Re: Old School
#321Carnegie thought long and hard, before she spoke up, sounding as if every word was dragged out of her.
"Iffin dey's r'enslaved, den dey's not our enemies... We's ought ta be 'elpin dese folks, stead'a killin dem... Iffin we's meet anymore, Ah say... we try'n tajk em alive. " She paused to look at everyone.
"Dese folks r'sick, n'd dey be needin our 'elp. Dere must be sum way. N'd until we know 'ow, we kin jess... give 'em a pummle n-n'd stash em sumwhere when dey's causin us trouble. Ah'll cum along ta 'elp free dem..." She swallowed.
"But A-ah ain't tajkin anutter step iffin killin 'em's all you's gonna do. A-at least... At least, try!"
She folded her arms, adjusted her stance and tried to look determined, trying by sheer force not to tremble. -
Re: Old School
#322Ayna shook her head, "Trying to take them alive's a noble gesture, but none of us are trained for that sort of combat except maybe Marcus, not to mention trying to take alive people who are trying to kill you usually gets you penned in the dead book yourself."
"If you fancy trying to fight mind controlled and thus fearless, men armed with submachine guns and pistols using a shock stick be my guest, but make sure your funeral affairs are in order before trying it."
She sighed and reloaded her spent magazine with fresh cartridges before continuing, "Even if we did start taking them prisoner, where are we going to stash them they won't be able to break free from? I'm not sure the mayor wants to fill the town lock up with a bunch of mind controlled zombie freaks, besides, if we lock them up the controller will probably hit the kill switch like it did on that guy over there." She gestured towards the freshly dead man who had delivered the dire warning.

Re: Old School
#323"Ah..." Carnegie started, her mouth chewing thin air as she drew a blank. It was true that something else seemingly had killed that last man in the end, so any effort could ultimately prove fruitless. But what else could she do, she couldn't kill them, she couldn't. And she couldn't bear to see her group killing others either. She wanted to yell at Anya, to call her a coward for not even trying, but she was right. It was hopeless.
She shook her head. "A-ah cain't deal with dis rite naow..." She said, her hand covering her mouth, blinking back the tears she hurried off half-running, deeper into the compound, she didn't have the first clue where she was going, but she knew she couldn't bear being around the others. A rudderless ship adrift in a sea of storms.
I guess I follow the corridor, see if I see anything interesting. -
Re: Old School
#324She nodded to Marcus, taking the light and looking it over, "Sure big guy, and you can to give me back that armored vest I'm letting you use at the same time, or we could consider a trade, this light for that vest." She smiled warmly at him, trusting he would see the value in her offer, but equally confidant she could barter the vest in town for a decent profit if Marcus wasn't interested in an exchange..
Carnegie's sudden response to Ayna's appraisal of the situation took her by surprise, and she stepped towards Carnegie to block her path, reaching out a hand to gently try to stop her, "Easy now, if you go running off you're going to probably get yourself killed by more of those guardsmen or some defense turret, and Elvis will follow you and he might get shot again, fatally." She paused to let her reasoning sink in before offering her alternative.
"Let's head back to town and plan our next move; the mayor might have some insight on how to proceed, and I can see about opening that armored security door just inside the entrance to this place when we return, We might find some door controls there, or a security station with cameras so we can avoid the guard patrols and find a way to the A.I that lets us fight as few of them as possible." -
Re: Old School
#325Too choked up to respond, Carnegie merely nodded gratefully, not daring to meet anyone's eyes just yet. Yes, of course. The mayor, he's got to know a way, he's just got to! Hope anew beginning to surge into Carnegie, she gave Asha a quick hug on pure impulse, then awkwardly let go, red with embarrassment and surprised at herself. But at that point, she would have followed her anywhere. She bent down to carefully snuggle and examine Elvis while she dried her tears and then waited for the others to take point. She had a purpose again. -
Re: Old School
#326Asha returned the embrace readily as she smiled warmly, relieved her friend was willing to listen to reason. "I promise you hon, we'll do everything we can to shut down that A.I with as little harm to anyone it's controlling as possible, we may not have the skills to subdue them, but we can avoid them, and lure them into running in circles with a distraction or two, or maybe even crawl thorough the air ducts to by pass them entirely, I have no desire to harm those poor enslaved men and women if I can help it." -
Re: Old School
#327Ayna nodded in agreement, the idea of a withdrawal to better plan their next move giving her an opportunity to leave her 28lb sniper rifle topside, given it's use in the bunkers confines was extremely limited, and the certainty of deafening everyone in the group if she did, was a side effect she was was confident no one wanted.
"Lets go, before more guards show up or the thing that's controlling them decides to change door codes and lock us in here or close fire doors and suffocate us or something."
