"Where I came from wasting food was the last thing you ever did, and down here who knows when he'll get another chance to eat? I figured he deserved it more than the trash bin."

"...Ah din't say anytin..." Carnegie pouted, blushed and looked away. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Oh great, now they're fighting again. What was keeping this group together? She wouldn't have been in the original group if it hadn't been for Luc, and after their falling out... She resolved herself to not get involved again once all this business was done with. All she had now was Auntie Tilly, Sig and the boys. You're never as alone as when you're among strangers.

    -

At the sound of Dot12's voice sounding, she stopped and turned back. As Marcus raced forward, she unslung her rifle, checked the safety and rested it on her shoulder, better get a shot in this time before Marcus inevitably got in the way again. Her finger was on the trigger, her eye in the scope.

Readying an attack, shooting if something that isn't human comes within view or charges.

Asha turned and flattened herself against the wall, grateful for the gloom of the corridor and hoping to get a clear sight on who just interrupted the talking can opener, poised to shoot but waiting for clear identification of any targets first. Reaching over she checked the closest door to see if it was locked, hoping if it wasn't they could quickly slip inside and conceal themselves from whatever patrol or adversary was making its way towards them.
  3. Re: Old School

    #283
Elvis growled at the sudden sounds, whirling to face their origin and lowering himself closer to the ground, tense and ready to spring, sniffing the air cautiously for any scent of the new comer, waiting for Carnegie's queue to lung forward in attack.
  4. Re: Old School

    #284
With an uttered curse she dropped the rifle with an audible thud, crouching down and reading her pistol, the lack of any audible attack against the robot indicating someone had known exactly how to silence it, or was using a silenced weapon, neither of which meant they were likely friendly.
  5. Re: Old School

Asha found the left door near the elevator unlocked - she didn't get a chance to check the hallway doors - things were progressing too quickly for that.

Two figures and two more behind were working their way down the hallway, walking smoothly and deliberately.  One of the lead held a pistol with two hands, and a flashlight underneath cast a bright bluish light.

They were all wearing similar bulky overalls, and full-faced helmets, and were suddenly aware of the companions.

Indicate your actions and Init rolls please.

Given the killer dog came from in here, as well as the hostile cyborg janitor they had killed earlier, Asha didn't hesitate, she fired a short burst as soon as she had a clear sight picture of the first target, aiming for the lower abdomen, where armor would likely be the weakest in the pain of impact the strongest, hoping for a quick take down of the lead target, trusting her comrades would also enter attack without hesitation.

Ayna winced at the sudden retort of gunfire from behind her, the unexpected arrival of helmeted foes giving her a surge of adrenaline. From her crouched position she aimed and fired as well, supporting her teammates and hoping the unexpected fusillade of bullets from the darkness would force their opponents into retreat if not cut them down where they stood.

All of sudden gunfire rang out.  Asha's burst of fire impacted the figure with the gun, but seemed to have no results (-4 penalty from firing a burst means only hit AC 12, which is not good enough) apart from drawing its attention.

Anya fired as well, catching the same figure and making a more noticeable impact.  (hit, 7+2 for Deadly Aim feat (I'm assuming you used it :) )

Seeing human figures, Carnegie whitened and withdrew, ducking into the elevator room, out of view.

Marcus, noticed this, and roared as he charged in close to the enemy.

He avoided the path of the gunfire and attacked the enemy nearby the pistol armed attacker, this one had a smaller, buckler like shield, and an odd metal baton line weapon.  He saw that of the two in the second rank, one held some type of submachine gun, the other a similar baton.

His ax slammed hard into his foe, tearing a massive slash in his overalls and splashing blood everywhere.  He seemed staggered but still swung at Marcus.  The baton hit, and there was a blue flash.  However, between the brevity of the contact, and Marcus's own rage, he barely noticed it (1 hp damage - save and poor damage roll)

The one standing nearby fired his pistol, the bullet cutting a furrow in Anya's cheek (Nat 20, terrible damage rolls - 4 hp total) and whizzing into the elevator room.

From the second rank, there came the staccato sound of automatic gunfire as the enemy sprayed the hallway with a hail of bullets.

Improbably, the hail of bullets missed everyone except for Elvis as he turned to follow his mistress.  A single bullet found him and with a yipe he went silent. (7 points damage, Elvis is currently at -1 and unconscious).

The fourth member attempted to also tag Marcus with his electro baton, but failed miserably.

