Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#41
Doing some traveling today for work. Will get right back to the game late tonight!
Question of the day: foe casts darkness, pc casts magic missile. Normally, magic missiles automatically hit, but what about if they're fired into magical darkness?
Depends on if PC 2 casts Light on the darkness and dispells it before or after the magic missile? -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#42Thorgir has recovered 21 (15+6) hit points since the Qullan melee.
Somnak has recovered 6 hit points of the 8 he took during the same fight.
Re: House-rules for concentration checks for spells. I'm a big believer in the, "you-should-be-able-to-cast-spells-when-you're-wounded", mantra.
So yeah, cast away as you bleed to death. Fine by me. And fine by cyclops.
-
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#43All this traipsing about the jungle night hunting invisible cyclopes has brought out an urge in me to use proficiencies. (Like blind-fighting for example, thanks val! :))
So everyone pick some proficiencies!
Will try to find an online link to a list, of all the ones to choose from.
Housekeeping:
Killed
1 leopard
Somnak's Qullan blade did not blunt down with the leopard strike... Murometz rolls 1d100 and gets 65. Woo!

Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#44Perception Roll:
(15:00:47) Minion: caesar193 rolls 1d20 and gets 2.
Yeah... Melior is probably about to be blindsided by some half-dragon, half-demon fiend. -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#45You aced the roll. The lower the better on any ability check, including perception. Have to roll that number (your perception score) or lower. :)
Also, found this! http://www.rpg.net/etrigan/files/nwpindx.txt -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#46Perception: 5
And I'll go with, in order of importance; Enamour, Dancing, Masseuse, Swimming, Herbalism. -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#47No idea how many proficiencies we get, but these sound pretty good for Somnak:
Chanting
Weapon Improvisation
Weaponsmithing
Intimidation
Rope Use -

Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#50My proficiency shall be... Spellcraft! -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#51So I've got like 3 and 2/5 non-weapon profs then? That's fine, I labeled them in order of importance. I don't think I've selected any weapon profs either for that matter? -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#52Elves receive +1 with bows and swords. So how about those 2 for weapon proficiencies, Meleana? :)
Yes, pick 3 from Enamor, Dancing, Masseuse, Swimming, Herbalism... Masseuse? :P
Somnak gets 3 non-weapon proficiencies (along with 5 weapon ones), so you have to settle on 3 from Chanting, Weapon Improvisation, Weaponsmithing, Intimidation, Rope Use.
Melior needs to pick 3 more non-weapon profs, aside from Spellcraft...
Lumori: 3
Brin: 3
-
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#53Thorgir can have 4, so Blind Fighting, Animal Noise, Riding and Rope Use.

Yes, pick 3 from Enamor, Dancing, Masseuse, Swimming, Herbalism... Masseuse? :P
Heh, yeah it sounded fun. But thinking about it, I would probably be the one to receive backrubs rather than giving em, so I'll go with Enamour, Dancing and Swimming. Can't grow up on an island without learning swimming.
Uhm, well I also picked dual weapon wielding, so that counts as one more? I don't even know how attacking works. :P I guess longbow(unless the elf trait counts as that), since my AC isn't the best, plus keeping with my stereotypical heritage. -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#55Decision Time!
You can cash-in a Fate Point now, and gain a level pre-pyramid!! OR, save it/them for those all-important life-or-death re-rolls inside same pyramid!!
Somnak: 2.5 Fate Points
Lumori: .25 Fate Points (he just used one in chat! Buahaha!)
Rasmus the Willow: 1 Fate Point
Thorgir: 1.25 Fate Points
Melior: 1.5 Fate Points
Brin: 1.25 Fate Points
Meleana: 1.25 Fate Points
What to do, what to do...
:dunno: -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#56Can i use 2.5 for a double level? :p
Somnak will level!!
:axeman: -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#57Melior shall level up! More magic!!!
As for proficiency, I'm gonna go with spell craft, oratory, scribe, and research. -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#58Leveling as well. every HP helps.
-
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#59Okay, if everyone else is doing it, Meleana levels as well. What do I get from leveling? Just hp? -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#60Depends on your class. -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#61Druid. -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#62Meleana: Actually you become considerably more powerful. Spells go from 2,1 to 3,2,1! With your wisdom that's an extra level 3rd level spell, so your new daily is 3,2,2! Yes and a 1d8 for HPs.
Can i use 2.5 for a double level? :p
Somnak: Unfortunately, no. Only 1 Fate Point can be used this way at a time :) However that does leave you with 1.5, so you still get a re-roll option, and have .5 left over to build on again. Also, 1d8 for hps aaaand, pick one of those spirit-drummer abilities you came up with!
Melior: additional 2nd level spell/day I believe...(3,2) plus 1d4 hps
Thorgir: 1d12+con for HP sheesh! :)
Lumori: 1d6 hps, plus skill %'s increase (oops, nevermind, your Fate Point was used for re-roll)
Brin: additional 2nd level spell I believe and 1d8 hps. (if cashing in Fate Point)

