Just a small thought on this, many of us use dynamic I.P's so banning by I.P is really not much good given the spammer will likely be back under a new ip without much delay, and some innocent user may gt assigned that banned Ip and wind up locked out of the forums by mistake? (At least until their ISP assigns them a new address which could take anywhere from a day to a month or more.) -

Temporary IP ban still impose the same risk as permanent IP ban, but let us face it: the chance that a secondary Strolenite gets assigned the same IP as a banned user is miniscule to not-bloody-likely. -

#252We had 180 bans dating back to the beginning of time. I dumped most of them. Looking at the ban logs, a couple IPs have came up over the last 3 months or so. Left the last 60 or so.
Took a happy medium. -

Agreed 100%, a temp ban works far better then a perma ban, and fortunately most software has the option of making the IP ban temp or permanent :up:.
