#131The Battle of the Asenor Isthmus
In the violent Civil war that wracked the planet of New Chelsea, no battle save the Siege of Loddengaard, compared to the savagry of the battle of the Isthmus. The Isthmus is a low hill a few miles wide and thirty miles long bordered by swamp and sea. The Loyalists of Governer Charles McFadden had fortified the position in the hopes of delaying the combined armies of Vector and Taronkowa. The heart of the defences was the reinforced 4th Royal Cuirassiers heavy infantry division. The 4th was supported by two regiments of mechinized infantry, and a medium armor brigade. With the high ground, the 4th and itc commander Richter Gracial expected to hold the position for at least 10 days, allowing ample time for the loyalists to deploy reinforcements to the region, possibly flanking or cutting off the Rebel armies.
The 1st Vector Armor Division, fielding new VT-100 heavy tanks flanked around the southern borders of the swamps, being supported by two regiments of mechanized infantry. The Taronkowa launched a bloody offensive with three infantry divisions, supported by a division of amphibious infantry fighting vehicles. The battle was a bloody stalemate with the Loyalists refusing to give ground, and the Taronkowa inflicting staggering losses on the infantry with their superior assault blasters. The battle turned on the third day when the 1st VAD completed its penetration and shattered the Loyalist lines of support across the isthmus. The next two days ended with the almost complete annihilation of the 4th Cuirassiers.
Casualities ran towards 12,000 dead in the fire fight and artillery attacks, though 2/3rds were Loyalists. The Loyalist army lost in addition to 8,000 soldiers, nearly 400 pieces of war material, mostly traction cannons, medium tanks, and armored fighting vehicles of medium to light weight classes. -
Re: Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 3
#132Nice stroy. You should put it in the Freeform Roleplaying section. -

Re: Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 3
#142I am currently eyeballs deep in the magic chapter of Exalted: the Fair Folk. I think that the rules for shaping attacks and all that other stuff that keeps making my eyes cross could be a good basis for creating some sort of order in the general melee of the freeform section. -
Re: Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 3
#143I was thinking of taking a look at exalted, and I was going to open one of the books in a hobby store. then I saw a Trigun RPG, then miniatures. Then I forgot what I was doing and left. -
Re: Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 3
#144I have that same problem. Except mine goes more like: Can never find a hobby store and when I finally do I forget that it is a faux pas to sacrifice a virgin to Cthulhu in my joy. Seeing as I'm still inside the store at the time I generally get banned for life. -
Re: Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 3
#145Exalted rocks. My brother got that for me for my birthday. It makes me happy.
And I might have to add the Trigun RPG to my list of "If I ever have monies..." along with the Firefly RPG. I didn't know they made one for Trigun. -
Re: Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 3
#146It's only one book, I think.
I'm accessing the site via PSP. This is oddly exhilerating. My typing is really slow, though. -

#151I prefer actual ribs to prime ribs, but as far as I'm concerned, MEAT = GOOD. -
Re: Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 3
#152NATO's new commander in chief, General Davis Richards, describes the fights in Afghanistan as the toughest battles in 50 years (He is British, so Vietnam does not count, but the Gulf wars do). I remember that when the US invaded, some people (media people mainly) bragged that they had done in days what the Soviet Union could not do in 9 years.
Still: This is the fifth year of occupation and NATO stand as the USSR once did. The nation has not been conquered and the fighting is getting uglier every day.
Methinks the "we have won" conclusion was a bit premature. -
Re: Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 3
#153I think that we're on the verge of WWIII, at the risk of sounding like I'm on a soap box. -
Re: Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 3
#154Information popping out of nowhere.... -
Re: Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 3
#155Yes. I know it must be traumatic for you guys, as you are only accustomed to prime ribs and such, but sometimes I use this thread to comment on news and citadel trivia.
"The Horror!"
"The Horror!"
"The Horror!"
(Marlon Brando playing a character in a situation nearly as traumatic as yours) :p (Just kidding) -
Re: Re: The Call of Captain-thulhu part 3
#156Sorry to intrude, but had to place this quote somewhere as it is so nice:
"Adam was but human - this explains it all. He did not want the apple for the apple's sake, he wanted it only because it was forbidden. The mistake was in not forbidding the serpent; then he would have eaten the serpent."
-- Mark Twain -
