Manna Mosquitos

It is said that the bite of a Manna Mosquito can turn someone with no magical power into a spellcaster, but few are willing to pay the price for such power.

Full Description

The Manna Mosquitos exist in only a few, highly magical locations like the Sorcery Springs Geyser Basin. Slightly larger then normal mosquitos, they have a ravenous appetite for blood. Instead of spreading disease however they spread magic. A non-magical person bitten by one of these can often gain a limited ability to cast magic, but at a price few are willing to pay.True mages and witches avoid these pests as much as possible.

Additional Information

There are two big problems with allowing these to bite you and thus gain magical power from them. First, if too many bite and too much blood is taken, it can lead to severe weakness or even death.

The second thing is, the bites itch like crazy for days afterwards, and giving into the urge to scratch them can set off random magic as shown in the table below.

Dice Roll

2-No effect except that the bites bleed.
3-the area bitten turns green but without other ill effects.
4-Random lightning spell goes off from bite site, burning the caster and whoever it hits
5-Short term change of gender (for an hour)
6-Bites explode, causing severe harm
7-Bites start singing random song when scratched
8-Small dead things (rats, frogs, toads, snakes) re-animate as Undead if within three foot of the person scratching.
9-Rotting spell cast on bite area, effects can range from mildly annoying to deadly depending on how bad it gets.
10-Random love spell cast straight ahead of scratching person with maximum range of twelve feet.
11-Person gains the powers of a priest of Mathom, the God of Delays for a whole hour, much to the immense annoyence of those around him.
12-Random flying spell cast on bite site, causing victim to hover a foot off the ground and find moving very difficult. Effects last for fifteen minites before it wears off.

The Hall of Honour is your mark on a submission you believe is frick’n awesome — so good you would jump in front of a dragon’s breath to protect the scroll it is written on.

Bestowing HoH also highlights it on the front of the Citadel for about a day, so others see the recognition it earned.

You may bestow HoH on the same submission up to your level (with a short wait between strikes). Five distinct HoH voters raise a work to Golden.

I really find this entertaining and I will most certainly be using this in my campaign. My players will go crazy over this.

    Excellent job Cheka...

Basic, but odd, creature. I would like more to the chart, but it works for me.

Now what happens if someone is allergic to these things? Is this a sign of a magi?

What happens if they get taken out of a magical area?

I dont really care for it. Random un-themed effects are overdone. But the fact that it is a mosquito is a unique twist, I might be able to use that, maybe make the effects a bit more related to the bite. And I would just take out #8... replace it. It might make sense if the mosquitos had some sort of ties to necromancy, but as is it feels a little wierd to me. Not bad overall, not great either.

I second pretty much what valadaar said.
