Stonecleave

A mattock created in the age of legends, granted the ability to work marvels in stone...

65 xp 5,380 views

Crafted by the great dwarven smith Thurg Ironskull and the elven mage Sillainalanthalas, Stonecleave is a simple mattock crafted from a single immense lump of silver ore. It was devised and created to aid the creation of new homes for dwarves and elves alike, as Thurg imbued it, through dwarven skill, with the magic of shaping the stone, and Sillain enchanted it to shape the soil without harming living things.

The top of the mattock, along the cutting edge, is worked to resemble the deep stone; as the eye travels down the mattock's handle, the details gradually pass through layers of strata, eventually becoming a delicate work of grass, each blade carefully detailed, at the very end of the handle.

Unfortunately for the incredible labor put into it by Thurg and Sillain, Stonecleave was lost during the wars which later broke out between the two races, resurfacing now and then in acts of both heroism and villainy, from being used to carve a tunnel to let refugees escape from a newly erupting volcano to being used to undermine and collapse the walls of castles during revolutions.

Magical Properties:

Stonecleave cannot actually be used to draw blood or harm anyone; if swung at a living creature, it will pass harmlessly through them as if it were an illusion, aside from leaving the victim with a brief sensation of incredible density.

When applied against stone or soil, however, Stonecleave effortlessly carves through it, flawlessly absorbing the rock and dirt into itself as a kind of mystical fuel. In the hands of a skilled miner or sapper, Stonecleave allows a full day of work to be completed in a single hour. Oddly, the blade will not work on stone that has already been shaped through other means, preventing Stonecleave from simple cutting down a wall or scything a door into a sealed space.

for Stonecleave

The Hall of Honour is your mark on a submission you believe is frick’n awesome — so good you would jump in front of a dragon’s breath to protect the scroll it is written on.

Bestowing HoH also highlights it on the front of the Citadel for about a day, so others see the recognition it earned.

You may bestow HoH on the same submission up to your level (with a short wait between strikes). Five distinct HoH voters raise a work to Golden.

I like it. It's a lot of work to put into a house-building hammer, but maybe it was a big ceremony and a historical peace between the races (I mean, to be a great hammer, and also magic to make it ghost through people.. the second part of that isnt trivial)

A good item with a nice dwarven feel, though I think dwarves should not make a hammer that could'nt mash orc heads.
