OOC: It is Known...
#1Placeholder
A Song of Ice and Fire...and Mayhem!
Needed: 3.5 to 5 PCs. GoT world knowledge/familiarity big bonus, but not crucial. You can design your own characters or I can hand-out pre-generated ones.
Raise your Banners! -
Re: Throne of Games
#2I'm in. Random pregen is fine :)
-
Re: Throne of Games
#3Knight of Westeros? Or something else, val? And I can take it from there. -
Re: Throne of Games
#4I am reading the first book right now. I haven't gotten far though.
I am highly interested, would I be allowed to take part? -
Re: Throne of Games
#5Sure! -
Re: Throne of Games
#6Havent read the books but I've enjoyed the series on HBO. I'll ad my banner, pregen is fine -
Re: Throne of Games
#7Have read Song of Ice and Fire.
Would like to join.
Have sword. Will travel.
Pregen is fine. -
Re: Throne of Games
#8Awesome! Maybe 1 more PC and we're off! I will be pre-generating characters (and figuring out how to entwine them) today/tonight. -
Re: Throne of Games
#9I'm tempted, although going back home to Maine might curb my activity over the next few weeks. -
Re: Throne of Games
#10I can be the .5 random character. As long as I can randomly be a dark elf assassin that rides a dragon, has a pet direwolf and commands the army of the north.
Game on your dwarf bastards, I always pay my debts so don't wake the dragon because winter is coming Hodor. -
Re: Throne of Games
#11Lol, i think you've covered it all there.
Hodor. -
Re: Throne of Games
#12Sweet, I am Hodor. Can I do a couple posts in advance.
"Hodor."
"Hodor!"
"Hodor. Hodor."
"Hodor?"
That should be good for about three weeks. Send me a PM when I am needed again!! -
Re: Throne of Games
#13I've only read the first book, so my knowledge of the world is perhaps limited. Still, I'd be happy to play a pregen if you're still looking for players. -
Re: Throne of Games
#14I've read the first four books and was surprised with how close the first season stuck to the first book. I have yet to watch the second season. Yes I'm that lazy. I have never done a pbp type of game but it would be interesting. If you need someone who is randomly there and has maniacle behavior when he is then count me in. Otherwise. All hail a society where mishapen dwarves get the hot chicks and can slap kings. Booya. -
Re: Throne of Games
#15Dossta, you're in! Mourn, you're in! (you lazy maniac :P)
ok, no more PCs. I'll post up various characters to choose from this weekend.
Woot

Re: Throne of Games
#16As long as I get to walk around swatting women on the butt, kill a random person every post and die every night only to show back up the next day... YES! -
Re: Throne of Games
#17random thoughts:
--Not everyone can be a sword-wielding, armored, bad-ass. Need some other types as well. Maesters (clerics), thieves (thieves), weird exotic types from across the narrow sea, places like Qarth (mage), young kid (there are a lot of young kids in this world), etc
--Need to ponder a bit on why six-seven people of very (distinctly) different backgrounds are all hanging around together...all part of the Nightswatch? Rebels and bastards united for common cause? Part of a mercenary company? Coincidental serendipity? Met at an inn? :P Other? Hmmmm
--Need to ponder time-frame of events. Who is king currently and all that.
valadaar (giving me creative license to assign him any character i come up with. Has not read books, or seen show (blasphemy!), but claims to be familiar with "intrigue" :p)
Kassy (any preferences, generally speaking, as far as what *type* of character?)
Scras (note to self: Scras wants to be a Lannister)
Echo (Dornishman? Greyjoy? Targaryen?)
Ted (Ted's currently tempted, but not yet official)
Dossta (any preferences, generally speaking, as far as what *type* of character?)
Mourngrymn (good man to have. Read 4 books. never done pbp though.)
Need a map. Can't play GoT w/o a map, dammit.
-
Re: Throne of Games
#18A general rule of thumb, a Lannister will never be of the Night's Watch... just saying.
Greyjoy's are kind of badass if you get past the whole part where their woman are more of a man than you are.
Targaryen are sadistically cool...
The Starks are my all time favorite... the most pessimistic people of them all. yes Winter is coming... and when it does you will all die and we will live on.
House Baratheon seem to me like the frat house of football players who love to party and fight...
House Tully... no real opinion. They are the Tea Party of Westeros to me.
Lannisters are the Kennedys' of Westeros.
Dothraki are some mixture of plains indian and mongol horde. Interesting but unless your all dothraki it doesn't work.
Night's Watch, generally they are probably the coolest of all the different groups being outside of politics but also when you look right down to it they are the most important political group there is no one gives them credit for it however.
I missed some. -

