Floating Flail

Hall of Honour

1 mark from 1 Strolenati

Bestowed by readers who would defend this scroll.

A short metal rod connected to a longer wooden handle by ... nothing. The rod floats in the air close to the handle.

The metal rod is typically iron with knobby bumps or sometimes short spikes. The wooden handle is often oak and wrapped or bound with leather and studded with tacks. The rod is attached to the handle by a "rope" of force about four inches long, not visible to sight not aided with magic.

The "rope" of force moves like a normal rope does, but since it isn't an actual rope, it cannot be burnt, cut, soaked, or so on. Since it is a force, however, it can stop objects, so it can be used to parry, tie, or trip something.

The flail can be used as a normal flail, with no bonuses to strike or damage. Unless it's full magic is activated, it simply has an unbreakable tether.

Magical Properties:

To activate the floating flail's full magic, the weilder needs to imbue it with some of their life force (2 hp or so). If the weilder concetrates for a round (about a minute), they can change the length of the tether. It can grow up to 12 feet long (4 meters) and can move up to 200 pounds of weight.

If too much weigh is applied to the tether, it does not change in length rather than breaking or exploding. Each action of growing or shrinking takes a full turn. The tether can be shrunk to the point of being joined to the handle for all intents and purposes and then being wielded as a club.

Hall of Honour

for Floating Flail

The Hall of Honour is your mark on a submission you believe is frick’n awesome — so good you would jump in front of a dragon’s breath to protect the scroll it is written on.

Bestowing HoH also highlights it on the front of the Citadel for about a day, so others see the recognition it earned.

You may bestow HoH on the same submission up to your level (with a short wait between strikes). Five distinct HoH voters raise a work to Golden.

I think I have to do some rewriting to make this fit into 3rd edition D&D, but this has more then enough detail and potential for me to use this item.

    Thank you very much.

Out of sheer morbid curiousity, what rewriting did you think was neccessary? I was trying to make my ideas fit into most systems without much adapting, and figured any D&D would have been a default kinda thing for it. I'm very interested to see what I missed out on.

ehhr, on second thought it does not need that much rewriting, it is more like finetuning.

Yesterday I sat down with some books and now I have to come up with a pricetag, dammage and some other things. I was also pondering the drain of life force for extending the flail...

My first inclination would be that it should be more expensive, or there should be a cost based on the 'needed' extra length.

I am going to print it and think it over...

I like this so much because it is magical without being uber-powerful.

I like this item a lot. It's a good idea... many applications are left unsaid... I'll come back later perhaps and add 2 cents...