She paused for a split second while switching her Glock to single shot, trying to recall if she recognized the armor from her knowledge of history, and what, if any vulnerabilities it had before adjusting her aim, targeting the neck area of the smg wielding guards suit, hoping for the armor there to be thinner and quickly put him out of commission form the impact crushing his larynx, even if the round failed to penetrate, yelling to her friends, "Concentrate fire on the machine gunner!"

As soon as the battle started, Carnegie threw herself into the elevator room and hunkered down in a corner, what was going on, why did they attack those two men?!

Her panicked huddle was abruptly invaded as she saw Elvis collapse to the floor, her scream of rejection rang through the gunfire and denied the reality she perceived. Laying down, she reached out and grabbed the prone dog and dragged his body inside the elevator room, leaving a trail of smeared blood.

Since he was following me, I'm gonna assume he was close enough. As a standard action I grapple him, as a move I drag him. Shouldn't need a roll since he would be considered a willing target and he's unconscious but, (15). If you need it.

Ayna's shouted response to Asha was lost in the cacophony of gunfire as she smoothly adjusted her aim to focus on the sub machine gun wielding target, trusting Marcus coudl more than handle 2 opponents on his own in close quarters.

Carnegie looked down in panic at Elvis, laying motionless at her knees. She checked his pulse and breathing, once she was sure he was still alive, she breathed a sigh of relief and then took a deep breath, ignored the gunfire and started rummaging through her backpack. First thing's first, it was a bullet wound and since he was unconscious she better try and remove the bullet if she could. She drew her knife and took her bar of soap and ran it across the blade, then she took a bottle of cattail hooch and drenched it, she prayed it was strong enough stuff to disinfect it.

Her blade inched carefully into the wound and pried at the bullet. Once she had dug it out, she then ripped up her pre-war casual wear to make a make-shift bandage, she hoped that would be enough to stop the bleeding. She bent her head down and sat there trying to prevent the blood flow while she waited for the senseless killing to end.

  14. Re: Old School

While Carnegie attended to Elvis, oblivious to the battle, it raged without her.

Marcus, full of battle fury, struck out with his axe again, but his injured opponent stepped back and his ax cleft air.  As Marcus's axe swept by him, he slashed up with his baton and struck his arm solidly  (8 points impact, plus 1 point electrical)..

Asha fired and her shot hit home - the submachine gunner jerked as her round hit him. Moments later Anya's shot stuck and he fell backwards.

The lead figure with the gun fired again, but his wild shot stuck the ceiling and ricocheted harmlessly.  Marcus took the opportunity and smashed his axe into him, slamming hard into his chest and dropping him.

The baton-wielding Guard from the second rank scooped up the dropped SMG and brought it up to fire, another flock of bullets sailing into the elevator room, making Carnagie's impromptu surgery that much more exciting.

It didn't look like Elvis was going to die now, once she got the bleeding under control.

  15. Re: Old School

    #295
Asha gritted her teeth at the hail of lead, hoping the ricochets inside the elevator wouldn't hit Carnegie or Elvis, she took a moment ot adjust her aim and call out to the helmeted guards, "Surrender!" She paused a beat, ready to fire again if the smg wielding foe didn't drop his gun and comply.

If he doesn't immediately surrender she shoots: (00:01:11) Minion: Silveressa rolls 1d20 and gets 11+5=16

  16. Re: Old School

    #296
Ayna gave a quick glance behind them, double checking against an unexpected flanking maneuver by the guards, although the amount of lead they were spraying from the front made it highly unlikely, still, it never hurt to check, the yelled command from Asha for their surrender making her grin at the attempt she was sure would be a waste of breath.

Machines don't surrender, they follow commands until they no longer can, and people with machine bits stuck into their skulls are like puppets, putting them out of their enslaved half-death misery is a kindness.

Without hesitation she lined her sights up on this newly armed foe and prepared to squeeze the trigger unless it decided to retreat or follow the rogues command.

If the guard zombie continues to attack I keep shooting otherwise I save bullets.

  18. Re: Old School

    #298
In full fury now, Marcus slashed at the guard who had zapped him, but his wild swing failed to punch through the guard's armor.

Asha should have saved her breath, for the smg-armed guard turned to fire at her.
His body language spoke of pain as the rounds from both Anya's and Asha's shots stuck him.  He didn't drop but his aim was terrible as he shot up the ceiling with another burst of rounds that stopped abruptly. The bullets ricocheted down into the elevator room, pocking the floor near Carnegie and Elvis.

The guard fighting Marcus swung wildly too, his baton swinging over Marcus's head as it sparked and crackled.

