#17A few lists I have hanging around.
Deities in the Abrahamic religions
Jews, Christians, and Muslims believe in the same God, but Muslims, and to some degree Jews (see below), visualize God in strictly monotheistic terms, whereas most Christians believe that God exists as a Trinity. It is a nice example of one basic diety/ religion set manifested in three different ways. Remember that any one god might have several religions based upon it.
Judaism
Yahweh is the Biblical name for God used by ancient Jews. Adonai, Eloheynu and Hashem are some of the names of God used in modern day Judaism. The Hebrew word "elohim" is also used to refer to God in the Torah and the Christian Old Testament (though it expresses the concept of holy spirit as manifested as Angels) , and this refers to a multiple nature of God. However, Jews hold to a slightly more monotheistic view of God than Christians. They reject Jesus Christ as a false messiah, and do not assign any deity to him. However, the English word "God" (spelled "G-d" in deference to the taboo against pronouncing the Tetragrammaton) is commonly accepted among Jews to denote God (or G-d), as well.
Christianity
Historically, Christianity has professed belief in one deity, three divine persons (the Trinity), that make up one deity or Godhead, known as "God". (See Athanasian Creed.) Thus, most Christians are trinitarian monotheists, although there have been dissenters; see the articles Arianism, Unitarianism (History), Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Jehovah's Witnesses for examples. Most of these unitarian groups believe or believed that only God the Father is a deity; Latter-day Saints believe that the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit are three distinct deities.
Islam
Allah is the most traditional Muslim name for God. Islamic tradition also speaks of 99 Names of God. The mystic Hebrew Traditions also reference them.
Other
Two smaller faiths that don't neatly fit into any of the categories of Abrahamic religions. Rastafarianism worships Jah and the Baha'i Faith also worships the same God as Jews, Christians and Muslims.
Hinduism
People tend to forget that a good portion of the world is currently polytheistic. They don't worship a single diety in a pantheon, they worship all the dieties in the entire pantheon and pray to the appropriate ones. Remember that the next time you are playing in a polytheistic background.

