Whiteblade
Created by a near-sighted and night-blind wizard, Whiteblade is incredibly simple, while being incredibly useful to the right person...
Created by a myopic wizard who found it difficult to see without either full sunlight or a roaring fire and multiple lamps blazing brightly, Whiteblade resembles a simple, elegant dirk, with the exception that the weapon - from tip to the end of the tang - is a milky white color. A rough grip of leather is wrapped around the weapon's hilt, to help the owner keep hold of it, as well.
Whiteblade is not really a combat-ready weapon; the same enchantments which imbued the metal with the strange color also rendered it brittle, although it will gradually repair itself over time.
Magical Properties:
Whiteblade has two simple magical functions:
It will correct any natural vision problem - near-sightedness, far-sightedness, astigmatism, cataracts, and the like. The result is perfect 20/20 vision.
Second, it confers the ability to see in the dark to the person carrying it, banishing shadows from their sight. The result of the two powers is the ability to see clearly without any bothersome shadows getting in the way.
The weapon's powers are active as long as it remains in contact with the skin. If used in combat, this can be disconcerting to anyone struck with it, as the blade's magic is placed upon them as well as the wielder for the length of time that it touches them.

Hello, assassin dagger!
The first ability would be pretty useless to those with already clear vision, though it would help sharpen people eyesight, perhaps. The second ability is perfect for assassinations or thievery. An assassin can douse the light in a large hall, plunging it into pitch-black, then run up to the main table, kill the head figure and leave without tripping on anything or bumping into anyone.
A nice dagger. I would have liked a bit more depth on the background, but its all sound as it is.

A character in a game I run is a blind monkthat attacks by sound, so this is an excellent idea for me to try.
I hadn't considered the assassin side of it, actually. Hmmm. And since very few people have true 20/20 vision, the first part would be of benefit to just about everyone, however minor the enhancement.
Given that I concieved of an wrote this in the 20 minutes right before I left for work, I think I did reasonably well, though...
And Silas: Yeah, that would be a whole new world to your monk - as long as he was touching Whiteblade, he'd be able to see perfectly. Could be... Addictive.
*looks up from his new 'Eyesight Abnormality Table'*
I can definiatly see this becoming really addictive, especally in the hands of elderly royalty. Another potential drawback would be that illusions would now be seen with perfect clarity, and since nothing has shadows now, would be rather hard to discren.

I like it.A fine magical weapon that is not too powerful.
A downside to the not seeing shadows would be that the thief/assassin wouldn't be able to see his own shadow. Now if he doused every light in his way tha wouldn't be so bad, but if he didn't, and he cast a shadow the guards would know he was there and he would have to leave, quickly. Good weapon, good reason to exist.

Yes but how well can you see in the dark and for how far.
Can others see you by the light of your blade?
Sigurd: The blade doesn't glow. Go re-read the description. What it does is strip the ability to see shadows from you - so you can see however far you would under full daylight. To the person using this blade, there *is* no dark to see in, and the blade corrects your eyesight to a perfect 20/20... Which is all stated in the item description, which I'm guessing you didn't read.
Well hey there, Kassil!
When did you come back to us?
In the dark of the night last night, actually.
Excellent! Love simple items...