Well, for init in this battle, I have not rolled above a 9 once.  This time it is 3, so post as you will :)
  19. Re: Old School

    #299
Asha breathed a short sigh of relief as the burst of smg bullets abruptly stopped, meaning the weapon had either jammed or ran out of ammunition, an opportunity she wasn't about to waste. She fired another shot without hesitation, the lack of yelled commands, curses, or even cries of pain from the guardsman striking her as creepy, and furthering her opinion they were likely no different than the cyberzombie janitor they had faced earlier.

Ayna paused for a heart beat as the enemies gun clicked to empty, sparing a glance at the other downed foe to make sure he was truly dead before shooting the still standing submachine gun wielding man, letting Marcus finish his melee without risking shots that were danger close to him.

Death, all around her. Humanity had destroyed the world, but that wasn't enough, they had to keep on killing eachother over the scraps that was left. This wasn't right, why couldn't they see that? She remembered Heavenly Haven, a paradise lost. Cement flakes raining down on her, dug loose by errant shrapnel. Her covered head resting on Elvis's flank, eyes closed tight, a single tear shed for the mindless violence that permeated this time.

    Same as before, total defense.
  22. Re: Old School

    #302
Marcus smashed at his guard with his axe and connected this time, hitting him hard and knocking him back against the wall where he slumped.

Asha's and Anya's shots both hit the submachinegun wielding guard, though only Anya's drew blood.  The sub-machine gun once again fell to the floor while its owner attempted to staunch his chest wound with his hands.  He lost the battle quickly and fell over.

    The battle was over.

Marcus was shivering a little, and small coils of smoke rose from his arm.  "What the hell are those things?" he said, kicking at one of the batons on the floor.

  23. Re: Old School

    #303
Asha quickly switched pistol mags, keeping an eye on the fallen enemies as she did so, rising to her feet and giving Ayna and Marcus an approving nod, pausing as she noticed the lack of Carnegie or Elvis, the trail of blood quickly leading her to their location in the elevator. "Anyone else hurt?" She asked, giving Elvis a worried look before seeing Carnegie had the situation well in control for now. "Did the shot go clean through or is it still inside him?" She looked over at the downed enemies but trusted Ayna and Marcus could search their bodies easily enough.

"Where was he hit? We can take him back to the town sawbones for surgery if it's bad or he still has a slug in him."
  24. Re: Old School

    #304
Ayna holstered her pistol and bent down to gather up her rifle, cautiously making her way towards the fallen enemies before kneeling down to remove the helmet over the nearest ones face, curious if indeed they were more cyber zombies before busying herself with searching the bodies for extra ammunition and any key cards or other valuables. "You okay Marcus? I think those are stun sticks, probably used to subdue animals or something, might be handy if we need to take someone alive someday."

She gave a closer look at the armor the guards were wearing, wondering if any of it was removable and perhaps able to fit over their current clothing.

Marcus looked a little off, but similarly checked his most recent enemy over.  He picked up the pistol and took a look at it.  Not a revolver, not a .357. Just some pansy-ass 9mm, not even as nice as what his companions carried.  Absently he pocketed it.

When Anya pulled off the helmet of the guard - the one who first bore the SMG, she saw the face of an older man - thick grey hair, eyebrows and short but unkept beard.  His eyes were open but his face was expressionless.

Apart from being dead, violently so, he looked in good condition. No sucked in cheeks and even the exposed teeth were white. Brighter in fact than any of her fellow villagers.

"Did the shot go clean through or is it still inside him?"

"Where was he hit? We can take him back to the town sawbones for surgery if it's bad or he still has a slug in him."

A shaking Carnegie straightened up, took her hands off her head and looked up at Asha. Her eyes swollen and her face red. She slowly shook her head and murmured. "...Ah took de bullet out... 'E's still breathin..." She swallowed, her hollow voice shivering. "...Why...why did ye shoot at those men? ...Dey's hadn't dun us no foul... Are dey....Are dey dead?" Her lip trembled and her fingers dug into Elvis's fur as she stared up half pleadingly, half defiantly at Asha.
  27. Re: Old School

"We broke into their base, killed their janitor, ate their food, drank their bubbly water, I'm pretty certain talking wasn't going to make all that right, besides, I'm near certain they were more of those zombies,."  She shuddered briefly as she recalled the last time she was in a place like this there'd been surgical tables, and men with scalpels and painful experiments she'd rather not think on.

She cleared her throat uncomfortably and knelt down to examine Elvis closer. "During that entire fight they didn't say a word, not a command, not a cry of pain, a yell for mercy, they ignored my call to surrender as well. People aren't that quiet and cold, even bandits and crazed muties are known to scream in pain when you put a bullet or boot somewhere tender, whatever those things were, they weren't human."