Arthian/Andoran Dieties
#18Like all things in Arth, there are sixes everywhere. Thus all spirits are categorized in the six tiers, dieties being the most powerful spirits and plants/ animals being the least.
Ge-Em moved from a transental entity to one of the first tier when it created all the other dieties.
First Tier
Spirits of the first tier are more transadental than other things. They do not have primary and sece' forms. They just are, and we beings of a lower level are lucky to be able to know they exist.
These dieties have associated sub-dieties. They are the third Tier. Since Ge-Em started as a superior diety, his subdiety (Luminance/ Spirit) manifests itself as the two elemental subforms of Luminance/ Spirit- Light and Darkness.
Ge-Em (primarily male)
* Omin form: Anything required. Assumed male, but could be female.
* Associations: None and All.
* Element: Space
Mother Arth aka Arth-A aka Mother Nature (primarily female)
* Associations: Passive, but creatively active
* Element: Flora and Fauna
Yi-Ang (Neuter)
* Associations: Chance and Balance.
* Element: The Dance: The way things interact.
Tier 2
Light (Diety of Order) Primary Female
* Associations: Passive, Positive, Submissive, LAW
* Element: Luminance/ Spirit- Light, links between things.
Darkness (Diety of Change and Advancement) Primary Male
* Associations: Active, Negative, Dominant, CHAOS
* Element: Luminance- Darkness, magic and deception/illusion
Earth (Doer/Protector) Primary Male
* Associations: Passive, Negative, Dominant, LAW
* Element: Metal and Rock, Craft shops
Air (Thinker/Inventor) Primary Female
* Associations: Active, Negative, Submissive, CHAOS
* Element: Wind/ Cloud/ Weather Libraries/ Schools
Fire (Leader/ Destroyer) Primary Male
* Associations: Active, Positive, Dominant, CHAOS
* Element: Fire/ Lightning/ Smoke The Wilds
Water (Emotion) Primary Female
* Associations: Passive, Positive, Submissive, LAW
* Element: Water, Oceans, Sailing, Healing
Tier 3
Chro-No
* Associations: Yi-Ang, Balance
* Element: Time
He is the keeper of time. The maker of destiny. One of the weavers of Ge-Em's master pattern.
Deth as to keep it seperate from Death
* Associations: Life, Balance, Lady Arth
* Element: Spirit
The collector of used/ lost/ disembodied spirits for his mother to use. He is the collector/ recycler of destroyed and used things. He holds on to them while Ge-Em gets ready to use them.
Luminance aka Balance of Spirit
* Associated Ge-Em
* Element: Spirit
This Diety is actually two dieties at once. The cosmology gets fuzzy at this point, so most people just accept Luminance, balance of Spirit as a theoretical construct, rather than an actual diety.
Tier 4
The Master
These are spirits charged with "administrating" a specific archetype. They are spirits of each primary things. They are sort of the patron saints of given places or things. Of these spirits their is a heirarchy of sorts, as masters of well defined archetypes report to masters of broader archetypes. So the master of Wolves and the master of Dogs report to the masters of Canines, who reports to the master of animals. Sometimes they will report to the master of the biome they are in.
Masters are of races, object classes, places, events, customs (manners, traditions, holidays), and times.
Masters control the flow of power to something they administer. So if you want knowledge about something, the master can flow it into you. If you want your swords to strike home, the master will flow it power to make it so. And so on.
In short, Gods get all the glory, Masters do all the work (at the directions of the higher entities).
How they are used is that you pray to the appropriate first to third tier diety, and include the master. Oh God of Chance, and master of horses and master of races, help my horse with this race.
Some important masters
These are sort of worshiped on their own.
Danu Master of Masques: There is a whole dominant religion based around this master in Maskland. Masques, is the controlling abstract for the physical noun masks. In the MaskLander's home tongue, mask/ masque has many additional meanings... the most important of which is the appearance of all things which is different than their core. Danu is a deceiver (hiding truths), a revealer (exposing truths), teacher (leading those to truth), and the core of which the natural universe is merely a mask. In short Danu, is associated with GM. Most people in the known world do not understand how these crazy people can ignore "The Gods" and just deal with a simple master of masks.
Master of Magik: This is the right hand being of The God of Darkness. This is the master of magik spells and the magik of life. Power use in all its forms are his providence. Those that practice power use (magic users, priests) all have a special place in their hearts and spells for this master.
Master of Sailors and Mistress of Sea: Folklore has them married. She is fickle, honest, fair, but when angered beware. He is strong, steady, handsome, but prone to party a bit too hard. The interplay of sea and sailor is played out in a variety of folk tales surrounding these dieties.
Mistress of Cold: Cold is the called by some the seventh element. This master is quite a powerful one. This master actually has a prime (Frost/ Ice - cold and beautiful Goddess) and sece' (Snow- happy and fat god). There are a variety of folk stories about her, fire, and water. Some have her as his mistress. Some have her as their daughter. Some have her as the actual tier two diety, with fire being her sece' form.
Master of weather: One of the most commonly called upon masters. This master is in charge of all the others (wind, rain, snow, lightning, sun, heat, humidity, etc). He is the one who coordinates the weather between Air and Water.
Masters of Years, Months, Days, Hours:
There is a series of thrones overseeing a party of many masters. Each Master of a year, sits for their year overseeing the party. Each master of Months, likewise. The six masters of days, trade between themselves, a throne. The masters of hours likewise. The masters of specific months, days, hours, act as servants at the party for their time.
There are many folk tales and parables built around these dieties, from tier 1 on down. Most did not actually happen, but they are alegorical.
Tier 5
These are the spirits of sentient things. That is all peoples, deamons, and elder races.
Tier 6
These are the spirits of all subsentient things, animals and plants. Strangely enough, these spirits are more powerful than one would expect because they are not burdened with thought. They are part of the Way. -
These Are Our Gods
#19I was looking at that list of real-life gods (thanks MoonHunter!), and it struck me how many different cultures had some variant of the Triple Goddess (generally seen as Maiden-Mother-Crone). I think the Greeks themselves had about four variations of it. It's interesting, and I think I'll make something up for it.
Other Kitchen Gods:
Typo Demons - These are the little malicious spirits that cause typos.
Theater Gnomes - These creatures live under the rows of seats, and take or move any tools or other objects left out over night.
The Boogyman - also called the Monster Under the Bed or the Monster in the Closet. Embodiment of childhood fear of the unknown and the dark. Sometimes a good deal more real than people like to admit.
Not Me - an invisisble, often malicious spirit that does quite a bit, judging by the amount of blame laid at his feet.
Murphy - originator of "Murphy's Law" (What can go wrong WILL go wrong. Corrollary - It'll generally happen at the worst possible moment.) -
These Are Our Gods
#20Actually, to note something, Murphy did not say the line he's so famed for. Murphy was an Air Force lieutenant, when they were testing jet engines. One day, one of the techs hooked up the sensors to the test pilot, but he did so pretty much backwards, ruining all the test data. As a result, Murphy is said to have commented, "If there are two ways to do something, and one will result in utter disaster, some idiot will do it that way."
Finagle later came along and condensed this to "Anything that can go wrong, will." and then instantly became victim of his own law as everyone credited it to Murphy. -
These Are Our Gods
#21I didn't know that. -
These Are Our Gods
#22Hah! That's hilarious! -
These Are Our Gods
#23Isn't it, though? -
These Are Our Gods
#24Admittedly, these are deities wholeheartedly yanked from the anime Revolutionary Girl Utena, but it rather fit the campaigns going on at the time, and so here we are...
----------------------
Utena
Prince of the Rose
Other names: The Rose Knight, The Sword of Revolution, Thorn of the Rose (irrevrent), The Duelist (irrevrent), The Rose of Valor, The Pink Prince (irrevrent), Lord Tenjou, The Guardian of the Planes
Portfolio: Valor, Strength, Combat, Plants, Protection, Life
The Prince of the Rose and her followers are the ultimate guardians of the planes, a divine vanguard which places itself squarely between the worst the planes can throw and the mortal lands of the Prime Material Plane. The Prine herself resides on the plane of Ceirrus, along with her Rose Bride, Anthy; together, the two keep watch over the Gate which links the plane of Ohtori with the rest of te multiverse, holding the planar minions of Akio at bay while her priests do battle with the Defiler's followers on the mortal planes, seeking to prevent them from gaining the power of Eternity. To this end, her followers are trained not only in the arts of divine magic, but in the arts of combat, each priest becoming something that's half-knight and half-cleric.
Her home is a rose-enwrapped castle which strabbles the dividing line between the two layers of Ceirrus, a mighty fortress overlooking the only pass through the infinitely high mountains which seperate the two halves of the plane from each other. Within this castle, she trains alongside her most devout followers from he mortal plane, honing them into an elite army for the day when Akio tries to breach the Gate from Ohtori with his own legions. Her followers who failed to qualify for this elite force become a part of the plane, one of the many mighty rose bushes which fill both halves of the plane, each one animate and armed with countless needle-sharp thorns, all capable of punching through even the strongest armor. While this position seems demeaning to those of other faiths, her followers understand it for the honor it is - eternal guards, protecting the rest of existence from the evil of Akio's forces.
Restrictions:
All of Utena's followers are required to battle against extraplanar threats to the mortal planes, no matter what. A simple mephit or fire sprite can be just as dangerous as a djinn or a demon from the depths of the Abyss.
At all costs, the Plane of Time must be defended; if any of Akio's followers each the plane's locus, the battle is over, and the multiverse has lost.
Honor and valor are the two most important virtues of a follower of Utena. If a follower gives their word, they must keep it; and cowardice is not an option. Intelligent retreat from a superior foe is one thing; fleeing in terror another altogether.
Remember always that even the weakest and most hopeless of lives has the potential to revolutionize the world. Encourage that potential, that it might bloom into something great.
Followers of Utena tend to dress in well-cut clothing, with an emphasis on ease of movement, with a preference for black and red as the primary colors of the garments. For the men of this faith, this tends to result in black-trimmed crimson tunics and breeches, and for the women, crimson-edged black tunics and either skirts or breeches, as they prefer. All of them, however, bear a Rose Signet, a special ring crafted of silver and rose quartz, blessed by Utena to always have a faint scent of roses about it. Should the ring fall into the hands of someone not of the faith, or should the follower somehow betray Utena, the ring loses the scent completely, becoming a plain silver band, tainted with a tarnish that never comes off.
Titles
Level 1-3: Rose Duelist
Level 4-7: Disciple of the Rose
Level 8-12: Thorn of the Rose
Level 13-15: High Duelist
Level 16-19: Rose Knight
Level 20: Grand Duelist
-------------------
Anthy
The Rose Bride
Other Names: The Princess of Roses, Rosepetal, The Thornless Rose, Silence of the Light
Portfolio: Healing, Plant, Animal, Life
The Rose Bride, the beloved of Utena, resides with her on the plane of Ceirrus, tending the rose bushes which fill the entire first layer; these aren't the self-aware, animate guardians of the second layer, but rather a simple part of the planar landscape, with long, thornless creepers which wind around the rest of the plane's surface - winding up pillars and through immense metal trellises, filling the air with the scent of a hundred billion rose blossoms. As she tends the roses, so do her followers tend to life throughout the planes, encouraging it to grow, spread, and prosper.
She lives with her Prince in the great fortress which sits astride the pass between the first and second layer, wielding her divine magic to encourage life throughout the multiverse. With her at all times is her familiar, the demigod Chu-Chu, serving as her companion and a kind of comic relief, as his power is wholly invested in a near immunity to harm and a fork which always strikes, despite dealing next to no damage.
Restrictions:
No follower of Anthy may be the one to begin a battle. Her followers are required to encourage and nurture life, not end it or harm it. The only time a priest is allowed to strike first is in moments when it becomes obvious that the victim needs to be removed, much like plants must be pruned to grow properly.
In the same light, a follower of Anthy must try to defend life at all costs. Even the lowliest of beasts deserves the life it was born with. While not vegetarians, Anthy's followers only take what they need from nature, and always try to return it by encouraging the remaining life to grow stronger.
Any barren land a follower of Anthy finds, the follower must make an effort to bring life to it.
Only one exception exists to the injunction against violence; servants of Anthy's brother and her Prince's archnemesis must not be allowed to continue to inflict suffering upon others, thus all followers of the Broken Sword are to be destroyed.
The followers of Anthy tend to dress in simple red roes and gowns, accented with white and gold in a few locations as the priest sees fit. The cloth is usually tough enough to survive adventuring, but each priest also owns a more ornate set of the same clothing, usually made of a finer and more valuable material, for when they have to make a good impression. They also tend to carry a medallion with the same image engraved in it as appears on the Rose Signets of the followers of Utena; where Utena's followers use silver, Anthy's followers use electrum, an alloy of gold and silver with a pale yellow color. The medallion has the scent of freshl;y turned soil, unless it falls into the hands of a disbeliever or until the priest strays from Anthy's following, at which point the scent fades away and the metal turns a dull, bloody crimson.
Titles
Levels 1-5: Child of the Rose
Levels 6-10: Tender of the Rose
Levels 11-15: Keeper of the Garden
Level 16-19: Blessed of the Rose
Level 20: Father (Mother) of the Garden
-------------------------------
Akio
The Defiler of Roses
Other names: The Prince, Lord Duelist, The Eternal Rose, Sword of Eternity, Rosebane (irrevrent), The Heartless Prince (irrevrent), the Broken Sword (irrevrent)
Portfolio: Stealth, Power, Greed, Combat, Death, Illusion
The Defiler, as Akio is known to most, is a cruel god who has but one goal - to seize the Power of Eternity for himself. He attracts followers with promises of power, fame, and fortune - promises which bear fruit only to those who reach higher ranks in Akio's priesthood. However, the lure of the potential can draw in entire cultures, granting him enough power to work incredible miracles - and yet he remains sealed within his home plane of Ohtori, fearing the power controlled by his rival, Utena, who guards the Gate which links his plane to the rest of the multiverse. Instead, he directs his priests to search for ways to let him pass directly to where the power of eternity lies. Until that way is found, he trains the souls of his dead followers, viciously forcing them to relentlessly duel to hone them for the day when he tries to breach the Gate to seize the Power of Eternity.
He holds dominion over his plane from a belltower crafted from a single mammoth pillar of ivory on the second layer of the plane. The first layer consists of an immense city, with mutliple training fields scattered through it where his followers train for the length of their afterlives, waiting for the day when they'll be set loose upon Utena's army. Akio himself spends his time researching ways to open another Gate between worlds, but so far that power has eluded his grasp. Even his undead servants who've spent millenia doing nothing but studying the Gates linking the planes, have yet to discover even the slightest hint of the secret to creating them. It is both his greatest obsession and his greatest madness - if even the gods don't know how to craft them, who - or what - did?
Restrictions:
All of Akio's followers are required to seek power at all costs, no matter what. Magical, political, social, military, whatever may come, if it can be seized and turned to the quest to seize the power of eternity for Akio.
Akio's followers are forbidden to act directly in all but the most important circumstances; there is no need to risk life and limb when a minion's life can be risked instead. Of course, if you can manipulate your own foes into doing your work for you, so much the better...
Cleverness and a scheming mind are the two greatest assets of a priest of Akio. Cultivate both, so as to ensure success.
All life has great potential; that potential exists to be rooted out and exploited for personal gain - if not of the owner of that potential, then one of Akio's servants will profit from it perfectly happily.
Followers of Akio tend to dress in white; no matter what, the dominant color in their attire is white. Tis occasionally leads to them being confused with followers of Lukan, the Lord of Rebirth, which Akio's priests are only too happy to exploit. Aside from the white coloration, however, the garments of a piest can look like anything - from a simple robe to intricate and formal court gowns; the only thing all of them have in common is the signet all of Akio's priests wear. Made of silver and rose quartz, the blessing of Akio has turned the metal a dull black, and put a scent of decaying roses in the air around the ring. Should the ring fall into the hands of anyone other than the priest - it dissolves into a fine, chalky powder.
Titles
Level 1-3: Acolyte of the Rose
Level 4-7: Servant of Prince
Level 8-12: Lord (or Lady) of Thorns
Level 13-15: Lord of Duels
Level 16-19: High Lord of Duels
Level 20: Scion of Eternity
-----------------------------
Demigods of the Rose War
Ceirrus
Chu-chu - the only complete non-humanoid of the demigods of the Rose War, Chu-chu is a strange little creature somewhere between a mouse, a monkey, and a peculiar rubber ball. Serving as Anthy's familiar, he also serves as the patron demigod of cooking, and as such can often be found in the castle pantry when he isn't riding around on Anthy's shoulder. Still, for his size, he's an extremely loyal creature, and whenever Anthy is threatened, he's certain to be found armed with his fork, ready to stab at any foes. Those few who follow this eccentric little demigod are often the sidekicks of greater heroes, usually the ones responsible for the food.
Juri - The patron demigoddess of honor, Juri's form is that of a young woman with brilliant orange hair and a cool, serious expression. Her role in the Rose War is to train and test Utena's warriors, honing them into the perfect force. To this end, the practice yards often ring with the clash of steel, with Juri herself in the thick of it, dueling the best of the army personally. Those who follow her are regarded as some of the most honorable of warriors, and few are ever turned away - even the poorest of peasants recognize the value of such skilled warriors, if even for a night.
Miki - The patron demigod of bards, Miki takes the form of a young man with shocking blue hair, warm blue eyes, and a friendly smile. Always well-dressed, this demigod is a talented musician, and often entertains Utena's army at night with his performances. While he often wishes that his twin sister, Kozue, were there to play with him, he accepts that her role has brought her to side with Akio, althouh the thought pains him, lending his music a haunting, melancholy air. Those who follow him often find that their path is somehow easier, and the bards who follow him are generally renowned as some of the greatest musicians to set foot upon any world.
Wakaba - The patron demigoddess of loyalty, Wakaba takes the form of a young woman with her brown hair pulled back into an onion-like harido with a small ponytail fluff in the back, and soft brown eyes. While not a warrior, she's fiercely loyal to Utena, and when the final battle comes, one can be certain to find her at Utena's side, doing her best to help defend the planes from Akio's malice. Those who follow this loyal demigoddess are the most trustworthy of souls - many henchmen are protected by her, although many are unaware of her patronage, and occasionally some may find her favor after demonstrating extreme loyalty in the face of danger.
Ohtori
Kozue - The twin sister of Miki, Kozue's form is that of an attractive young woman with blue hair a shade darker than her brother's, blue eyes, and a malicious smile. While she wishes to be with her brother still, her choices have trapped her in the plane of Ohtori; as the demigoddess of malice and envy, however, Akio has trouble keeping her under his thumb. Often, she is begged for aid by people who feel wronged by a lover or a friend - and she gleefully grants her aid, tearing apart happy couples, determined that if her happiness is denied, so, too, should theirs be denied. As a result, any 'star-crossed' pairs often blame their misfortune on her, whether or not it happens to be true.
Nanami - The younger sister of Touga, Nanami is both the demigoddess of obsession and of sisters. Taking the form of a blond-haired girl with dark eyes, she clings obsessively to her older brother, daring anyone to try and take him from her. She often is beseeched by those who seek the favor of one they desire who ignores them, and she esponds by twisting the loved one's mind into a fanatical obsession with the beseecher - many time to the downfall of both, although Nanami does not care about the end result. However, she may sometimes take pity on a sister who loves a brother, and more gently influence the brother to the sister's favor. Still, she is often blamed for obsessions of any kind.
Saionji - The patron demigod of madness and guardians, Saionji takes the form of a slim young man with rich green hair and a half-mad light in his eyes. He holds Utena at fault for anything that befalls Anthy, even if it be something as simple as pricking her finger on a rose's thorn. Despite being trapped in Ohtori, his madness lends him the belief that he's simply the first defense for Anthy, and so he often lurks on the plane's thrid layer, savagely attacking anyone who comes near the Planar Gate. This suits Akio perfectly well for the moment, as Utena refuses to send any of her soldiers to Ohtori, as it would force them to battle Saionji - and while mmerely a demigod, Saionji is still a powerful warrior. OFten, he is called upon by grief-stricken warriors who want nothing more than vengeance for their loved ones - and Saionji delivers it, imbuing them with the strength and fury to hunt down those they wish vengeance upon - unfortunately, this fury is fatal, as once the last enemy falls, a suicidal depression falls upon the warrior and they take their own life.
Touga - The elder brother of Nanami, Touga is the patron demigod of nobility, but also of cruelty. Taking the form of an elegant young man with shimmering red hair, he can often be found training Akio's army in the arts of war, brutally injuring those who fail to meet his standards; while he never outright slays the followers of Akio, he does harbor a secet in his cruel heart - a desire for Utena to triumph, as the Rose Prince's noble fury has caused him to fall for her. Still, he remains a servant of Akio, and as such is often called upon by those who seek vengeance - often unjustly. HE answers, normally, with a ghostly weapon that has only one requirement to use: once vengeance is claimed, it siezes the soul of the wielder and drags it off to join the ranks of Touga's secret force - the ones who may well decide the fate of the Rose War, on the day of the final battle, should Touga turn on his master and fight for the Rose Prince.
Tsuwabuki - Taking the form of a young boy with short blond hair, Tsuwabuki would have ended up in the plane of Ceirrus but for one thing - he has a desire to serve Nanami, in hopes that she will, one day, love him as she loves her brother. As such, he is the patron demigod of servants, and will often use his power to make their lives a little easier, asking for nothing, not even worship, in return. Should Nanami ever fall, or should she turn to him rather than her brother, he may well leave the plane of Ohtori to join Utena's host. -

