The Bowmen of Love
The Bowmen of Love are a more or less secret organization found within the larger towns. For a price, they can be hired to drop a love potion into someone's drink or shoot them, not with a bow despite their name, but with a tiny blowpipe that fires a dart with a love potion on it.
The Bowmen of Love are a more or less secret organization found within the larger towns. For a price, they can be hired to drop a love potion into someone's drink or shoot them, not with a bow despite their name, but with a tiny blowpipe that fires a dart with a love potion on it.
Some of those who hire them are lovers who want the object of their affections to return their love, some are fathers/mothers who want marridges that they have arranged for their sons/daughters to work well, some want marridges that are failing to work, to be repaired.
Although their organization is illegal, in practise the rulers of the cities and towns have different thoughts about them. Some rulers hate them, others think that they are very useful in keeping discontent down and society intact.
Also, the fact that they are not killers or robbers, unlike many secret organizations, means that there is much more tolarence for them, and most captured members are punished by fines or prison rather then maiming or execution.
If someone hires them but refuses to pay for servives rendered, they shoot him or her with an arrow with love potion on it, that makes them fall hopelessly in love with the first person of the opposite sex that they see until a healer or wizard/witch can cure them.

Oh, these guys kind of create willing rape victims or some such. What a horror it must be when young, gorgeous Wilhelmina awakens after her 9 year long tryst with Sloppy Fat Joe. I guess that, like Viagra, their potions will be in high demand. Given enough of their meddling entire villages will be love nests filled with romance, desire and jealousy dramas. The wake of a Love Bowman must be truly... intense.
I have some objections though and one of them is this: Is this really a secret society? Aren't secret societies about the world order or preserving the throne or some such? Not about shooting someone in the butt with a juicy love needle.
A fun organization that would be better as a family of love potion makers or something like that. I have deducted some because I find it unlikely as a secret society, but I still dig the idea.
Interesting idea - I can see them more as adherants to a love god/godess cult.
And in some ways, it is more moral then arranged marriages :)
Love is one of the most powerful forces possible, so I would expect an organization like this to be supported by some governments or religions, who would seek to control the power they wield. They might be completely aboveboard in one region, but actively hunted in the next.
The political impact of their actions could be significant; they might be seen as agents of whatever powers are their patrons unless they adopted a policy of strict political neutrality.
