is this "Hurt and Heal" game about? It looks like another Cavern of Inane Natter thing, but it may bring some mindless activity into the forum. Anyone has experience with it?

I'm not sure who this guy is, but I'm not expecting anytihng out of him, he doesnt seem to be able to put togther more than 15 words at a time. I do not trusts him precious, deviant purpose he has, yes, yes precious, tricksy...

    ...er

I like Stomphoof. He seems irreverant and goofy. A plus!

Mr. Celophane is peculiar, but lets give him time (I echo Scras' comment so far). He mentioned that he almost started his own site, but then found this one. That comment made him sound awesome, but so far Hurt and Heal and Halo challenge...not bad, but not as interesting as one would expect of someone who days earlier was going to start his own RPG site.

Railus, seems to be like Pieh. He'll be on in mini-spurts a few times a year, though I'll defer to Ria, since she chatted with him.

Bynw, the mysterious Bynw. He doesnt seem to be hanging around though. He may have just joined to post his dungeon. I hope not, he seems intelligent. Lets hope he warms up.

I got a PM from Bynw. Said he is a chatter, not so much forums and such and offered, again, the option to start an IRC. I think he likes the site and likes the idea of being able to host the irc for us and wants to.

I basically said that I don't have time right now to explore new tech but if he (or anybody) came up with a "follow these directions to make it work" type thing, I have no problem putting some stuff up for experimentation.

Lookee, Lookee, what we have wrangled!!!

    8:14 pm: Im a cancer researcher...molecular medicine

Oh, and his imagination is impressive too!

Ouroboros hails form Gottenberg, Sweden, is 32, and has been lurking for years, "sucking", as he puts it, countless inspiration from our subs.

faves over the years you ask? [Attack of the Golems], [Hell of Dry Bones], and [The Turgid Sands of Nesseraum]

Let us welcome this fine upstanding gentleman into the fold!  :P

    Sweet.

I have been eyeing a ouroboros tattoo for years too. If I get anything, it will probably be that. Random injection...

    Influx.

With Spring this year, came new members.

Silveressa. She seems like she's been here for years already. Quite comfortable with the whole setup, quite "familiar" with the ways things work. I'm guessing a long-time lurker, turned to the LIGHT!

Oh, can we move her fiction writing piece to the Forums somewhere though?

Oakwood. Not much yet, but we'll see.

Aramax. This guy sounds like fun! Tooky Bird is borderline pointless, imo, but I'm guessing he has quite a few more tricks up his sleeve for us, with the 345 years of gaming experience under his belt! :)

    Anyone else?
  7. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #47
Her articles are in the Fiction section. Following rules pretty good.

I agree with the rest. I liked the Tooky Bird and am hoping for more fun like that.

    Silveressa rocks!

    Oakwood is promising...I hope.

I have some reservations, and I hope that they are unfounded but I think one of our new members is an old member wearing a new hat.
  9. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

IPs will tell, have you clicked on them in the bottom right of their post to see other usernames that use that IP?

Unless they moved since last time they were here or changed providers I suppose.

    An Error Has Occurred!

You are not allowed to moderate this forum.

Guess I'm not allowed to do that.

    What are you touching. Arrgh!
  12. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #52
Dammit there I go breaking things again. This is like that time when I was chasing my sister through the house with a water hose and knocked over my dad's Elvis Presley Jack Daniels decanter. My mother just kept screaming "WE JUST CANT HAVE NICE THINGS!"

Seriously, just clicked on the IP address on the bottom of a comment of one of the suspect user names. If it is a mimic they are smart enough to cover their IP tags, but not their writing techniques or extensive familiarity with the Citadel.
  13. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #53
As long as they aren't destructive or trying to manipulate the system they can have their fun. Maybe they forgot their last password and changed emails and just figured it would be easier to start a new username? Benefit of the doubt until something awkward happens then we start the diplomatic polite game, no heavy accusations to scare them off.
  14. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    Works for me.
  15. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #55
Daaaang!!! Look at all the new people!! I can't keep up! Awesomeness!

    Just wanted to say that.

  16. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #56
    Yep. Some are truely prolific.
  17. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

I am getting lost again. The light fears me as the bear's heart purrs it intolerable hiss.
  18. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

I would just like to bring something to everyone's attention if i may.

We don't have enough examples like this, so I feel i need to bring it to the fore.

Has anyone realized just HOW much Drackler has improved over the last year or so. If you recall, with subs like he was nearly run off the site with riot acts and unending criticism.

Fortunately he stuck around. Have you SEEN some of his latest work? I'm not saying I'm ready to hand out a Pulitzer, but has anyone noticed the INCREDIBLE improvement?

I was his "aegis" for a while from other's wrath. Can you tell I'm proud of him?! :)

    Go Drackler, go!

There is a lesson here somewhere. Don't scare off the newbies. Sometimes they grow!
  19. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #59
Definately have a point there - he did redo wolfkin recently, immensely better.
  20. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #60
Ahem...  I just want to point out that Tanned37 is fucking hilarious.
  21. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #61
tanned67 seems harmless actually, but way too horny :p

can't wait to see his next sub :D

But that first one apparently irked some of our more wholesome members.
  22. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #62
Never got to see that one.