Arathena
The Eye of the Storm
Other names: The Storm Queen, The Voice of Thunder, Witch of Wind, The Northern Gale, Loud Mouth (irrevrent), Never-Strikes-Twice (irrevrent), Airhead (irreverent)
Portfolio: Thunder, Wind, Chaos, Stealth, Destruction
The Storm Queen is a cruel and capricous goddess, caring little about the mortal planes and mortal creatures. She fills her eternity by stoking and watching the great storm of the planes, gaining pleasure from its eternal howling. When she does turn her eye to the Prime Material plane, both man and nature often lament, the ground she walks upon torn by ferocious storms. Some legends say that she will meet with a mortal lover once per year in the Endless Desert, and that this meeting is consumated in the terror known to those who dwell on its fringes as the sirocco...
The Plane of air is a vast, unending sky, torn by the gale of an eternal vortex windstorm, rent asunder by great bolts of thunder. With in the winds of the hurricane itself, there is nothing, for no matter can survive the shear, and any living creature hurled into the ethereal tempest is instantly shredded. In the center of the plane, however, there is an eye to the storm. It is here that the cruel and capricious goddess of the wind has chosen to make her home, or rather, it is more correct to say that -she- is the eye of the storm. In the eye of the storm there is a single, crystalline isle, a shell of an adamantine gem, as clear and light as the breeze, and at the center of that stone lies what serves this place as a sun. A jagged, pulsating ball of lightning. The fortress of the Storm Goddess, Arathena, is carven of the same crystal, and is a castle in the fae style. Chips and shards of the crystal are highly prized by arcane casters in the prime material plane, for their properties as both a focuser and a ward against lightning and air realm spells.
There are few inhabitants of the plane of air, beyond air and storm elementals, mostly the dead followers of Arathena, who serve their goddess in death as Thunder Spirits, a terrible creature not unlike the will-o'-wisp, yet one who is enwrapped in lightning, and who may command it in the defense of her mistress, when she needs it; with her favored weapon, the Greatbow of the Avalanche, she needs little defense.
Restrictions:
The chaotic goddess of the wind cannot focus on one thing long enough to bother restricting her handful of children to much at all. Instead, her followers often attempt to find her will in the whisper of the breeze, in the power of the storm, and in the caress of the lightning bolt. They tend towards clothing which is well tied down, yet light, so that they are not carried away in the storms they worship.
Arathena has no formal church, but rather, her priests are most commonly shamans and wizards whose lives are ruled by the storms.