She sighed and glanced back down the corridor where Ayna and Marcus were searching the bodies, "They're not a problem any longer, I'll see if they have any Stimpacks on them for Elvis but it looks like he only took a flesh wound, he got lucky, if they'd gotten off first shots it would probably be all of us laying there injured, or worse."

For her healing roll: (16:54:33) Minion: Silveressa rolls 1d20 and gets 11+2 healing skill +3 intelligence =15
Also if it's not apparent, Asha assumes Elvis got hit in the first exchange of gunfire and Carnegie was busy tending to him, which is why she didn't shoot back at them.
  28. Re: Old School

    #308
"Take the holster for the handgun Marucs," She cautioned him quietly, "Just stick that in your pocket or waist band and you may wind up shooting off your little tribal by accident someday." She gave him a good natured grin and passed the spare magazines for the Browning, checking over the Uzi for any damage before reloading it and slinging it over her shoulder in easy reach, busying herself with stripping off the flack vests, helmets and boots from the bodies, putting a finger to each of their throats to check for any pulse as she did so. "Letting Asha take the light from it for her pistol might be good to, you probably won't need it with your up close nature, and she did give you that armored vest you're wearing."

(Did they have any radios on them? Or were any built into the helmets? She took the boots for them if any happen to fit and are better then the ones the group owns, or to donate to the town otherwise, good footwear is hard to come by in a fallout world I imagine.)
  29. Re: Old School

    #309

As she checked, Anya found one still drew breath.  He was the one Marcus had first felled with his axe earlier and was bleeding fairly badly. He wouldn't last too much longer.  A second expired as soon as she checked him, as if he was turned off.

Removing the armor revealed normal bodies in good, if damaged, condition.

The helmets lacked any obvious radio - no visible mic -  though they appeared to have some electronic systems. They weren't active though, and their purpose could not be readily determined.

The boots were decent, but looked like they would stand for all-weather use. Apparently their wearers never expected to leave the shelter. Certainly these ones weren't.

Carnegie shook her head. "A-ah dint know...Ah thought dis was a ruin, not dat people still lived 'ere, or Ah'd never suggested we'd break in! Ahm not a thief! An Ah won't.. tajk part..in killin people..." She shook her head forcefully. "...D'ye really reckon dey's not human ...Till t'day, Ah hadn't ever met a talkin robot afore either. Where d'ye draw de line anyways, who's ta say who's human and who's not..." Carnegie looked into Asha's dark specs.

She got up, hugging herself for support she slowly walked up to study the bodies. She covered her mouth with her hand, they sure looked human enough to her, these weren't anything like the janitor. She stumbled over and threw up in a corner. As angry as she had been with Elvis getting shot, as scared as she had been with two groups of people treating eachother like monsters, all she felt now was a sinking despair. She had been the one to suggest they enter this place, and now two men laid dead on the floor, because of her. She had become an accomplice to murder. Bitter tears filled her eyes as she shakingly tried to deny the harsh reality laid out in front of her. She just wanted to go home, this was wrong, this was all wrong. Her reverie was interupted as she heard a gurgle coming from the other body, she wiped her face on her sleeve and hurried to him.

"H-hey!" She yelled out to noone in particular as she hastily slid to his side, she tried to stem the blood flow. But in her panicked state, she couldn't stop her hands from shaking to do much good. "Sumbody help 'im!" She blubbered. Blech, rolled a 4 for heal check +6, doubt that's enough. She jerked her head up at Anya, tears in her eyes. "Help 'im!" She shrieked as her hands desperately tried to stem the blood flow.

The blood flow seemed to stop on its own, oddly enough. And a moment later, his eyes flicked open - staring wildly.

"Such a ..take. Implants .. Trap!"  he said with a bloody cough.  "Fuck! Hurts so much. So much lost!" Tears joined with the blood.
"It was plotting, hiding.  Can't see here. Broken.  Ahhh.  Fucking machines. Our deaths.

Must stop it. Going to ... deathlands.  Recruit others. More machines." He stopped for a moment, his eyes darting about wildly.

Ayna raised her pistol to deliver a helpful bullet at Carnegie's request, pausing as the man began to speak, lowering her pistol in mild surprise before kneeling down to take a closer look at his injuries. "What machine are you talking about? Was it a giant robotic dog? What trap?" She spoke softly but urgently, keeping her weapon at the ready should the man attempt some type of last ditch attack with a concealed handgun or grenade, his ominous warning giving her a swell of fear.

With Ayna's lack of healing skills and her feat of "killer" helping the man via a bullet to the brain seems the only real way of assistance she can provide.

