Re: Cosmic Era Game

Is there a free spot for a rogue Echo?
I'd fill that spot nicely!
Of course. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#42So, what do we have?
A street samurai (both 'samurai' and 'street' being rather literal)?
A siebertronian ranger?
And Caesar, a hacker?
That leaves me to play a psychic mutant misfit!
Yay!

Re: Cosmic Era Game
#43I've been thinking (world shudders momentarily:)) about my character. I'd like to ditch the augmen aspect of him, and go with just a normal human hacker. As before, he's been involved in crime before, and is a mercenary type guy. I also have one idea about his back-story- I'll PM you the details.
axelrowes- let's ditch this brotherhood thing. We don't have to be related, like Dozus said. And since Dozus has all ready finalized his guy, let's all be strangers brought together by this fixer.
And Echo- good to have you with us. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#44deal
and I don't feel the need to have my character have in political aspirations or even any strong political opinions...."his whole world is the trail of the game and the level of his rifle scope" -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#45Wünderbar! Then we're well on our way.
Scras, what do we need to do in terms of stats/character sheets? -

Wünderbar! Then we're well on our way.
Scras, what do we need to do in terms of stats/character sheets?
The basics
Str, Dex, Con, Int, Perception, Cha
any merits or flaws you'd like to have
Equipment, special abilities, body modifications, etc