Level 4-7: Gale
Level 8-12: Storm
Level 13-15: Tornado
Level 16-19: Monsoon

Celera, The Life Bringer
Other Names: The Queen of Light, the World-Mother, the All-maker, the Matriarch, the Midwife
Portfolio: Light, Life, Healing, Creation, Restoration, Ressurection, Soothing, Love, Peace
The World-Mother is a bright, and peaceful creature. She aims to further the building of the multiverse, and wishes to fill it with life and light. Many men and women find their way to the worship of Celera, for it is she whose words appear to promise eternal life and peace. Her temples are found scattered across the land, their white, marble spires reaching to the sky, and are often the first and last places sought when a man or woman needs to be healed of injuries, poison, or disease.
Celera rules over the Positive plane, a wide and brilliantly bright land. Here, there is no sun, but rather, a gentle, glowing light pervades the air, ground, buildings, and even the plants. Here, shadow is banished, and any item or effect that sheds darkness does not function. Characters with normal or infravision are treated to gently rolling hills, covered with grass and blooming wildflowers, while characters with ultravison are throughly blinded by the pervading light. The Life Bringer rules her plane from a high, crystalline spire, and at the foot of the spire is a crystal and marble city, full of the eternal souls of her worshippers. Life to these fortunate folk is much the same as life on earth, although Bad Days and Bad Things never quite seem to happen.
The Queen of Light manifests herself as a slender, elven woman, with heel-length golden hair and alabaster skin. She wears a simple, natural colored woolen robe, and her head is crowned with a wreath of the wildflowers which decorate her land. She will not do battle.
Restrictions:
The followers of Celera are expected to oppose the very existance of the undead, slaying them immediately.
The followers of Celera are expected to heal those who require it, reguardless of circumstance, and are forbidden to take the life of a sentient creature.
While not strictly enforced, vegetarianism is encouraged amoung the children of Celera.
The traditional garb of a priest of Celera is a plain or white robe similiar to his Goddesses, and when they carry arms, they are always used to deal subdual damage.
Titles:
Levels 1-3: Midwife
Levels 4-7: Tender
Levels 8-12: Healer
Levels 13-15: Purifier
Levels 16-19: Redeemer
Level 20: Archon
----------------------------
Archael:
The Lord Protector, The White Knight
Archael was once a knight of Utena. However, after a particularly gruesome incident, he found himself debating the righteousness of his order, and in that debate he recognized his downfall. He resigned his knighthood and began to wander the world. After many months of wandering, he began to cross a vast desert, and was caught up in the Eye of the Siracco, the Wind Goddess having been attracted to his wandering ways and his powerful form. After three days and nights of the Storm's passion, however, he was discarded as worn and used up, for no mortal man can match the passion of the storm for very long. As he lay in the desert, broken and dying of both mental and physical exhaustion, he was found again, this time by a Redeemer of Celera searching for those unfortunates who had been caught in one of the greatest storms in written history. He was brought back from the verge of death by this priest, and in the end, he devoted himself to protecting this man's temple, and swore to never slay another living thing. In the end, his protective ways and refusal to kill won the notice of Celera, and as he laid upon his bed dying of age, she reached down to grant him life unending as the Protector of her realm.
He appears as a tall, powerfully built man, clad in beautifully enamled and wrought white plate, and his shield is decorated with living wildflowers..
Restrictions:
Unlike the clerics of Celera, Archael's Paladins are not forbidden to kill. It is known to be a needed task, but they are expected to do everything in their power to keep from taking a life.
A Paladin of Archael must devote himself to a person or an order. They will protect this person or order to the bitter end.
A Paladin of Archael may not wield an edged weapon.

Sharsha, Bethel, Crysheth
The Trumvarte of Water
Other names: The Mistwalker, the Mother of the Sea, The Ice Bringer, The Mistress of Water
Portfolio: Water, Steam, Ice, Protection, Rivers, Seas, Birth
The Mistress of the Plane of Water is a strange and everchanging being, her form not one, but three. As with true water, she can only be in one state at a time, and for each state, there is a purpose.
First is Sharsha, the Mistwalker. This goddess of the first form of water, Steam and Mist. Rarely is she ever seen, but rather, her passing is marked by surrounding cloud of mist. She serves as the messenger of Water to the other planes, and is well known to the Eye of the Maelstrom and to the Tyrant of Flame. In this form, the Mistress of Water touches carefully and gently, gone as soon as it is felt, but if she so chooses, she can burn a man in ways that only the Burning Prince can rival.
Next is Bethel, the Mother of the Sea. Hers is dominion over the liquid form of water, in all its forms, from the vasty ocean to the clear, clean river, to the water in the flask. Her passage too, is light and soft, spreading the potential for growth where she passes. When she is seen, she often chooses to take the shape of a water sprite.
Last of the three is Crysheth, the Ice Bringer. It is Crysheth who stands as the warrior of the Triumvarte, clad in mail of ice. Her favored weapon is the longsword Frost Brand, and its passing leaves a chill cold enough to make the strongest steel as brittle as glass, even as her cold blue eyes and frostily pale skin freeze the soul in fear and awe of beauty.
The Plane of Water is triple layered. On the bottommost layer, it is a deep and infinite sea, warm and tropical in places, and cold and artic in others. Idealized versions of all the children of the sea may be found here, though Beseth is exceptionally fond of the Benthem, a strange race roughly humanoid otters.
The center layer is a divisory layer, vast and uncharted icebergs that float majestically upon the waves of Beseth's sea. Except for the occasional creature who arises from the sea, always to return, the icebergs are barren, yet they are also the mani-fold fortresses of Crysheth, guarded by great golems of ice. The Goddess herself rules over the grandest of these fortresses, and each of the others is commanded by the deceased soul of a frost giant lord, who had served the Goddess with particular furor and faith.
The upper layer of the Plane of Water is a vast sky, filled with fog, mist, and great clouds. Rain and snow are constant here, although only rarely are they accompanied by great winds.
Restrictions:
The children of the Triumvarte are sworn to never pollute the water that they understands sustains them. They will not accept the worship of any creature whose essence is flame.
Once per year, usually in the winter time, when Crysheth provides, the priests of the Triumvarte undergo a purification ritual in which they are first packed in snow or ice in a large pot or barrel, then surrounded by a ring of flame. They must then bear through the change from ice to water, then from water to steam. Though the ritual scalds them faintly, they are not boiled alive, nor do they suffer from excessive frostbite.

