Brainless Brainstorming

Re: Brainless Brainstorming
#41I had the date at first but didn't like it. Still debating on exact implementation.
Was actually debating about the red as well. Was thinking of just having the green. Not like it is super important to know, it is just useful information for those that have been here. It may change your critique a little if you expect them to update it based on your comments but, really, any sub regardless of the author's activity, stands on its own and is just as useful today as 6 years ago...except for my first submissions that is. ;)
Bouncing between its usefulness/importance to us vs. flagging the author as a person who posted and never came back...
In progress I guess you could say. See how it grows on us and how we actually use it. -
Re: Brainless Brainstorming
#42I like the various color codes, it lets me know how recently they visited and the likely hood of them taking any of my feedback into consideration (or even reading it in the first place.)

Re: Brainless Brainstorming
#43Can a Wiki section be added to the tabs on the main page for easy access in the future (not sure there's any current Wiki besides the test one but at least there's interest in creating additional ones)? No hurry on this one though, should be a relatively quick and minor change, I presume. btw, I really like the recent change made to the Comments tab. -
Re: Brainless Brainstorming
#44Something that shows how many people are in the chat. I think there was something like this before the chat went away, but I might just be imagining things again. -
Re: Brainless Brainstorming
#45It does say....

Re: Brainless Brainstorming
#46...
No, it doesn't at least for me, all I have is "Full Window Chat" no numbers, but that might just be because the world has it out for me. Ah well... -
Re: Brainless Brainstorming
#47Is there a way that we can get an icon/notification on subs when they are the first sub of a new author? It would be nice to see "This is this author's first sub!" Then I wouldn't look like a jerk for forgetting to welcome them, and it would also encourage a nicer edge to the usually pointed comments. -
Re: Brainless Brainstorming
#48I put that on my short list Omega!!
Also found this: http://www.dangrossman.info/2012/08/20/a-date-range-picker-for-twitter-bootstrap/
That has ideas written all over it too! -
Re: Brainless Brainstorming
#49Here is another for the suggestion box.
One of the many jobs that I have held was the Web Site Manager for the American Rabbit Breeder's Association (http://www.arba.net). Each rabbit competition/show offers awards for "Best of Breed". For example, a separate award would be given to
the best Satin Angora,

the best Harlequin,

and the best English Lop.

Here is where this could apply to the Citadel. When I am browsing Magical Melee Weapons, I just get a list of the most recent submissions. Sure I can sort this by rating or show the golden/HoH subs, but I want to know what the best Sub is so I can look over it and maybe learn a thing or two. Basically, I want to see the Best of Breed for Magical Melee Weapons.
Right now, if you browse the different categories, just under the main navigation you'll see the Hall Of Honor, Random Gold, Random, and then a blank space just above the sorting. There may be a better spot for it, but it would be really cool to see a "Best of Breed" linking me to the BoB for the sorting I'm viewing.
Lastly, not anyone should be allow to vote BoB. In fact, it should probably be the privilege gained at either lvl 8,9,or 12. And here is how it works: you just filter the subs by the category and return the sub with the highest average rating counting only the votes of members with at least lvl 8 (or 9 or 12). So once you reach lvl 8, your votes (past and future) count towards calculating the Best of Breed. And maybe throw in a little extra logic to value subs with high vote counts over single vote subs :) -
Re: Brainless Brainstorming
#50I like this. It has a certain simplicity to it and the execution sounds pretty solid. Of course, it would be kinda weird to see a "Best of Breed" sub that wasn't also Golden, but I suppose that makes sense if it's the only sub in a category. After all, the Upset Barbarian Horde is Greatly Upset. -
Re: Brainless Brainstorming
#51Best of Breed would probably just be a query that would update based on the submissions.
Say it requires a minimum of 5 votes with an average above 4.2 and a hoh or something? It would have to be something I write a script for to find I think.