Carnegie stared without comprehension down at the man. "Wut..? Wat're ye tryin ta say?" She hoarsely asked, surprised that the bloodflow had seemingly stopped, she tensed up a little, fearing he would suddenly move. She became aware of how awkwardly positioned she was, and on top of a complete stranger no less, but he was injured after all. And if she could do anything to prevent more death, she would.
  34. Re: Old School

    #314
A cough, and his eyes seemed to settle slightly. Still dilated enough to be visible in the poor light.  Oddly reflective they were.

"The implants - traps.  It took over. .. Terrible things.  Still others.  Levels cut off - reactor not the best.  Wants to control everything."

Then his eyes lost their focus.  "Fuck, it's reconnected.  Wait, noooo."  The last word was a cry which was cut off suddenly.  Carnegie could feel a sickening Click!

The next moment he hemorrhaged, a terrifyingly heavy flow of blood emerging from his mouth and he went completely limp.
  35. Re: Old School

    #315
Asha raised an eye brow as Ayna readied her pistol for a follow up kill shot, shaking her head against the idea, her voiced objection interrupted by the mans dying words, the sudden torrent of blood making her cringe in disgust. "It sounds like some kind of machine has them enslaved?" She offered her opinion quietly to the group,  looking down at the dead man with a brief swell of pity. "Let us speak somewhere away from the bodies, if they're being controlled by something then it may be able to listen through the implants in the bodies." She offered, gesturing towards the end of the hallway.

"I would like that tac light from the pistol Marcus, it's not of much use to you with how you prefer to fight with an axe." She told him quietly, a slight chill from the dead mans warning lingering in her mind. "Anyone have any stims we can give to Elvis? Carrying him out of here is our only alternative otherwise."
  36. Re: Old School

    #316
Carnegie covered her mouth with her hand. She closed her eyes hard and sobbed as her head wilted like a flower, her long hair like a final curtain for the now deceased man. She hadn't been able to save him. But what was this, had he been controlled, just like that janitor-bot and the robo-dog before him. What kind of machine could take over flesh, and how do you stop something like that, was there even a cure...

As she finished crying, she got up limply, like a puppet with taut strings, she belatedly joined the others, her gaze facing down, her posture of utter defeat. She didn't hear Asha's question the first time, but then she took out the stim-pack from her backpack, nodded and went to administer the shot to Elvis.

If noone has any objections, I'm using the stim on Elvis then.
  37. Re: Old School

The stim - it was labeled STEM on the side, made a hissing sound as it went in.

The STEM pack flooded Elvis' bloodstream with a barrage of pharmaceuticals, and it triggered massive activity at the wound site, as well as revving up much of the dogs metabolism. His eyes winked open and he panted heavily.

STEM Packs (Stemcell Trauma Enhanced Mending)

    Class I
A staple of the battlefield medic’s equipment, provides quick healing for traumatic injuries as well as limited regeneration.

These devices inject a cocktail of several substances:

Omni-match Stem Cells which have been made genetically compatible with 99% of the general population.
Anti-rejection drugs which address minor genetic incompatibilities.
PHL-80 Cell Division Accelerant to greatly speed the healing process.
Pure Sucrose to fuel the enhanced cell growth

No one ever finds the stem packs in their original packaging anymore, otherwise the warning, "Not for Veterinary Use", might have been found.

However, Elvis was rapidly restored to full health, though very hungry when the pack ran its course.  What long term effects human stem cells would have on him remained to be seen...

Asha gave Carnegie a reassuring pat on the shoulder, her desire to give her a comforting hug seeming a bit too much given the circumstances, "It's horrible what happened to them, but being enslaved like they were, at least they're at peace now." She eyed the corpses with a shake of her head.

"If some kind of machine is trying to take over it's probably the same one that sent the killer dog to attack our community, finding that machine and smashing it to bits sounds like a good plan, or finding the power supply to this place and throwing the off switch?" She sighed and knelt down to give Elvis a few more strips of Jerky and let him lap at the water from her canteen. "We could fall back to the township, but I don't like the idea of leaving this thing to plan and prepare for our return, right now it's off balance, if we move fast we might keep ahead of it's guardsmen and prevent it from fortifying itself; I just hope once we throw the off switch all those poor  people it has enslaved will be freed."

Marcus said, "If these are zombies, maybe we should make sure they can't get back up again."  He held his ax menacingly.

He paused for a second, but took the flashlight from the pistol and handed it over. "Won't be using that piece much, so I guess you can use it.  Still mine though when we get outta here."

"So, we going to go pull some plugs or what?"