#20Just curious before I make up my mind to join or not, is this game replacing the AUR one? -

As long as I can play a pretty thief proficient with throwing knives, then I'm happy :)
I'm not really a fan of run of the mill overpowered char, always wielding a sword.
EDIT: I'm at the same level as val on GoT knowlge, having just started Reading the first book, and not going to watch the series until after reading all of the books. (I prefer to imagine things, rather than having actors replace my imaginative abilities) -
Re: Throne of Games
#22We could be part of some charming criminal organization, either one mentioned in the books (experiencing new tales), or a new one made up by Muro. -
Re: Throne of Games
#23I'm beginning to come up with some plot ideas, fear not!
Ok, we're getting somewhere
Scras: Korley "Lannister" Hill
Echo: Velaquo Silkblood
Kassy: thief (will pm you pc idea)
Mourn: an Areo Hotah type or one of the grimmer northern clans
val: almost there
Dossta: have 2 ideas, will pm you both
...almost there

Re: Throne of Games
#24Honestly Silver, watching the show I found that the actors that were cast were the PERFECT choice. All of them looked as I had imagined, except Queen Cersi, and they all acted as I figured they should. This wasn't a Stephen King adaptation but it was as if the book was a screenplay for the series. I think it was perfectly done. -

Aye, I felt much the same, the show hooked me form the get go, has replaced Fire Fly as my all time favorite tv show ever.
I especially like the unrated approach they took to the series, (much like HBO did with Spartacus Blood and Sand and Masters of the Arena) which gave it the much needed connection tot he books it would have otherwise sorely lacked.
I remember seeing the hack job they did of Wizards Fist Rule and subsequent novels for television, (Legend of the Seeker) and couldn't help but be endlessly amused at the G rated Mordsith and how Darken Raoul was present himself as a pretty boy push over that reminded me more of that Reading Rainbow guy from PBS then of any character from the novels.
Anyhoo, I hope to be joining this game as well, and have PM'd Muro with a char concept and idea, hopefully there's still room for me. -
Re: Throne of Games
#26If there is still a slot open I would like to join in. -

For shame for shame.... Fire Fly should always be rated number one... and I will gladly stand aside for anyone who has more experience at pbp than I do. I can be a mediator of knowledge if need be. -
Re: Throne of Games
#28First Group
Maester Lomas of House Tarth, who has recently left the Sapphire Island when venerable Lord Evenstar finally passed, his only heir, the missing androgynous warrior, Brienne. Lomas is that rarity, a wandering Maester, without a House.
Korley "Lannister" Hill, a bastard of Casterly Rock, though not a despised or ignored one. Son of Kevan Lannister, half-cousin to the Kingslayer, half-nephew to Tywin Lannister. Rides a cremello courser, named "Bastard". (coat of arms: the Lannister Lion, yes he dares.)
Velaquo Silkblood, a somewhat flamboyant mercenary captain from Myr, across the Narrow Sea. Currently sans his once feared, three thousand-strong, Bloody Silks Company
Ser Rygobert, "Rygby" Ryswell, a minor knight of the Rills, one of the many quarrelsome Ryswell cousins, who all look alike. Rigby's sword skills however, raise him high above his kin. (coat of arms: Bronze, a horse head, sable eyed and maned gules within a bordure angrailed sable)
Drin Tostro, raised and branded by the Bearded Priests of Norvos, trained in the long-axe, and sent to serve, obey, and protect...
Rheyna, called "Fingerdance", a young girl from Barrowtown, a thief and an uncanny knife-thrower, she is now travelling with Ser Rygby Ryswell. It was either that, or lose a hand. Long story. -
Re: Throne of Games
#29Is that a list of already claimed chars, Mourn? If not, than I'd like to play Drin. Otherwise, I await your PM I suppose. The Starks and the Night Watch are the two groups most familiar to me, but I'm interested in hearing your ideas. -
Re: Throne of Games
#30Sounding good so far! -