Kestreth
The Heart of the Mountain
Other names: The King of Earth, The Smith, Stone Master, The Southern Mountain, The Mountain King, Rockhead(irreverant), Mudman(Irreverant)
Portfolio: Earth, Stone, Metals, Gems, Smithing, Law, Protection
The Smith is a quiet and patient god, capable of waiting millenia for a single thing to occur. So too, is His focus and memory legendary, and it is said that if you tell it to a prayer to the Mountain King, then it shall never be forgotten. While He is not kind, He is slow to anger, and will often think long and hard before He takes any action. Only the Storm Queen can prod Him to instant action, and it will almost always be directed against Her. His great joy comes in the finding and working of metals and gems, and He considers dwarven kind His people, filling them with the love of caves and smithing.
The Plane of Earth, viewed from the outside, would be a great mountain, rising from the mists of nothing. Inside, it is a realm of cool, quiet caves, infinite in their chambers and tunnels. At the very heart of the mountain rests the Smith within His city. He has chosen to make of Himself a dwarf, and He surrounds Himself with them, as well as the gnomes and men who find great joy in the fruits of the Earth. These miners, smiths, and cavers often find that little has changed between life and death, other than that they don't seem to need to take time to take care of the little details like eating, sleeping, fighting, unless they feel like it. Still, the Smith knows that their work keeps them strong for the time that they will be called upon, and He ensures that there will never be a lack of weapons at hand for them. In the deep corners of the plane, the earth elementals congregate, moving amoung their element much like fish might move in a sea.
Should war come to the Plane of Earth, the smiths will gladly throw down their hammers in order to defend their master, and he will lead them, Hammer of the Sirocco in hand.
Restrictions:
The Earth God requires that His priests adhere to a strict code of conduct, one that is, quite literally, hewn into stone. The dust and chips that are removed to carve the words are carried in a small leather pouch that smells of warm earth, and it is this pouch that serves as their holy symbol. Though they may dictate this code by themselves, any time that they should break it, the pouch that they carry disintegrates, the rock dust carried away by the wind.. To recarve the stone requires a quest of atonement.
The priests of Kestreth are not allowed to leave the ground voluntarily. To jump is a minor sin, to conciously choose and cause oneself to fly a mortal sin.
The children of Kestreth meet monthly in a formal mass, one that is always held beneath the ground. In this time, the priest speaks to them of the will of the Mountain King, and councils them in the matters that require patience.

Jobrill
Lord of the Dead
Other Names: The Decaying King, Keeper Of Darkness, The Plaguebringer, The Black One
Portfolio: Darkness, Death, Disease, Destruction, Decay, Undeath, Suffering, Hate, Fear
The Lord of the Dead is a dark and fearsome creature. His goal is quite simple: He wishes the death of every creature in the multiverse, and the ultimate entropy of the multiverse. His dark ways repel the majority of demihumankind, yet there are those few men and women, primarily those of dark and evil races who would aid him in his path of destruction. As such, the Plaguebringer has no clerics as other gods do, but rather, he is worshipped and obeyed by the foulest of the foul: Necromancers and Dread Knights.
Jobrill rules over the Negative Plane, a horrible and terrifying place where mortals do not belong. The Realm of the Keeper of Darkness is pitch black, and no light sources of any manner function in this plane. Fires are immediately extinguished, as are spells of light, while endless light spells, magic items, and artifacts simply fail to shed light. Characters with normal vision and infravision are completely blind, and the sense of smell is overcome by the smell of putrid, diseased flesh. Characters with ultravision, who can see as clearly as noon, immediately realize why. They are standing on an infinite, rotting and bloated corpse. Jobrill himself rules from a giant castle of carven bone, decorated with tapestries of still living and rotting flesh, creatures full of exquisite pain.
Jobrill manifests as a giant of a humanoid, a shade taller than twelve feet. His race is indeterminate, for his skin and face are corrupted by a horrible, black fungus, and he has no hair or ears. He is naked, except for a tattered loin cloth, and prefers to fight with no weapon. Instead, his touch inflicts a wide variety of magical and non-magical diseases, bringing them immediately through any incubation period, and he may channel Negative Energy in both beam and area attacks.
Restrictions
All of Jobrill's followers are expected to battle against the mortal and extraplanar minions of Celera.
Jobrill's followers are expected to maliciously spread death and plagues, even though it will make them at risk of death by mobbing. Accordingly, Jobrill's followers are very rare, many of them slain early.
Jobrill's followers have no real code of dress, but rather, they carry a pendant carven of bone as a profane symbol and as identification to each other. Should this pendant fall into the hands of one not of the faith, it will cause them to sicken and die of a horrible disease that rots the flesh to liquid.

She appears as a shriveled drow with leathery skin, and, in addition to her powers as a knight of Jobrill, she has full access to the necromancer spellbook, all necromantic magics, and all the benefits of lichhood.

Zevarith
The Dancing Flame
Other Names: The Cleansing Flame, The Rising Sun, The Phoenix King, Ashbringer, Quicksilver, the Burner (Irreverent), Twice-Torched (Irreverent)
Portfolio: Fire, Heat, Light, Motion, Battle, Destruction, Rebirth
Zevarith is a capricous, everchanging god, altered in form and mood between the blinks of an eye, yet He is constant and unchanging in His everfluid motion. He chooses to manifest Himself as a human or elven man, with burning red hair and an ash streaked face. He wears strange mail that flows like quicksilver, and bears a spear of flame in combat.
His is dominion over rebirth, and there is little more that He enjoys than to burn something to ashes, only so that it can be remade. So too is He fond of war, viewing it as a method to scourge weakness and darkness from the earth, while having a little fun.
The Plane of Fire only serves to reflect and strengthen His desires, a dry, tinder forests and wind swept plains of dried grasses are ignited in the morning by a rain of volcanic ash, and in the night, when they have burnt to the ground, they spring up anew from the ashes by the rebirth of the Phoenix. In the center of the plane rests the Volcano of Zevarith, a massive peak that serves as his fortress. His throne of molten lava rests inside, in the fumarole, a place that is never the same from day to day. There, He is surrounded by his gladiators and dancers, the souls of those whose lives burnt most brightly in life.
Beyond His once-mortal servants, the most notable inhabitant of the Plane of Fire is the Phoenix. A great and terrible creature, the only of his kind, the Phoenix is a giant, eagle like bird, his plumage containing all the hues of the flame, for his feathers are indeed made of raw fire. His wingspan is a full 70 foot, and he bears daily a saddle wrought of the finest oilwoods lit aflame so that Zevarith may mount the Phoenix as a steed in battle. Should the Phoenix be slain by either man or god, his corpse will immediately catch and burn, scorched to naught but death, and he shall be reborn in a massive eruption of the Volcano of Zevarith, full of burning rage.
Restrictions:
Priests of the Dancing Flame have few formal restrictions, but are instead follow the example of their Lord and Master. They are nearly impossible to tie down to a single place, group of people, or even a single lover, instead prefering to move down the road to meet the next group of people, and to ignite the next flame of passion. They are quick of temper, and similarly quick to forgive and forget once the burning sensations of the fight have subsided. They are frequently skilled fighters, dancers, and musicians, and the fire in their eyes has its own seductive qualities.
Priests of Zevarith are -not- restricted from any weapon, and are in fact expected to proficient in at least one, most commonly the spear.

