I've got an idea or two myself which I plan on putting up - I just have to figure out how to structure my thoughts into a sub :)

Come on, don't be so pessimisstic, AG :D

While we are at it, could we announce the winners of the last quest with all fanfares, for instance by changing the Quest post?

Polishing detail: quests that have passed on don't really need things like "-54 day 9 hours and 47 minutes left".
  4. Re: Quest Planning

    #44
Oh yeah, the quest winner announcement post. They hit the main page for the weeks it took to get another quest but I did forget the forum post. oops.

Need a way to show the quest winners when you view the quest listings too!

Can't find where the last quest winners were posted. Here is the code if somebody remembers where to post it so we can be consistant. I ran out of time getting to this part.

((Edit this post and steal the code))

    -------------------------------

Strolen's Citadel second quest, Into the Dungeon was an outstanding success. An impressive 21 quest items were submitted and each author took away an extra 10xp from each of those submissions.

Without further ado, I give you your Strolenite voted top two Winners:

The Strolenite Medal of Honour and 100XP goes to:

CaptainPenguin for The Mountain of Boats

The Strolenite Badge of Recognition and 50XP goes to:

    Scrasamax for The Noil Ruins

Congratulations to our winners!!! You shall be the proud recipients of a one of kind (OK, there are two of them) custom designed T-shirt donated by Murometz.

    Thanks Muro!!!

Okay, I need to work out the rules for the finalists.  Right now, I'm thinking the top 5-8 submissions, with the criteria for being top being Golden Sub, Total vote score, number of votes, Hall of Honor, in that order.  What I mean is that if anything gets a Golden, they're automatically in.  Then the rest are determined by vote score, with more weight being given to high votes that have many votes, and Hall of Honor for tie breaker.  Does this seem like it will work?

    works for me!

Not put in unique...is that the quest criteria? Which I believe it is, but he wants it updated to reflect it is in the quest. If we do this one then we have to do others as well.

    What say ye?

I say it is not a quest (if it is constructed...I didn't read it yet).

    Quest = Unique

I would think but didn't want to act till I got approval.

Ah... This is a bit complicated.  I want to say that it doesn't count because there are more than one golem.  However, it reads like only one is active at a time.  I'll give it a pass on the constructed, since it is essentially a vampiric golem.  Plus, if I disqualified it on the grounds of being constructed, I'd feel it necessery to disqualify the Cap's Cutsman on the same grounds, and I don't want to do that.  I'll ask about the more than one golem active at a time thing.

Does anyone else have any input?
  10. Re: Quest Planning

Yes. The whole concept of unique lifeforms is a long shot. What makes the difference between an exceptional NPC and a unique lifeform? Unique lifeforms are unique in some way, yet most probably they are a strain of some existing non-unique lifeform. This means that they WILL resemble that other lifeform in some way.

As for "lifeform" you could say that a storm of wraiths or golems are anything but lifeforms. They are constructed items or spirtual entities, but still most users would logically put them in the lifeform category. Perhaps it is the word "lifeform" itself that needs a workover?

If we were to shave off the things that are in the borderzone between unique and not, and between lifeform and not, we would have to kill a lot of quest entries.
  11. Re: Quest Planning

    #51
Unique = There is only one of this lifeform.

    Straight off the main site.

If it is constructed yet unique, it would fit both categories.

I think the original intent was that if any of the other categories in the same cat structure were one of a kind, then perhaps they would fit into this category.

Maybe unique is redundant since everything should be able to be classified into any of the other categories in that structure.
  12. Re: Quest Planning

    #52
If we let that one in, we need to review all the other lifeforms that were submitted in that time period for uniqueness.

Let me know as I am out of town till Monday night.
  13. Re: Quest Planning

    #53
We have a couple of uniques that are actually NPCs (IMO) because they are actively intelligent and are/were people. (They should be changed.)

I would think we should keep it towards actual Unique Critters.  That is the criteria.  It is easy to do something close, but it is actually hard to do a true unique critter. Actually that being one of the reasons we are questing in this area, as there are so few of them.

So if they are not honestly codable as Uniques, then as much as we might love them, they are not questable.

  14. Re: Quest Planning

    #54
I'll go through the entries and get the finalists tomorrow; I'm too tired to do it tonight.  I agree with Moon: if it fits better as an NPC, it doesn't qualify.  I might have some more entries that need a second opinion, I'll know tomorrow.
  15. Re: Quest Planning

    #55
Well, thus far, there are a couple of entries that should be NPCs and not lifeforms... which is sad, because they're really, really good.  I might see if I can't do sort of an honorable mention or something for those.
  16. Re: Quest Planning

    ????