#47If something isn't right, or there is power gaming potential, etc I will address it. I am hoping all of you will be on board with creating responsible character stats and whatnot. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#48So, here is my guy (that is, if our lord and master of the universe Scrasamax deigns to grant his approval).
Brian Bolles, hacker extraordinaire:
Brian was born in the New York arcoplex to a family of four. He lived near the bad side of town, near where the criminals would play. When Brian was thirteen, his father got involved in a certain gang. The exact events were never revealed, but the police suspected the fire was a result of Brian's father not paying up. Whatever did happen, both of Brian's parents died as their house fell to the flames. Brian was the only survivor. Lacking any relatives to go to, he was sent to foster care, where he became known as a cold, pessimistic, and cynical child. "Who can blame him?" the owner of the foster care, Matilda Watkins, would say. "After all, his house was firebombed. Nasty business."
It was at foster care where he met Lorenz Hoffman. Lorenz was an older child, hailing from Germany, who was involved with another of New York's gangs- the Pure. The Pure were an anti-augmen gang, who regularly attacked augmens, and especially neo-ethnics. Lorenz gave Brian the basics of how to hack. Eventually, after Lorenz passed the Pure's initiation rite, he convinced (easily- Lorenz was Brian's mentor figure) Brian to join the Pure. There, Brian gained a new family.
Time passed. Brian became a better and better hacker. He gained some basic self-defense skills, which is unavoidable when you're in a gang, but not any real skills. He go by with brains and hacking than anything else. Eventually, the Pure treaded on Nip- a Nipponese gang- turf. Gang warfare broke out, and the Pure lost. Brian managed to survive by abandoning New York. It was pure coincidence that a police task force raided the Pure's headquarter the day after he had left.
Brian became a freelance mercenary after that, doing jobs for anyone with money. He cultivated contacts (through which the Fixer that's hiring us contacted him), robbed the rich (not because he's Robin Hood, but because the rich have more money than the poor), and occasionally indulged in ruining augmen and neo-ethnic lives (but not too much, in case the law enforcement got him). His time with the Pure had either enhanced or started his bigotry towards the cybernetically enhanced.
Technical Stuff:
Brian typically wears non-nondescript, practical clothes. He can easily blend in if he needs to. All his worldly possessions is in a backpack, that he wears constantly. In it, he has his laptop, an old book on hacking, and his Cardjacker- and, naturally, a cloaked to hide all his illegal stuff. He also has the bland stuff- money, clothes, hygiene, two extra identities, etc. He also bears two knives in special holsters on his arms that he can take out at a moment's notice. His hacking skills easily allow him to get his knives past puny metal detectors any other such devices. He generally only uses his knifes when he has to. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#49What better time to post my character than after Caesar's "little hater"? :D
Tel'issare "Blue" Witherwind
'The Eternal Conflict' was the most recent incarnation of the WoW franchise, with more immersion due to better technology; the imagery was exaggerated but strong and catchy.
There was the usual fair share of addicts, ones who'd never unplug who'd live on an i.v. drip.
Bruno Bilderberg was obsessed as well, that is true, but more with the imagery than with gameplay, and connected to reality well enough to allow his twisted genius to run a megacorporation; at most, his choice of staff uniforms and job titles drew comment. Most corporations don't call their quality assurance officers 'paladins', that's true.
Bruno's restlessness and obsession was furthered by the 'imperfection' of reality, especially the women that a megacorp's head would meet - gold-diggers, social climbers, thoroughbred high society daughters so stuck up they hovered; none had the degree of perfection comparable to his beloved heroines, none teased his fancy as much as aberrant creatures of fantasy.
Thus, he ordered one, custom-made: a Draenei, horned and hooved, yet comely and fey, and special in a dozen ways a perverted mind can think of.
He'd wanted his toy adoring and loyal, eager and pleasing, sufficiently smart to entertain.
Whether due to dumb chance or by the workings of enemies, the gene stocks used in the lab were not as inteded, but rather from inmates, known for violence, destruction, a malicious intellect and an undimmable independence.
Understandably, the behavioral conditioning did not take as well as planned; also, discontent with just owning, Bilderberg delighted in games of humiliation and power. After years of use and abuse at the hands of the plutarch, who deemed himself to be in absolute control, the toy lashed out.
No one could have planned or foreseen the outbreak of psychic power that accompanied the backlash, as the slave tore his master into pieces and painted the suite red with his blood.
The walls of the manor could not hold the furious psychic, and neither could the response team.
Dazzled by the sights of the arcology, drunk with newfound thought and emotion and roused by the smell of blood, Blue would have been picked off sooner or later, if not picked up by Jerico Crane, fixer, scoundrel and part-time philosopher.
Crane immediately saw the benefit of having someone capable of throwing cars (without touching them, too) in good standing.
Today, he laughs at the way the blue neo-ethnic picked him up and chided him: "Never approach unannounced." Nervously, the fixer had shrugged and replied: "The streets belong to everybody" and wondered as in a childish way, the blood-stained Blue asked with narrowing eyes: "Do I now belong to everybody?"
"No, kid, you belong to yourself" was what saved him.
***
Nowadays, Blue is adult in all respects, well-read and thoughtful. Then? While physically mature, Jerico was startled by how ignorant of most areas of schooling and human interaction the runaway was; the areas Blue was proficient in made it obvious that the urchin had been someone's plaything,
They spent years together, Jerico and his gang teaching what they could and would, and setting up the prodigy to work his telekinesis for clients. As an added benefit, if a deal ever turned sour, Blue was there to gleefully tear the offenders limb from limb.
Jerico was primarily out for money; Blue's motivations evolved from gratitude, to discovering pride and a sadistic streak, towards vengeance on asociates of the former owner and corporate slavers, to picking up the cause of neo-ethnics and a general anti-corporate libertarian agenda.
Over the years, Blue learned much of subtlety, yet not near as much of sanity. Adamantly refusing treatment with hormones, antipsychotics or tech that would 'mess up my brain', Blue instead rides out each wave, learning to live with the crazy. Perhaps, one day, when the debts are paid and the world a better place to live, with less corporate scum, less slavers, less haters and less people who don't pick up after their dog, the rebel will finally settle somewhere peaceful and fish, or rake sand hence and forth. Until then, you better not phone at the cinema or cut in line.
***
5'11" is not something that makes you stand out - being blue, with curving horns, a few decorative head-tendrils in addition to charcoal hair, and a tail and hooves to boot makes up for it.
Tel'issare watches the world with red eyes set in an ageless heart-shaped face with delicate features and cherry lips, very much according to the buyer's wishes.
The Draenei's limbs are long - the arms slender slender, the legs and behind muscular, the body slightly femininely rounded.
For dress, Tel'issare prefers loose and worn baggy garb (when trying to be inconspicuous), or, ironically, gaudy dresses patterned after comuter games, comics, novels.
The Draenei is quite vain, and particular to jewelry - but places little value on the trinkets beside decoration.
When business is at hand, Tel'issare will don light body armor in camo patterns. -