#26And finally, Eriol and Tyrin - I mentioned them earlier, but here's the writeup.
-----------
Eriol, Lord of Steel
Other names: Swordmaster, The Blade of Honor, The Eternal Warrior, Lord of Valor, The Dull Blade (irrevrent), The Oathbound (irrevrent)
Portfolio: Honor, combat, good, valor, courage, war, guardians, weapons
Eriol is the honorable god of combat, noble counterpart of Tyrin, the Dark Lord of War. While not directly involved in the war between the Trinity of the Rose, he has pledged his aid to Utena on the day of the final battle between her and Akio. Given his position as one of the two gods of war, his followers may well turn the tide that day - and at their forefront will be the shining armored form of Eriol himself, his greatsword held aloft in one mighty hand as he leads the charge into the battle atop his warbeast.
Taking the form of a youthful warrior with a single scar across his face, the mark of Tyrin's own divine weapon from when the two first clashed, he cuts a heroic figure, with shoulder-length raven-black hair and emerald eyes that blaze with the furious joy of the battle. He wears heavy plate mail, the metal decorated with runes that enhance his strength and speed, allowing him to wield his greatsword Kirita with one hand. Wherever he goes, his warbeast - an immense creature that is rumored to be a nightmare bred to be the opposite alignment of its Abyssal kin - follows, the shining white of its hair matching perfectly with the shining silver of the barding it wears.
While not the ruler of the plane of Celestis, he holds a sizable Realm on the plane, a vast isle that glides silently through the heavens at his bidding, allowing the souls of his followers to join battle wherever they might be needed in the plane. When not engaged in battle against foes, Eriol's followers train on immense parade grounds which somehow merge flawlessly with the isle's natural beauty - and each night, no matter how much blood may have been spilled upon the ground, the slain and wounded are revived by Eriol's power, and the damage done by battle and training is mended by the plane's nature.
Eriol rules over the Realm from the center of the isle, either training with the most elite of his followers or looking for the next place where his divine forces are needed. His stronghold is a shining castle of purest white marble, rising atop a soft, grassy hill and reflecting the eternal light of the plane's golden skies in a soft aura that can be seen from any point in the Realm.
Restrictions:
Followers of Eriol are required to be of good alignment, first and foremost, and encouraged to be lawful, although those of neutral or chaotic bearing are accepted as long as their hearts are pure and strong.
Servants of Eriol must always be ready for battle. This occasionally causes disputes, as some cities dislike having armed warriors within their walls when not part of the city guard. Often, this is solved by the Knights of Eriol joining the town guard.
Priests of Eriol are required to heal any ally who needs it, and any foe who surrenders in battle. However, any who betray the priest's good faith are sentenced to death, as betrayal of another is the worst sin in Eriol's faith.
Knight of Eriol are required to protect the innocent and the weak, even to the point of death if so needed. Those who fight to the death for a noble cause are accorded the greatest honor at burial, and those who succeed in their task even in death are among the holiest of the deceased followers of this god.
Followers of Eriol tend to wear comfortable clothing that fits well, when not garbed for war, and almost always bear a weapon at their side, even to the dinner table. On the battlefield, they favor the heavier armors, and the sight of a host of the Knights of Eriol is an awesome sight, with his warriors bearing down across a battlefield in shining palte mail, astride warhorses of the purest white, the sun flashing from their weapons like wildfire.
Even when not at war, the servants of this god wear a bracer on their left arms, a silver-etched piece of armor bearing the stylized image of Kirita as their holy symbol. In the hands of a nonbeliever, the bracer rusts away, crumbling into useless flakes of metal in mere moments.
Titles:
Levels 1-3: Disciple of Steel
Levels 4-7: Knight of the Shield
Levels 8-12: Knight of the Blade
Levels 13-15: Knight of Steel
Levels 16-19: Lord of the Blade
Level 20: Lord of Steel
--------------------------
Tyrin, Dark Lord of Iron
Other Names: Dark Lord of War, Bloodletter, Lifeslayer, The Executioner, The Cruel Blade, Warlord of Pain, The Blunted Blade (irrevrent), The Bleeding One (irrevrent)
Portfolio: Combat, war, victory, rage, glory, weapons, guile, berserkers, evil
Tyrin is the vicious counterpart to Eriol, the Lord of Steel. Residing on the plane of Sellice, he rules over a vicious Realm of blood and pain, where his followers endlessly war on each other in a vicious contest to see who is the superior gathering of forces. However, at nightfall each night, his followers - who believe they die when they're slain - are reborn, without memory, to rejoin the war. However, where his good counterpart has sworn to aid Utena, Tyrin has pledged his aid to neither side - a strange thing, as he normally instantly supports the side Eriol opposes.
Taking the form of a grizzled warrior whose body is covered in countless wounds that stain his armor a bloody crimson, his hair matted by the blood of his foes, Trin is the personification of all that is grim and cruel in war. His warbeast always accompanies him, an immense reptilian creature that seems carved from the stuff of nightmare itself, giving him a dark aura of madness when he rides it, clad in his midnight black armor decorated with shining gold runes. At all times he carries with his his greatsword, the blacksteel counterpart to Eriol's weapon; the weapon carries with it a faint violet aura, the malevolent energy of the blade visible as it leaks from the weapon.
Tyrin calls the plane of Selice his home, and makes his Realm among the bleak mountains of the second layer, with his army continually warring on the mountain plateaus and in the caverns which honeycomb the jagged, cruel peaks, uniting into a single force only when an outside force intrudes upon the Realm. As a result the air of this bleak Realm reeks of blood and death, and continually rings with the thunder of weapons continually clashing, interspersed with the chilling sounds of agony being cut short by the merciless blades of warriors as they slaughter helplessly wounded foes.
Tyrin rules from a foreboding citadel carven from the tip of the highest peak in his Realm, the black stone taking on an unnatural look as Tyrin's resence lends it an unearthly feel, causing the walls to shine with fresh blood and the narrow arrow slits to seem almost like malevolent eyes focusing upon intruders. From here, Tyrin plans his war against his counterpart, Eriol, and prepares his warriors for the end battle. Of all his followers, only the most loyally bloodthirsty ever enter this citadel, and of them, only the most fearsome serve as anything other than continual tests for the god's battle skills.
Restrictions:
Followers of Tyrin must be versed in the arts of combat. Even mages who follow this vicious god are able to handle themselves in combat without their magic.
Any challenge must be answered, even if foolhardy. Tyrin's followers are forbidden from backing down from a fight.
Priests of Tyrin are required to serve in any role needed for combat - medic, warrior, and general as they're needed.
Knights of Tyrin are required to seek out the Knights of Eriol any chance they find and battle to the death.
Followers of Tyrin are rarely without arms and armor, save in the most delicate social situations, such as approaching an emperor who will absolutely not allow such things near him. Even in such situation, Tyrin's followers can be trusted to try slipping at least a dart or stilletto into the area, so as to avoid being totally defenseless. They favor weapons made of blacksteel, and prefer to emblazon their armor with runes telling of their deeds.
Titles:
Levels 1-3: Disciple of Shields
Levels 4-7: Knight of the Axe
Levels 8-12: Knight of the Sword
Levels 13-15: Knight of Battle
Levels 16-19: Lord of Battle
Level 20: Warlord of Blood -
These Are Our Gods
#27Atimos, the Mad God - Atimos was originally a comparatively minor god. That aspect was the Keeper of Ways, god of gateways, doors, locks, seals, and other such things. His greatest creation and responsibility was the Nine Great Gates, the gates that led into the stronghold of the gods, and guarded that which needed to be. During the Great War of the Gods, Ganasil, Breaker of Worlds, and his forces attacked. His chief lieutenant, Kalandrith, the Breaker of Locks (and chief foe of Atimos) managed to capture a few minor gods, Atimos among them. They took Atimos's great keys, and with them opened the Nine Gates. They very nearly won the Great War due to that; it was only due to an alliance of usual enemies, plus the rarer still direct intervention of the twin gods of fate and chance, that Ganasil was defeated. (Ganasil and a few of his lieutenants had greatly offended the Lord of Destiny and the Lady of Chance, but that is a tale for another time). Atimos was driven mad by a combination of the torture he had recieved at the hands of his captors and the knowledge that he had not been able to keep them from the Gates. In his madness, his power grew, and he slew Kalandrith. Atimos is now associated with madness in all it's forms, and vengance (especially vengance satisfied in madness.)
Ganasil, Breaker of Worlds - Ganasil is the Great Evil, father of all evils and woes. During the Great War of the Gods, he took advantage of the other gods' distractions with themselves and attacked. He gained entry to the Nine Great Gates, and entered the strong hold of the gods. Only by a hastily formed alliance of the gods was he defeated. Even then, he might have been successful, had Ganasil not offended the Lady of Luck and her brother. Drunk with his successes, Ganasil had tried to persuade Lady Chance to join him, but was rebuffed. Angered, he attempted to force the issue, and only managed to infuriate her. He had also offended her brother, the Lord of Destiny, not only by trying to force his sister into an alliance. Ganasil had, in the early days of the war, raped Kasana, the Oracle, the consort of the Lord of Destiny. Lord Fate had been quietly planning revenge, but after the incident with his sister, the two of them openly opposed Ganasil. This tipped the balances, and Ganasil was defeated and imprisoned.
It is said that Lord Fate has never forgiven Ganasil, and that is why the forces of evil are fated to be defeated in the end.
Kasana, the Oracle - the Oracle is the patron goddess of seers and oracles, and the beloved of the Lord of Destiny. She is a comparatively minor goddess. She has four children: Hope and Foresight (fathered by her husband), and Despair and Fear (offspring of Ganasil). -
These Are Our Gods
#28Mind if I continue from yours, Ria?
Bul'mentha, God of despair - Torn between destiny and Destruction - bieng the offpring of Kasana the oracle and Ganasil, breaker of worlds - Bul'mentha is nothing but outcast in the eyes of all gods, even his own parents. As a result, this minor god withdrew into depression, seeking refuge in himself and shutting himself away. Few, if any, worship him, but most feel the effects that this god brings upon the mortal world, at some point of time. The only solace Bul'mentha has, is him making mortals feel - to a lesser extent - what he has felt ever since his birth. Some call him harmless, but the wise know that despair and sorrow can kill a man.
O'lorè, acolyte of fear - The Acolyte of fear, birthed of the Oracle and the Breaker of worlds, Was outcast, just like his brother, but instead of disliking his outcast, he revelled in it - after all, was not he the spawn of time and evil? He was far superior to all the other immortals, to his eyes, and as a result, he left the stronghold of the gods and entered the mortal realm. For hundreds of mortal years after his birth, he was not heard of again. All gods, barring Kasana herself, thought him gone for good, perhaps torn apart during his transferral to mortal lands. Kasana, though, foresaw the trouble her bastard son would make, and tried in vain to talk to the other gods to stop him. Since Kasana was regarded as a minor goddess, however, her warnings came unanswered. Several centuries after O'lorè left, the gods noticed that something was amiss in the mortal realm - It seemed there was more war and violence than usual. Races were becoming afraid and mistrustful of each other, and people seemed more reluctant to step out at night. The history of mortals was bieng rewritten in blood. The gods realised now, their mistake. They had unleashed fear into the world, and that fear was the basis of all death and destruction Since O'lorè was now in mortal guise, he was undetectable to the gods, and ever since, there has always been some form of conflict in the world at one time. The gods choice was to either allow fear to plague the mortal realm, or to destroy all mortals. They decided to allow the fear. O'lorè is unknown by all mortals, and none worship him directly. -