Easy come....

Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#64(17:58:08) Minion: Gossamer rolls 1d8 and gets 6.
What? My current spells are 5,4,1 according to the last time we spoke. Look at the CS earlier in this thread.

Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#65Rough morning :)
I meant 1d6 for HPs...and yes, you're at 4,2,1, plus wisdom bonuses... http://www.ancientscrossroads.com/adnd_tools/wis_table.htm
so officially going forward as a 4th level druid, you're at 6, 4, 2.
Sorry for confusion. -

Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#67(16:35:00) Minion: caesar193 rolls 1d4 and gets 4.
Yea, I reached 13 hit points! Melior can survive anything!
Also, as I was getting 3 and 2 for spells per day before, do I now get 4 and 3? Cause Melior's so smart and awesome? -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#68Yes, i house-ruled in some bonus spells for your genious-ness. :)
So technically, at 4th you'd be at 3,2 (at 5th 4,2, 1 [FIREBALL!]), but I gave you 1 bonus 1st and 1 bonus 2nd. So yeah, right now,you're at 4,3. -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#69Brin's Profs are already on her sheet, minus the third weapon prof - Should have 5, acc. to 2nd ed phb. Also, going to stay level 4, as I expect to have to use at least one reroll to save vs death. :P -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#70Somnak: +5 hp
Sonic screech: once per combat while playing an instrument, Somnak may call on the spirits to release a burst of noise which doesn't interrupt his drumming. Enemies who hear it must make a save or be disoriented and lose their next action. -

Description:
The elven warrior-mage wears a fine hauberk which glimmers like silver in the torchlight and a grey travelers cloak slung around his neck and over his shoulders. Around his waist is an odd belt made of delicate, interwoven roots. The warrior-mage walks barefoot. Ardhalas, first son of Emethyne and Aldurai, was fair once. Not so anymore, for across his face an X has been scarred, marring his once perfect features. This X is known among elves as the brand of an outcast, an exile and a traitor to his own people. His black hair has been braided into cornrows that end in cowry shells. He has ice blue eyes which some find pretty, yet other feel are cold and lifeless.
History:
Once a Thaur of the Haulor Order, the magic using elven archers of the Darkshade Forest, Ardhalas defended the forest using guerilla tactics for over 20 years. Due to his cautiousness, and tactic skill, his unit had the lowest number of casualties during the Azul Orc wars, yet never had to surrender their part of the forest to the orcish savages.
Ardhalas is an Outcast elf, sentenced to eternal exile by the High King of Althyras for his treachery against Prince An-Anailé. For Ardhalas loved Meleilé ,the Girl of the Meadow, since his childhood, but the Prince was smitten with her and Ardhalas was expected to bow his head and move on to other things. He did not.
Sentenced by the High King, and cast into exile by the High Priest of Althyras who opened a portal to "a place of dying and punishment", Ardhalas is alone and confused.

