I want to run a game, who wants to play?

Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?
#41Okay, what kind of resources do we have to work with? Scouting Drones? Cloaking devices? Long range guns?
There's no cover and no chance to ambush them unless we pull some kind of ruse. For instance, what is a creche? Is it mobile? How big is it?
The first thing that comes to mind for me is bombardment (if we have long range capabillities) followed by a gradual withdrawal and covering fire to draw them out, but that's only if they lack long range capabillities which would require some scouting on our part, or that we take a chance. -

The Amerikka Command forces are using an EM cloaking device, a mobile shroud generator, and it has scrambled almost anything that runs an EM signal. No CogNet, no drones, no sensors, no computer assisted targeting other than laser designation and 'iron sights'. Your mecha cannot even communicate with each other at the time being. To signal each other, you will have to either resort to mecha hand gestures, or some other optical system. The Shadow Hawk in your squad is the long range fire support with it's long barrel 90mm gun.
A creche is a facility, typically no more than 3-5 stories tall, and having a foot space on par with an apartment complex, as it houses on site staff, as well as a biosciences center/lab where seedlings are spawned and aged and a small motorpool area for their small compliment of vehicles. It is a fixed installation and has no military capabilities, 50% medium structure, 50% light structure.
Whatever plan you decide to go with, Commander, so long as it isn't standing around, giving the commandos time to flank you. -
Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?
#43So apparently they just turned it on, or we likely would have noticed as soon as the first mech entered the field - the commanders telemetry should have detected the disconnect, and the radio chatter would have cut off for the first mecha to enter the shroud.
Why is it important? If they just turned it on for us, they know we are here.
Given these are a known device, wouldn't the mechs include line-of site laser communication as standard issue?

Seeing as the terrain is flat, and you are in multiple story tall mecha, yes, they know you are here. By turning on the shroud generator, you cannot call in artillery support, or call in an airstrike. By doing this, they have somewhat leveled the playing field, either you will engage them with one squad of mecha against what forces they have, or you will retreat to where you can call in support and request instructions from Command.
Newer machines do have laser comm links, but your machines, benefit of their age and condition (either they never had one, or the one they had hasn't been turned on in so long it might not work)
And while Shroud Generators are known devices, the opinion from the Ivory Tower is that you are the finest soldiers ever trained, in some of the most impressive war machines to ever exist, and if you can't stomp the bejesus out of some terrorists in gas powered chariots because your radio doesn't work, maybe your in the wrong profession. Mecha pilots are supposed to be hotshots, mavericks, and loose cannons, inspiring public support of the military, and acting like the celebrities they are supposed to be. You aren't supposed to be soldiers slogging through the mud.
You're the Avengers, with giant ass robots supported by flying battleships.
Are you an effective team? -

In game, derek is waiting for orders , do not confuse valadaar for derek. -

Fair enough.
I'm not going to make cheap shots against the players, cheap shots aren't fun, and this is RP not tabletop, so that sort of thing isn't going to happen unless it serves to advance the plot, or you are facing a suitable enemy aka a professional rival, headhunter, or a foe that you would get a heads up warning on facing.
This is an initial skirmish, for everyone to get a feel for their machines, and combat.

Ho-okay, :) personnally I would have preferred to plan it out but if they already know we're here and things won't get much better..... LEEEEEEROOOOOOY JEEEEEEENKIIIIIIINS!!!! -
Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?
#48Are we to make up those sports teams and such then? I don't really know what kind of futurey sports are played in the arco. -

Doesn't matter, it's just fluff and most of the 'sports' are played in the CogNet.

Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?
#51Yes, make it up.
Take the ball and run with.
blitzball? football? Quidditch? Dinosaur Rodeo?
Take it and own it -
Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?
#52MechaSportSim
Take any conventional sport, add giant mecha, host in an online forum/stadium, play ball.
Full Contact football in unarmed mecha?
What about mecha based martial arts? this is all online, none of its real, so it can be anything -
Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?
#53Incoming mechwarriors have several options for housing, with the most common choice being the mechadrome barracks, where they are less than five minutes walk from their machines. It's close, but the dorm like rooms are cramped, but a step up from the eight to a room bunks where the clones, marines, and other on duty personnel sleep. There are perks to piloting the big iron. The second option is to apply for a military funded residence in Arco San Louis, which adds a personal commute of 20 to 45 minutes depending on light rail traffic in the arcology. Mechwarriors tend to get minor celebrity treatment in the arco, which can be good and can be bad, just depending on the personality of the mechwarrior in question. Playboys, roughly handsome pilots, and such tend to enjoy private quarters for romantic trysts with groupies, while those who play the bad boy trouble maker card generally stay on base because there are way fewer people who want to teach that punk mechwarrior a lesson. The final and discouraged option is getting a residence in the favelas around the city. Contrary to documentaries about how bad all of the favelas are, the favelas, especially those closest to the arco, are closer to vertical suburbs than Dreddian slum fortresses.
I'll go with arco for both my family and for me then, though I am abit drawn to the favelas just because it sounds kinda latin, so that would be fitting. Maybe my family could live out there... Mmmm yeah, I'll live in the arco with my boyfriend because of the short commute, and family out in the favelas. As long as it's upper tier suburbs. -
Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?
#54Going to go with Favela myself, since it would be what his parents least approved of.

Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?
#55Throwing a note up here before I go to work, don't have enough time to elaborate on it, but I am going to try and cover this tomorrow morning-ish but I cannot make promises. I have a Dr.s appointment in the AM (test results and review, nothing serious and for those concerned, everything is going very well) and then a jaunt over to the inlaws.
Favelas should be graded, with something like a 1A graded area effectively being the same as living in the arco, and some 1A areas might actually be nicer than living in an arco, if the arco in question might be an older model, or have some inconvenient quirks.
On down the list through the middle pay grades
Down to the 5F grade favelas which are functionally urban warzones with little or no police presence, intermittent utilities, and prevailing poverty and a strong criminal element.
Would also likely need to toss in a grading system comparable for seacologies, and more importantly, the cesspits and hives of scum and villainy that are the geofronts -
Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?
#56Just so we're clear, we just leave secondary characters as flavour then? At the moment it feels a bit like you missed what I posted, Scras.
But if it's your preference to focus on the mech stuff and keep the background characters as flavour, I'm fine with that as long as I know that's what we're doing. -

No, I want to bring some of that in, thank you for the reminder.

Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?
#58Waiting for you to frame my arrival Scras, or give me the go ahead to intro myself into Maxine's bar scene, whichever works for you.
(also if Derek happens to call and ask for back up for his meeting, Marsha would drop whatever she's doing to give him support.) -

Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?
#61Apologies, I have been swamped by RL, but take heart, I've been in discussion with someone well versed in the Cosmic Era over what adventures to throw your way

Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?
#62RL has relented.
Got hit by a car, but sounds way worse than it actually was, had an epic weekend, and getting back into the swing of things.
Let's hope there is some steam left in the engine -
Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?
#63Glad to hear it turned out okay Scras, not sure where to go with my char until the party scene, unless Maxine invited Marsha along on her investigation? -
Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?
#64Ah, wasn't sure if it would warrant much, but okay. Changed my post, consider yourself invited and briefed. -

#66On a side note Scaz, just a reminder I decided back during the beginnign of the game for me low dice rolls = good ;)

(Just figured I'd put out a friendly reminder of that given the encryption deciphering roll was an 8 and the symbol analysis a 36, which didn't seem to synch up with the dismal results in code cracking ;) Not that I;m asking for any GM ret cons, the current result is more plot driving anyway  ) -
Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?
#67Do we roll for stuff? I've yet to roll for anything, I've just left it up to Scras whether something works. But if he wants me dead though, THEN I would like a roll or three. :P -

The chip is an antique, and that's why it hasn't been touched by the hacking and decryption programs. It's trying to plug a 5 1/4 floppy into a Mac Air. -
Re: I want to run a game, who wants to play?

Fun plot arc btw, it's fun to see the game world from outside the cockpit in all it's dubious mysteries and splendors. 8) -

It's easy in the cockpit, the LAI picks out what is a hostile and what is a friendly, there are very few vagaries, few moral conundrums. Its just blinking lights and the reassuring hum of the reactor wrapped in tons of nigh impervious armor.
Outside the titans, things get muddy and murky.

On hold, I plan on getting something moving in it again, I have gotten really stressed out at work and it's murdered my creativity. This is some of the most stubborn writer's block I've had in a long time. -