Aviontix
#31What little we know of these dieties comes from second party references and puzzled out pictographs. No one knows how to translate the language of the Aviontix peoples, so all that is left is their crumbling giant monuments and tombs.
Their dieties were always seen as a human with the head of a bird. From second hand sources, it seems that heaven and all spirits were associated with sky and birds. Thus things that flew were holy for these folks.
Sunbird: The Sun and fire were the manifestation of the divine upon the material world.
Eagle: Force of Nature- God of Sky and Weather
Hawk: Warrior, keeper of Order
Falcon: A noble diety, patron of that class. Seems to be male or female at whim.
Dove: Goddess of Peace and Mercy
Swan: Goddess of Beauty and Art
Gull: Madcap god of the Sea and Water.
Owls: Watchman of Death/ Chaos/ Darkness. A wise diety.
Raven: God of Death. Ravens took souls and other things.
The Cat: This creature would have a unique place in the pantheon of Aviontix. There would be a cat goddess, and she would be both alligned with but acting against the raven. Perhaps Cats are seen as a way to prevent excesses via magic or spirits.
The Aviontix believed in reincarnation. Many of their dieties and heroes have reincarnated over time.
The Hawkstar: A hero that keeps coming back to undo Evil done by man in the world. He is a warrior that uses ancient weapons and can summon a pair of wings (if desired). Current manifestation has him fighting a corrupt theocracy....
Dove and Hawk: These spirits guide pairs who must maintain the balance between the violence and peace to maintain order. Those so endowed gain great strength and durrability.
The Raven: This one does not appear as a bird based villian/ hero. However, the god sends out avatars from time to time to create death and chaos for him to feed off of. Currently the Raven is a high Bishop in the Corrupted Theocracy, only a few steps from the HighOne. -
The Four Dragons and the Four Fiends
#32The Four Dragons and the Four Fiends are a pantheon that I made up after playing Lunar for a while.
In this pantheon, there are four dragons, and only four, and they are gods. They are opposed by four fiends, and only four, and they are demons.
The Fiends seek to usurp the dragons, and to this end, often take the shape of dragons themselves, though these forms are twisted and evil, in opposition to the beauty and nobility of the Dragons.
Red Dragon: The God of Fire, Passion, Skill, and Emotion.
White Dragon: The God of Air, Law, Wisdom, and Civilization.
Black Dragon: The Goddess of Earth, the Night, Silence, and Thought.
Blue Dragon: The Goddess of Water, Healing, Kindness, and the Arts.
Red Fiend: The God of Volcanism, Madness, Combat, and Rage.
White Fiend: The God of Winter, Tyranny, Secrets, and the desecration of nature.
Black Fiend: The Goddess of Stone, Darkness, Death, and Obsession.
Blue Fiend: The Goddess of Storms, Disease, Cowardice, and the making of weaponry. -
The Gods of Zetacron
#33The Gods of Zetacron
Context: The gods of Zetacron are physically present in the world.
You can go and meet them if you like. Additionally, they are very
human, with flaws and quirks -- possibly more than regular people.
The Gods:
Zeus, The Creator: Zeus is the divine creator and lord of all Zeta. He
is so moody and filled with angst that his own priests keep people
from seeing him out of embarrassment.
Ares, God of War, Combat, and Prowess: Ares is the master of every
weapon, fighting style, gymnastic move, and sport that the world has
ever seen. He's even tried his hand in poetry (and may the gods help
you if you have to hear it). Unfortunately, he's not the friendliest
bloke. He's about as arrogant, acidic, selfish, poor-tempered as
Quetzalcoatl is hard to pronounce.
Erat, Divine Artist: A giant man with big black boots, Erat likes to
eat, laugh, and make beautiful art with his surprisingly gentle
hands. The lord of all that is creative, and the visual artist
responsible for each evening's sunset, he is known to spontaneously
appear after artists create particularly moving pieces, and grant them
boons.
Gaia, Nature Incarnate: From her hairy legs to her ankle-length matted
hair, Gaia defends the world against the atrocities of mankind's
progress, whatever the cost.
Ire, The Healer: She's tall, she's strong, she's a tyrant if she
doesn't like you - she's Ire, the goddess of healing! It's her fault
that nobody may be raised from the dead on Zeta: "If he was too stupid
to live the first time, why should he get a second chance?"
Loki, King of Thieves: Although he looks (and smells) like a hobo most
of the time, Loki is a master of the con, the hustle, and
disguise. Sadly, this doesn't stop him from drinking himself into
oblivion and crashing in public parks. Do not leave him alone with
your kids.
Poseidon, God of the Sea, Drinking, and Smithwork: A brooding gaunt
fellow, Poseidon lurks at the bottom of the ocean, forging things on
his magic anvil, brewing things in his magic brewery, and cooking the
finest cuisine the world has ever seen.
Thanatos, God of Knowledge: Thanatos, from his labyrinthine library
lair, is the master of both magic and technology, but not of the wise
use of either. He goaded the ancient dwarves into overdeveloping their
technology to the point of self-destruction. Thanks, Thanatos - the
dwarves sure love you now!
Orion, God of the Northern Hunt: Orion, and all of his followers, are
nutters. They get off on climbing unscalable mountains, just to jump
off again. Orion creates the most frightening abominations the world
has ever seen, just to hunt them down with a knife and not much
else. And this is before breakfast!
Moreau, The Hermit: Moreau lives inside a forbidding rock in
treacherous waters - there are no doors, windows, or openings of any
kind. Very little is known about the hermit - some say that he will
come out at the end of the world, some say that he's so hideous that
if the sun shone upon his face, it would go out. Most agree that he is
the most powerful of the gods - sort of an absentee landlord.
Quetzalcoatl, The Malign Presence: It came from Outside the world,
eons ago. Most of the gods say Loki let It in. Loki says he didn't. It
is the personification of evil - It created the Reavers, a monstrous
race that are virtually unkillable - It is amorphous, a dark cloud
taking the shape of whatever is most useful to it at the time. It
feeds on suffering, grief, and woe. Fear It. Oh: and don't worry if
you can't pronounce Its name. Nobody else can, either.
-Shawn. -
These Are Our Gods
#34Interesting, that bit about Quetzalcoatl (by the way, that's pronounced ket-zuhl-coh-at-uhl). Did you know that he was actually a somewhat beneficial god in Aztec mythology?
Why is the Healer so tyrannical? That seems highly out-of-character for a god of healing.
Thanatos is a name for death. Does he have something to do with death as well? -

#35Thanatos - from where does Euthanasia come... guess. Or Thanatophorous dysplasia. Thanatos = death. Phorein = bear, bring. Eu = means happy, joyous. Thus Eu-angelion = happy message, Eu-ropa = merry shores.
Cortez was mistaken for Quetzalcoatl, the pale god of ... learning and the sun? i guess. By the Aztecs, anyway. He was though to be less bloodthirsty than the other Aztec gods (think again, suckers) and his coming was meant to predict a new age of bliss (for whom?)
As for the healer, it's an amusing twist... perhaps she got the job by chance, and is pissed off at people eating poisonous berries, then complaining to HER, or doing extreme sports and then breaking their bones, and asking HER for help, or having kids, and then pleading her to help deliver those buggers! So that there are more stupid people around who go and hurt themselves... -