Bamboo Scroll! (w/ magic-user spells, all cast at 12th level of ability!--2nd level--Knock x 2, 3rd level--Dispel Magic, Clairvoyance, 4th level--Wall of Ice, 6th level--Stone-to-Flesh). Melior can do two things. He can copy over the spells into his spell-book for the future, AND he can cast these spells from the scroll as a 12th level mage, once each. For 2nd level knock spells, he has a 10% of failure, with 3rd, 25%, with 4th 35%, and with 6th, 50%.
This week, 2 more PCs, Ancient Gamer and EchoMirage will enter the Pyramid of Doom! -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#76So can I do both for each spell, or one or the other for each spell? Like can I scribe down Dispel Magic, then when I get into the climactic duel with the cyclops, cast the Dispel Magic through the scroll to allow my minions to flank him? From what you put, I get the impression that I can do both, but the "once each" bit threw me off. -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#77Yes, you can copy them all over into your spell-book first, so going forward those spells will be part of your permanent selection.
And additionally,
You can cast each once from the actual scroll anytime, with percentage chances of failure. -
Re: OOC: Tales of Misadventure
#78Lumina Kismet
(Lumina being a title or address, not a given name)
The throne of Erkenbrand Karellion was seized by a trio of usurpers, and the youngster, but fifteen at the time, could flee only by the virtue of his advisor's spells, casting him to realms chaotic and unknown, where the assassins would not follow.
The Erkensang tells of his return, as popular as four hundred years ago: it took twelve years before the king returned as a grown man, an army at his back. And what army that was! Tryamador the three-headed dragon, the wizard sisters Feyur and Farrah, the risen knights of Ulfholm, and many more, one more colorful than the next.
Unmistakable, as if made from liquid light, the Luminae stood at his side; throughout the centuries following his return, they have been loyal to his line and legacy.
I it said that in the outer realms, Erkendbrand earned the love of a goddess - who, when she learned what death was, sent her dreams to steward her beloved upon his return, and those of his blood as well, for the reminiscence they bore to the adventurer-king.
Ever since, the temple deep within the heart of Brandburg sees eggs appear from pillars of ethereal light. From these, the Luminae come forth - few in times of peace, more numerous when the need is dire. Each one is gifted, no doubt, and loyal to their sovereign, ready to serve with blade, spell and counsel.
Kismet
… is one of the king's outriders, cunning and relentless, a valkyrie vindicator of his will. Twenty winters old, Kismet loves the bliss that life can bring, whether the savage thrill of combat, the joy of the hunt or the throes of passion - as if she was cathing up for a past life, or subconsciously believing her life is to be short.
In love with the king's son, yet forever damned to be at most a mistress, for a Lumina cannot bear a human's child, Kismet strives to excel and to bring the wrath of the crown upon its enemies instead.
Appearance
Tall and lean, Kismet is hardened by combat and the saddle. Every Lumina is slightly different - both by birth and by choice. In Kismet's case, this is evident from her hair, or rather head-tendrils ablaze with color (preferrably red) Two of these tendrils are far thicker and resemble horns, are mobile though, and bear each a row of tiny eyes along their length. Her spine continues into three slender prehensile tails, each with a pad with suction cups at its end.
Each Lumina bears calligraphic writing in an unknown tongue across her body, usually barely visible, but can be suffused by inner light to bring it forth.
Race:
Swift: Luminae are built for speed, and gain +1 to Dex but -1 to Con.
Flexible: Luminae have very flexible bodies - and may appear to be boneless at times.
They can contort into tight spaces, escape manacles and extend or bend their limbs at unnatural angles, but are less suitable for bearing heavy loads.
Malleable: Luminae can shape their soft tissues given enough time (i.e. days) and
material, e.g. to become more slender or to fill out, regrow an eye or tongue, and so on.
Inner Light: A Lumina may bring her body to glow akin to a Light spell at will.
Lightsinger: A Lumina may alter light in subtle ways in a 5 ft cube / level.
Possible applications: bending light to make a torch into a 'hooded' lantern; creating dancing wisps of light; bending sun light at a cave's mouth to shine inside; color light; insert immaterial prisms or lenses into its path. This ability cannot manipulate light sufficiently to cause harm, to blind, or to create convincing illusions or to cause invisibility.