Curious - we have murder, cannibalism, torture and death, why is sex forbidden?

  23. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #63
It is not forbidden. I hope it is not anyway, my subs can be pervy. :p

To answer the question though, because the sub in question had less than nothing to do with what we do here.

A pervy sub that was somehow related to RPG games (in any way even!), would be ok. A pervy sub about perviness is not the same thing, imo.

    Question: Angryscotsman:

( -1 )  Once again, I find myself confronted with an entry so similar to Warhammer it's shocking. I'm going to assume that you got some inspiration from Games Workshop's magnum opus and leave it at that. Good job, though.

( 0 )  Hmm. Have you ever heard of Warhammer Fantasy battle? People write a lot of fiction for it, and in one of those stories was about a group of sailors going into Chaos territory. One of the beasts was called a Blood Beast. Did you get any inspiration from that? Either way, cool entry.

XP: [  +    -  ]  ( 0 )  Ah, Lord of the Rings references. Awesome. If memory serves, Grond is that battering ram that the orcs were going to use to conquer Minas Tirith by bashing down the main gate. I like what you've done with the old girl! kudos, man!

He seems to be a master of the backhanded compliment.  He has provided good feedback on other subs though.

  25. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #65
After reading them all, I'm not yet convinced those are back-handed compliments. I actually think he means those as actual compliments. He's excited to be here, he's posting, he's commenting (heh), and i guess currently (this may change) he compares everything he reads here, to his own reading experiences. Thats just a hunch on my part. Hard to get a handle on him. And you know, his Discworld-inspired subs are weird, but variety is the spice of life!  :D

He has his influences and he loves them (Discworld,Warhammer, etc.) But it seems to me at least that he genuinely likes being here and reading/posting subs. Not sure.
  26. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #66
At the risk of sounding unfriendly..

Perhaps, but I'm starting to get tired of "Hey you got that from Tolkien/Warhammer/shakespear/the bible/my ass".

Saying a sub is great, and in the next line saying it is unoriginal is a bit disingenuous.

  27. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #67
I still stand by my position of hitting with sticks
  28. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #68
I will stand by my position as well.  I like him, and in fact, I hope we get more members like him! It is so darn refreshing to see comments by people who,

    1. Care about what they are reading
    2. Don't give a crap who you are, or what your "rep" is here
    3. Don't mince words, but just say what they want

    I salut him.

How do you like dem apples?  :P
  29. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #69
I suppose - its a damn sight better then  "A cold people"

    "A "

    Ooops, unfriendly Valadaar again... :P
  30. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #70
Ouroboros is not really a newbie, but his comment on that Cheka's sub is worthy of praise. Talk about constructive criticism!
  31. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #71
    i can only agree!
  32. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #72
Well, it seems like we have a small rush of new members, who are posting quite frequently, which is good.

Now, what I am a little put off with is that there is much less 'polish' on these new subs then I personally prefer.  The new folks who also vote on the new content are basically reinforcing that level of quality, leading there to be more and more half-cooked subs on offer. Some are good - for sure, but the overall level is a bit lacking. I know I perhaps can't talk too much since I haven't posted in ages - largely becuase I don't want to put up stuff half-done.

    Opinions?
  33. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #73
There are new members and I find their lack of polish refreshing. They bring energy and enthusiasm to the site. We can offer them real constructive criticism and watch them grow. Also, not everything can be a 4.5 or better. There has to be the rest that fills out the 2.5-3.5 range as well.
  34. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #74
Fair enough, though punk likes to vote 5.0's on everything :P
  35. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #75
I'm mixed. i agree with you both. Its nice to have some new blood and new ideas, and yes, their subs are mostly meh  :P

But hey, punkcasher seems to have cool ideas, if not execution. I guess that it will come. Or it won't. Whatever. He's not bad. Moonlake seems very passionate and has good ideas. her and Grey have great potential!

Angryscotsman is actually sticking around even after his initial kamikaze attack. Nocontrivedname i find mildly annoying. He/she has joined simply to rant/complain apparently.

    Who else?
  36. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #76
I did find the idea of ones first few subs to be subs on making subs somewhat.. unusual.

Not bad, but unusual. Much better then an assassin or a super-sword.
  37. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #77
It's fresh blood, so let's keep them welcome (and offer advice). When they deliver good ideas, the execution can be a bit sloppier, though it hurts at times.

punk and Moonlake seem both like good newbie material (Grey has been around for some I think, but agreed). Let them grow into the Citadel greatness, that we, lazy slobs, represent. :D
  38. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #78
I must say I like the MoonHunter's repartee on axle's nagging to make things more organized. axlerows goes sharply after well-organized ideas, perhaps he can be tricked into doing some organizing himself. :)
  39. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #79
That is the plan. Hopefully it goes.
  40. Re: A friendly discussion of new members

    #80
And I see the shootout between you two seems to come to an end with something resembling peace... good.

More writing, less of those endless discussions. :)