I'm Muro, Mourn is the one with the nose-ring :)
Hmm, i was pegging you for Ser Ryg Ryswell, but if Drin Tostro floats your boat, that works for me! Maybe Mourn can play the quarrelsome Ryswell, if he's ok with it.
(suggested reading for Drin Tostro on a "Wiki of Ice and Fire" : Bearded Priests of Norvos http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Bearded_Priests_of_Norvos and Areo Hotah http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Areo_Hotah)
Will be sending out paragraphs of character info tonite via PMs to all. -
Re: Throne of Games
#32Oh damn, I'm sorry Muro. I've confused you both often enough in my head, that I'm not surprised it slipped out once. Color me embarrassed. -
Re: Throne of Games
#33That is actually rather funny D... and no I do not have a nose ring... -

Thats just what I'd expect an orc with a nose ring to say -
Re: Throne of Games
#35Having trouble getting into the first book. It seems to drag. Do I continue? I must say my interest level has dropped significantly.
I still want to take part in the roleplay. I just hope my lack of world knowledge won't impede too much. -
Re: Throne of Games
#36OMG yes continue. These are far better than the WoT series and those drug really bad. -
Re: Throne of Games
#37The WoT series? Never heard of it.
I'll try to continue reading, maybe I just wasn't in the mood earlier. Which is strange, I usually like sitting in the garden when it's warm and sunny, reading. -
Re: Throne of Games
#38PC Roster v 2.0 (one at a time)
Maester Belomas (valadaar)
Erstwhile Maester of Tarth, the Sapphire Isle, until recently in service to venerable Lord Selwyn "The Evenstar" of Tarth, who has just passed away peacefully from old age. With no heirs, except his daughter Brienne, who is currently missing somewhere in Westeros, the High Seat of Tarth is currently embroiled in succession battles and politics. Maester Belomas had been unceremoniously banished and sent away, by an upstart Baron of the island, who has decided to claim Tarth for his own, and who has his own Maester in tow.
Now, without a home, a House, or a liege to serve, Maester Belomas has sailed back across the channel to the mainland of Westeros. His ambitions and plans are known only to himself, though he has considered 1. Finding Brienne Tarth (to somehow help rightfully restore her to Tarth's High Seat) and 2. Visiting the Citadel in Oldtown once again, where many years ago, Belomas had forged his Maester's chain, and 3. Finding a new place to call home, perhaps a court in need of a Maester.
Of average height and weight, Belomas is relatively young for a Maester, having recently turned fifty. His balding brow and wispy brown beard, make him look older than he is. He is physically fit for a Maester, and dresses simply in a Maester's robe, wears a linked Maester's Chain on his neck, and leans on a stout oaken staff.

Re: Throne of Games
#39Odrin Tostro of Norvos (Dossta)
An orphan of Norvos' streets, Odrin was taken in and raised from a very young age by the Bearded Priests, a somewhat mysterious order of militant monks, who train men in the use of the long-axe. By sixteen, these children take vows that “wed” them to their axes, their "wives" of ash-and-iron, and are branded with an axe-mark across their chest.
Those who pass the training, are then sent by the Bearded Priests to various kingdoms of Westeros, the Free Cities, and beyond, to serve as guardians and protectors, to anyone who has met the Bearded Priests' "price". They are sent with only three words in mind, "Serve, Obey, Protect".
Odrin was sent to Westeros, but his "mission" is known only to him.
Odrin is a rather large man, standing well over six feet, and weighing close to two hundred and fifty pounds, with wide shoulders, and a barrel chest. Barely five-and-twenty, he is clean-shaven, with a head of brown curls.
Odrin wears boiled leather beneath his burnished ring-mail, and carries no shield, nor any weapon besides his dirk, and fearsome long-axe. -