A street level gang banger hacker and door breaker. I like and I think Brian will find a valuable place on the team. Doorbreaker's tools of the trade: Cardjacker (data slate with a plug in card, ala John Conner in T2) this is the main physical tool for hacking doors, work stations, etc. It's loaded with illegal programs and warez. For fun, if you want, the doorbreaker can have a Viral Intelligence (Siri but comical, rude, or whatever) Also a Cloaker that hides Brian's hardware from the data slate to his knives from background and passive scanning. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#51So we now have:
Ombutsu the street samurai
Brian the Gang Hacker
Blue the TK Neo-Ethnic
Still waiting on Muldoon the Tracker Bot
But I think we have enough to start -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#52Okay. I'll throw those things into the description. And by the by, Scrasamax, if we're going to have one of those cursed neo-ethnics ( ) in the party, as well as scumbag augmen (looks like the only other decent person I have to work with is axelerowe's seibertonian!), what I want to know is if their is any racist name for them. So that I can make comments about those _____, always screwing up the most basic of tasks, and so on. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#53Well, Blue's appearance readily lends itself to being called a goat, cow, or anything else with horns or hooves. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#54Well, naturally I'm going to comment on your foul animalistic additions. But I was thinking of some more generic comments. And I'll need something for Dozus's augmen, too. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#55Augmens and Neo-Ethnics are genetically modified organisms, GMOs so you can derive something from that Jimmos (GMOs) Genie, gene-junkie, mutant, bioslag, infectious human waste, etc.
On a religious level there is the typical calling them soulless monsters, devils, demons, etc (this could apply to just about anything not 100% pure unmodified human). augments could be desecrators, or defilers (body is a temple, made in the image of god etc)
Seibertronians and other cyborg mods, the first things that come to mind are 'Clankers' (shouted with an australian accent, blame the Clone Wars) Toasters, clippy, or any other insult derived from their mechanical nature. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#56I think 'defiler' is too serious :)
What about...
Whizz boy, tin man, frankie (from Frankenstein), scrapper, (walking) junkyard, wire head, lug nut, sparky...

Those work, and the sort of people shooting off serious stuff like defiler are the Westboro type religious weirdos -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#58Oh, I do like the sound of mutant. And it all ready has a negative connotation to it in our time, so Brian is definitely going to use that. The others are pretty good ideas, though, too. I can imagine it now: "Them damn mutants, with their heads so full of sparks that they can't see sense." Or maybe something like that. And to be clear, Biran is racist against augmens, not seibertronians, since seibertronians never started out as human. -

Re: Cosmic Era Game
#62Appearance: Muldoon is the size of a large dog, weighing 120 lbs. and commonly moving on all six legs like animal. From end to end he’s just over 4ft long and most of his body, save his face and legs, is covered in an artificial coat of feathers that are several shades of brown with flecks of white in them. His head, roughly the size of a human head, was designed to look animal like and user friendly. He has large round forward set yellow eyes that are placed in a face made of small brown ferro-ceramic tiles. Underneath the tiles is a servo mechanism that allows the tiles to shift slight when Muldoon is making eye contact or communicating in person. The face tapers into beak like muzzle that is mostly for show, but he can use it grasp items. The voice actuators are also located in his head so it sounds like he is speaking from his mouth.
Muldoon’s legs are long spindelly carbon fiber structures that have three joints and end in small but very articulate maninpulators. The primary design role for the appendages is for rapid ground movement and secure climbing. The front two appendages are capable of producing slightly more force than the rear four appendages, as they were deisgned to help with the cleaning, skinning and preparing of animals. Although he can not lift more than 40lbs. Muldoon’s wings located on his back are often folded behind him giving him somewhat of tail. The wings don’t allow Muldoon flight but allow him to slow his descent when jumping or failing and allow him to climb and jump with more force. Muldoons chasis is only mildly flexible as it was designed with three load bearing points: one beneath the head, one in the mid thorax, and one in the anteirior thorax. Muldoon was also designed to be move his appendages from one load bearing point to the other and use all six appendages at one point. Thus can stand his hind legs effectively.
Equipment: Muldoon is equipped with thermo grapic vision, telescopic vision, an internal odometer, an internal compass, GPS compatible software and hardware, active scanning and cartography software (doesn’t work) and a sophisticated (state of the art 10 years ago) particle tracker or nose if you what be mammal centric. He has a build in rifle that fires from a port just to the left of his head. It fires a low caliber high velocity round and has a four round clip. Muldoons forward appendages also have retractable carbon blades.
Values: Muldoon is a hunter first foremost. He is also a “a pack animal” if you will. His primary joy, his whole being, was be second to his pack’s alpha male. His pack was his former employer/owner. Muldoon doesn’t consider stuff such as the intrinsic value of life or art, he understands that ecology and life as a whole has to be kept in balance, and thus is not a blood sport hunter. He sees hunting as challenge and a social activity. Indeed the only social activities Muldoon has interest in participating in are those relate to the hunt. He has hunted during his career in numerous environments, although he is currently adapted for artic forest and tundra.
Issues: Muldoon has degenerative neurological illness that his effecting the way he processes visual information. It is not well understood, and only few cases have ever been described. Muldoon has been studying up on it (learning is one of his prerogatives, it is required for being successful hunting guide). Additionally Muldoon has some developing personality issues. He was recently rejected (let go) by his former pack. He is still reeling from this event and has not yet internalized it yet. He doesn’t really believe it is over between him and his former master. Muldoon was not an emotional being before this, and this new emotions regarding rejection and trust are difficult for him to process. Muldoon also lived a sheltered life. He knew his pack and their wealth and that was all. He was unaware of most of the world and is just now beginning to see himself as part of or exluded from the world’s larger community.
Goals: Muldoon still forsees himself being reunited with his former employer. He believes that he needs to make several modifications to his hardware and “get his brain fixed”. He is hoping to acquire enough money to purchase improvements.