Okay, my Hak-Hakunin was removed and I concur. That is all fine and correct, but...

    EchoMirage's "Ylithain, the Drowned Queen"?

Why was that sub removed? It features the offspring between a dark mage and a water elemental and is a tentacle monster with semi-solid liquid body that speaks by tracing glowing runes in the air...

Is that an NPC and not a unique beast?
  17. Re: Quest Planning

    #57
I thought it was an NPC.  I've always thought the definition of NPC included a fairly distinct personality.  She has a lot of personality.
  18. Re: Quest Planning

    #58
Ah, then I understand. So the defining trait is not whether it is humanoid or not, but whether it has a personality.

So then anything that can be roleplayed -> NPC and everything else -> Lifeform.

Understood. Just me sticking with old AD&D genres where humanoids were NPCs and the rest were in the monstrous compendium ;)
  19. Re: Quest Planning

    #59
I still think Hak-Hakunin was great, AG!
  20. Re: Quest Planning

    #60
The quests seems to be spawning a lot of great subs, CP.
    I am impressed!
  21. Re: Quest Planning

    #61
Um, one of the rules for the voting is that you can't vote on your own sub.  What about dual-credit submissions?  Does the same apply?  Like, if you're listed as a co-contributor, can you vote for that sub?
  22. Re: Quest Planning

    #62
I would say that if you are in the credits, you are ineligible. After all, you will be getting the big XP bonus with the main author so it is still a conflict of interest.
  23. Re: Quest Planning

    #63
So... what is with the last quest? When do we get to vote on it?
  24. Re: Quest Planning

    #64
yeah, lets rock. I have great new quest ideas for the next one!

Lets crown some winners for this one!
  25. Re: Quest Planning

    #65
Yeah, I should probably post that...  :what:  Sorry, real life has been kind of... not good.
  26. Re: Quest Planning

    #66
Um...  does someone else want to take over the Quests?  I don't mind doing it, but I'm not going to be all that reliable about getting things done in a timely manner; there's just too much other stuff going on right now that I have to deal with for me to give the Citadel much attention.  So if someone wants to take over to keep things running smoothly, I don't mind, and I don't mind if you want me to keep doing it, as long as you don't have a problem with it being a bit unreliable.
  27. Re: Quest Planning

    #67
I managed it before you took the role. I can step in while you are busy and you take the reigns once you come back.
  28. Re: Quest Planning

    #68
I guess I'll volunteer as well. Quests are fun. Though I have no issue with AG taking over.
  29. Re: Quest Planning

    #69
Heh, I mostly wanted to help Ria out. If you want the position, I yield it to you. Niema problema! You spend more time around here than I do, and besides it is a nice way to do something admin-y besides asking people to behave and deleting spam! ;)

You deserve to get some fun responsibilities around here anyways. Done much for the place you have!
  30. Re: Quest Planning

you are a gentlemen and a scholar  :).

I've been jonesing to do something Admin-y, other than Spam Deleting Detail, for a while  :P

So Muro it is, then.  I'll be happy to offer any aid/advice you need.
  32. Re: Quest Planning

Not sure how you are going to do the war theme, but if you assign it to a category you will have to get the ID from the main site. I am having difficulty with the script on that page.

Let me know as soon as anything screwey goes wrong with it.
  33. Re: Quest Planning

    #73
Wanderer would like to know if there's a way to make his Dark Waters game and OOC thread veiwable to registered users (actually, probably just accepted players) only.
  34. Re: Quest Planning

    #74
    Wants it hidden eh?

I will do registered only, but will have to put it in its own forum...no big deal.

Once that is done, if he wants only certain users to have access to it then I just need a list and I can make that happen too.

And how did that question makes it way into this thread. :?: hehe
  35. Re: Quest Planning

    #75
Ack, I didn't mean to post this in this thread.

Strolen, I have no idea how to correctly handle that part. Help.
  37. Re: Quest Planning

    #77
Admins and mods may just have to go through and tick something to put it on a quest
  38. Re: Quest Planning

    #78
    You are certainly screwed.

On the main page, go to admin, then try and add a quest. The directions are there, sort of.

If we are NOT limiting the quest to a specific category then you are going to have to wait till tomorrow at the earliest when I get a chance to code in the extra quest stuff when you enter a submission. If it is just a category, then you can use the form I made in the admin page without an issue.

Don't post the quest if you are doing any category "war." It is not ready! You can blame me in the thread but it would be better to wait so we have something that works.
  39. Re: Quest Planning

    #79
its any category War, so, I'll wait, no problem  :P

I understand the quest functions, somewhat, so I'll be happy to help if you need it.