She's an atypical goddess (like most of them). No nonsense,
solidly built, doesn't have time for whiners. There are nurses
in the real world like that:

(I think a lot of medical professionals get tired of
whiney patients sometimes).
She amuses me. :)

Just because we see healing as a merciful thing, does not mean every culture does. The warrior's society's diety of healing (if there was such) would not be a nice person, but perhaps an agent of Evil who kept warriors out of warrior's heaven by not letting them die of battle wounds.
Just thoughts on the subject -
These Are Our Gods
#38Mammon , Valermoorian God of Money. Apart from a few *main* temples in the biggest cities, the banks and the bigger bisnesses have little shrines to him.Although he is not a Thieves God as such, many criminals worship him as well. There are many rumours of his aiding worshippers through miricles, although some, perhaps most, are myths. -
These Are Our Gods
#39I knew a lady who had her own "kitchen god," the Turnpike Goddess. This diety supposedly watched out for her while driving along turnpikes/highways/freeways. As long as she always did the right thing--use turn signals when changing lanes, etc.--then she would arrive safely at her destination on time. One of the Turnpike Goddess's rules was that no matter how fast you drove, someone would always pass you. By failing to placate the TG, this speeding person would zoom ahead into a line at the toll booth, which would then slow down so that whomever gave proper propriations would then get into the faster lane, and be further ahead than the speedster. While the TG's abilities extended only to open roads on long-distance journeys, she could supposedly always hear what was said about her, so it was ill-advised to make fun of someone professing belief in her.
The following are the faiths from the Midian Dark Fantasy Role-playing game:
Religions, Faiths, & Beliefs
Most churches in Midian are moral belief structures & guidelines rather than a system that contains a deific figurehead (or many such) and an afterlife. The belief in an eternal soul is not widely held. It is interesting to note that the Elves have no religion of their own (just 'The Way'), as they do not recognise any deity-hood. It is also interesting to note that the Dwarves had no religion prior to being influenced by other races (particularly Humans), and practiced a form of ancestor-reverenceâ€â€Âgrandparents & great-grandparents are still highly regarded in Dwarven society.
Main Faiths
Bhahi (ba-hE'): This is undoubtedly the most widespread religion, having followers in nearly every country. This is not a very populous faith, having few members in spite of their geographic dispersal. They believe that all religions have the same source and that all men are equal before God. They believe in peace and an end to prejudice.
Some that follow this faith have a very humanocentric view. In other words, there are a number of Human supremacists within the Bhahi church. They are a small, but often violent, minority. This is one of the oldest Human faiths, dating back to before Humanity arrived in the middle-lands. The tenets of the faith, as written, do not cover whether or not other sentient species should be included in the unity of mankind. This is what the Human supremacists use for their arguments. The teachings of the faith, in spirit rather than by twisting any literal meaning, are opposed to any sort of hate crime. The antisocial nature of many of these Human supremacists, and their hate crimes, banish many of their less than savoury acts to nighttime secrecy.
The Church of Melchom (mel-kom'): This is the merchants' friend. This god of wealth and commerce is believed to be non-sentient, but is instead an unknowable mathematical concept. This is the closest that the Byzant Empire has to an official religion, and is commonly believed to be practiced by the Emperor. The Pope is a common visitor to the Imperial palace.
Church of the Red God: This is a warrior's faith. Practiced primarily in the Heldannic Confederation and the Killian Empire. This is possibly the most dominant true religion, but has little influence. The Red God is rage personified, and is revered as an ideal rather than worshipped. The priesthood is effectively an order of church-militant. Many sages have connected this 'god' to the Dragon Chao Kung Ming, which may be the deity's true identity.
Stryfe (strIf or strife): Also called Bringer of Chaos and Flame-Spider (due to his symbolâ€â€Âan 8-pointed star). This is a relative newcomer to the faiths of Midian, being less than 80 years old. This would probably be considered a Demon cult if not for the rapid rise of this church's influences. There is no central temple for this religion, but is most commonly found in southern Formour.
The Temple of Light: Followers of the Prophet Mammon, this is the official state religion of the Kingdom of Formour & is the religion practiced by its royal family. The evangelical (and often fanatic) followers of this belief structure have a large following with socially powerful members. This is not a true religion as there is no godhead, but is instead a moral belief system. Having great support, there is a degree of corruption in this church's establishment. The Cardinal of Assisi in particular has great power and is feared by those under his fist. This religion follows 'The Book of the Cannon,' from which many of Formour's laws are taken. The church has founded two different knightly orders; most notable are the "Knights of the Temple)."
Cults
It bears noting that many cultists do not consider themselves such. They may consider their belief system just as valid as any who practice one of the more popular faiths. Alternately they may feel that they are not true examples of a religious person, being instead someone who merely feels a particular way about something (such as many Druids), or that they are simply out to get something for themselves. Cultists are occasionally referred to as 'witches'. While this term denotes someoneâ€â€Âof either genderâ€â€Âwith magical power, it refers just as equally to an atheistic herbalist out in the wilderness as it does to the vilest followers of Demons.
Azat-Wicce (az"-at wE'-sE): This is one of the most well-known (& often feared) Demon-cults. With nearly every member being a wizard, witch, or herbalist, this cult has a great deal of power at its disposal. The Demon Azat has corrupted many with promises of mystical power & knowledge.
The Black Church: More of an anti-church than a religion, the followers of this faith believe only in themselves and their own abilities. This faith is often considered to be a Demon cult, but nothing could be further from the truth. Allying themselves with a diabolical force goes against their core beliefs of self-reliance and survival of the fittest.
The Church of Hugh: This is a 'feel good' kind of religion with strong moral values. The church places greater emphasis on learning an ethical lesson from a sinful act than on punishment for that act. One of the basic tenants is that a loving god is incompatible with a vindictive one." Well, Beaver, have you learned your lesson?"
Eco-Druids: While not a common church, the followers are quite vocal and often violent in their beliefs. This is more of an informal ecological terrorist organisation with religious overtones than an actual church. They are willing to 'sacrifice to the world-mother' those that they consider to defile the land. This is often considered a splinter druidic faithâ€â€Âmostly from their nameâ€â€Âthat espouses the destruction of all sentients. Most would simply like to live in a clean & happy world, but the more vocal & violent members overshadow them.
Gates of Ryleth (rI'-leth): A small, but quite frightening cult. These are those who worship the dread Old Ones and work to conjure them from the heavens.
Revenants: Worships the death-lord Bhaal. These drug-enhanced assassins & terrorists feel that to die for their faith ensures a blissful afterlife.
Wicce-Druids (wE"-sE droo'-ids): The original druidic faith & one of the oldest known Human religions. This was once one of the more prevalent faiths, but subsequent ideological splintering has reduced the numbers of followers in all branches greatly. This cult was inspired by Humanity's first contacts with the Elves. This is an attempt by Humans to codify and assimilate the Elven "Way." Few Elves still consider themselves members of this faithâ€â€Âfew ever didâ€â€Âbut there are those that still remain to teach the mortals the superior ways of Elvenkind. The incorporation of older Human beliefsâ€â€Âalong with the splintering into different factionsâ€â€Âdiscouraged most of the Elven supporters. It is important to note that most Elves do not consider themselves practitioners of this faith, or of any religion; this is simply the "Way" that they do things. -
The Supreme god of the Eshal
#40THE OLD ONE: The Old One is the living core of Tarrod.Springing from the womb of Vaet when the being known as the Creator Serpent impregnated her,the Old One immediately begun ejecting a foam from her pelvis, out of which sprang all creation, and the various lakes and lagoons that cover most of Tarrod's surface and the Gods themselves. But this task so tired and weakened here, that she immediately fell into a deep slumber from which she never awoke. It was not death, but merely a state of stasis in which she wil always lie.The foam continues to pour from her still, nourishing the waters of Tarrod and the beings that depend on them for thier life. But this takes a terrible toll on the health of the Old One.As eons pass, the life giving foam seeping out of her continues to drain her of her health.Ultimately there comes a point of time when the Gods themselves must die to feed and replenish her strength. The blood they spill when they slay themselves to keep the life giving foam flowing, restores her to full energy.Though the Gods sacrifice themsleves, their death is but temporary.Out of the blood that remains, they emerge whole and new once again.
