The fey are strange, but occasionally, just occasionally, their actions make sense.

Full Item Description
The Arctic Spire is a tall red and white striped pole roughly twenty feet in height and three feet wide. It radiates an aura of icy cold and winter frost, centered around the glowing crystal sphere at it's pinnacle.

History
The fey are a strange race. They do strange things for incomprehensible reasons, yet the Arctic Spire is perhaps one of the more understandable of their creations.

It's sole purpose is to keep people away from their winter fortress, far north of any human settlements. Because the fey that reside there are immune to the cold, it was perhaps the wisest thing they could do to bathe their lands in the coldest temperatures known, uncomfortable to all but the hardiest of creatures.

In this task it has proved more than worthy of their efforts, for as of yet, none have made their way to the fortress through the terrible weather.

Magic/Cursed Properties
The Arctic Spire chills the air around it so much that within a few days snow begins to fall to the ground, though areas with less water in the air will get less snow. Regardless, the snow comes from a temperature change, so whether or not there is enough water to make snow, the area will become extremely cold.

If left somewhere long enough, the frozen area can grow to span an area miles wide.

The Hall of Honour is your mark on a submission you believe is frick’n awesome — so good you would jump in front of a dragon’s breath to protect the scroll it is written on.

Bestowing HoH also highlights it on the front of the Citadel for about a day, so others see the recognition it earned.

You may bestow HoH on the same submission up to your level (with a short wait between strikes). Five distinct HoH voters raise a work to Golden.

Its an interesting idea, but perhaps a bit underdeveloped. I cant help but feel that it could be so much more...

Indeed, it could be. I just wish I could've come up with a better history to go with it.

Aside from the red-and-white striping, I think it's got a lot of potential. I'd picture it as something more... Fey. Like a strange thing of living ice crystal, grown and enchanted by Fey magic in the process to create the arctic zone around it. Perhaps it has some additional side effect - by drawing the 'cold energy' to this location, perhaps heat waves are caused elsewhere, which might cause a heroic group to have to seek it out. Or maybe the fey decide to move it on a whim, and plant it somewhere in civilized lands.

Perhaps it has a fey intelligence in and of itself, or maybe you could explain the seasons with it and a hot counterpart, to have the seasons of summer and winter as they chase each other around the world.

Interesting, but as others have said, could be much more. Perhaps it could tie into Moons Black Christmas somehow :)

I just stumbled over this submission in the random.

If this has the red and white barber pole/ candy cane look, it does fit ElfTech perfectly. In that case Fey would be Elfs, and the cold would cause snow, but not intense arctic cold.. as Elfs are more gentle than Fey.

It is an interesting idea as written. I think if you made it a spire of glass like ice, an cluster of icicles upsidedown, or somesuch, I think it would be better received.

Aren't their winter fortresses already in places where it is bitter cold and Humans (except Eskimos) would never dare go?

Perhaps this would be used as the Winter Court Travels somewhere, or their army invades.

Oh well, yet another idea that I now have to be starting to write for The Winter quest.

The red-and-white stripes make this somewhat comical, a blatant North Pole like you might see on a holiday greeting card. The rest of the idea is also interesting and, as others have pointed out, even good enough that an expansion would be nice and interesting to read. Good idea, can definitely not have enough winter holiday submissions.

An interesting oddity, and sure to spark interest if encoutner in an otherwise tropical climate. Perhaps the locals have come to rely on it for refigeration and releif from the othersie intolerably hot envrioment.