An interesting character to say the least.
Muldoon is going to start the game already in Alaska, freelancing in Anchorage. His contact is going to be the guide/liaison that Johnson has arranged to accompany the team into the Industrial Arco. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#64I half way through his Johnson intro...just a moment
-
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#65Oh and I gave him a boat. I hope that is okay. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#66You guys are doing great, I am loving this.
I would like to address Brian Bolles character and his racism against augments. I think it is fitting to the setting material, but I want to make sure that everyone is okay with it, and that it is understood to be in character, and not any sort of personal attack etc. We are mature, but I want to make sure that all the bases are covered.
Second, Morte will be joining the group soon (he is going to drop in in-transit). I did have the group closed, but he PMed me such an awesome character concept that there was no way I could say no.
Carry on, and if anyone has any questions or needs anything, PM me! -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#67So - have we agreed on who's doing what? Everyone's just talking ambiguously.
Did I get it right?
Muldoon: scout
Blue: scout
Balls: shop, steal boat
Matt: shop, steal boat
If so, let's get to the action.
As to answer your question, I don't have an issue with the topic per se. I just have an issue with "suspension of disbelief".
Only a very stupid person will openly be a -See You AunTie- to armed people on whom his life may depend. Also, I like to base my in-game decisions on actual role-play, and not on 'gloss over it, it's a PC'.
So, I'm A-OK with the portrayal of racism, violence, sex, religious intolerance, politics, bad humor, genocide and other controversial topics within a game, but Mr. Balls may need slightly more thoughtful writing. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#68I'm thick-skinned enough - and not a human augment myself - to not mind Brian's jabs. I do echo Echo's (ha!) thought that they are a little heavy-handed. But such people exist, so if that's the he's played, I'm game. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#69Wait until ya fellahs meet Fade... -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#70Yeah, Brian is probably going to be worrying about how cold it is more than about trading insults with others, so he is going to be slightly more thoughtful (one of the things he's learned is not to insult the meatshields!).
And by the by, echo- did autocorrect make you write Balls instead of Bolles there, did you think that was my guys last name, or did you go for the purposeful insult?
And Morte- I'm liking Luke so far. But what I want to know is if he's human. Because Brian (not I) would like the "good types" to outnumber the augmens and neo-ethnics. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#71Of course the 'slip' is intentional :D The character's name was too inviting, even its pronunciation. Enjoy your new name, Brian. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#72Luke is a Gun Adept and a former member of Sigma Blue. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#73Just to make sure we're clear on our prejudices: João isn't a genetic augment, he just has artificial limbs and mechanical enhancements. Not sure how that affects Balls' Bolles ' friendly little nicknames in that regard. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#74You just had to do the Balls comment, didn't you? And I'm using mutant as a general term for genetic and mechanical augmens and neo-ethnics, and other descriptive terms on a case by case basis. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game

That might be a hint to dial Bolles' augmen racism down a notch.
The Bolles/Balls joke probably needs to stay in the IC thread also. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#76Bah! Keep the racism going and the volume constant. The Cosmic Era is a study in mixing hyperbole with a general disgust in human nature. Lets not lose our nerve now that we have actually taken her off the drawing board. -

Also posted to get things moving again. I would have responded sooner but I had some personal issues that kicked my butt/sapped the creative juices: by replacing them with crushing head congestion and mucus, 401k shenanigans, and a sick horse. -
Re: Cosmic Era Game
#80Questions:
We were in Anchorage..which is located more or less on the site of present day Anchorage?
We are now in juneau Alaska, which is located more less on the site of modern day Juneau?
The island we were scouting was the island with the Inuksuk arco, we found the wrecks, their were mechs running around, but we didn't see any mechs? Did we approach the perimeter fence?
If we didn't was there a reason we couldn't approach the arco on foot?
We are now back in the boats, heading towards the Juneau marina which has been shot up and has a bunch of people on it trying to warn us to get off the boats or at least warn Brian (ceasar and his team)?
