Ogre Raid.
#41Sentinel growled as he sat up, damn that human! Did he not know that war was in the air, that they could not stay and rest forever? Damn the humans! Believing so much in their superiority to elves, did they not know of the sacrifice the elves were willing to pay. But Sentinel kept his anger in check as he walked out of the cabin and into the keep where he was told that Graeme was in the turret. He went that way and came to the door where he knocked lightly. This irritated Sentinel greatly. He was having to pull many of his strings to help these humans, and he couldn't think why he was doing this. Maybe for honor, who knew? -
Ogre Raid.
#42It took many long hours to travel to the great fortress of the humans but at last Akuma had made it. soldiers were every where and as he tried to enter a guard stopped him.
"Who are you? Where are you going?" the gruff guard asked
"I am Akuma and I am here to do what I can." Akuma said as he showed the man the ogre hand.
"you may pass"
Akuma snaked his way throught the masses skimming supplies from any one not watching their things close enough. He stopped by the armorer and had his repared at twice the cost it should have been due to his appearance. He then sought out the real power holders in this conflict. Making it only to the outer doors of the hall where the battle plans were being discussed he was forced to stop and await permission to enter.
While he waited for the guard to return many thoughts were running through his mind....Did anyone hear my message from the field?....Will they think me a spy?...Will they accept my help?..... -
Ogre Raid.
#43Snake Tail tossed and turned on the great lion pelt that served as his bed,too tense with nervouness and anxiety to sleep.Of only Heron Faether hadn't fallne to the blade of that human commnader. If only Crazy Hawk had seen the bolt that the cowardly human had fired at him.Toomnly only's.
Just as he despaired of ever pulling himself together,he felt something stir in his mind.Yes,in his mind, the ancestors save him.Cold sweat oozed out of his pores,as he tried to mantain his composure. Was this some vile trick the human soceror was working on him? Fear me not,an etheral voice suddenly echoed in his mind.As I guided Heron Feather to victory,so shall I guide you. -
Ogre Raid.
#44Sentinel knocked once more, this human must be hard on hearing. He leaned against the wall next to the doorway waiting. Why not? The human must think we got all the time in the world. And so Sentinel closed his eyes calming his breathing as he waited patiently. -
Ogre Raid.
#45Unable to ignore the knocking at the trapdoor to the roof of the tower, Graeme opened the door, and admitted his visitor. It was the elven ranger Sentinel. Graeme gave him the proper amount of room to not seem offensive, but it was the elf who had intruded upon him while he communicating with his brother. The sending was less stressful than invoking sight beyond sight, but only slightly so.
He looked at the elf, awaiting his responce.
(OOC - Sentinel, I work 12 hour shifts in a factory. I am sorry If I dont post fast enough for you.) -
Ogre Raid.
#46((Its okay, if you get the chance post, but I understand))
He bowed his head to Graeme fomally ignoring the irritation he hinted in the eyes of the human he tilted his head.
"You know what me must do."
He said carefully, not wanting an outburst of anger.
"We must gather all our strength and use a new knid of warfare against these ogres. We learned today that open battle with them would bring death, but what if we used a sneaky new type, hit-and-run tactics where he strike hard on their flanks and be gone before they know what happened?" -
Ogre Raid.
#47"Is it normal for all elves to assume humans are all stupid?" Graeme asked. "Of course I know hit and run tactics. Training to fight them one has to learn them. The empire seldom has reason to resort to such methods, but they still have their value."
He looked out over the battlements. The secret of the tectic was speed, and footmen didnt have the advantage of speed over the ogres, this would have to be a mounted operation. The Silver Boars would remain here, as garrison and reinforcement if needed, but the time for crossbows and pikes was done. He would need his horse, and the remnants of the Grey Company.
"We have to find a way to neutralize their shields. They are quite adept at blocking arrows with them. You might have to get your pretty hands dirty." -
Ogre Raid.
#48''The Hidden One?''asked Snake Tail.''Are you the same spirit that gave Heron Feather the strength to bring us this glorious victory?''. The one and the same answered the Hidden One. Like Heron Feather, death will not take you until you fulfill your destiny the way Heron Feather did his.Now listen carefully to what I have to say,for everyhting depends on it.
Awed,Snake Tail fell to his knees.''I will obey,Great Father.I will!Tell me what to do.'' March not to the costal cities for a trap awaits you there, the Hidden One replied.Instead, strike them where they least expect it.Strike the humans where it hurts them the most.Hit their precious Imperial City. -
Ogre Raid.
#49Sentinel nodded and smiled ruefully.
"That is my job."
He looked out onto the battlements as he corssed his arms over his chest. This war would be long and hard, and he sensed many more lives would have to be sacrifised before victory came to them.
"Indeed. He would use the javalin."
He said, a sharp lace could pierce throuh their shields maybe. -
Ogre Raid.
#50"A javelin? It doesnt have the penetrating power. These ogres arent carrying around human sized shields in case you didnt notice. Their shields are easily three to four inches thick. It would take a ram, or a ballista to punch through those shields." Graeme said.
"There is an idea of using a pilum, a soft headed spear that would set into the wood, and throw the balance of the shield off. The ogre would have to loose the protection of his shield before he could remove the pilums."
OOC: Actual weapon and tactic used by the Romans -
Ogre Raid.
#51)May I join this rp with my mercenary Dekkrokh?) -
Ogre Raid.
#52(sure Beowulf)
He nodded and thought on this move, he had heard of it breifly but it had faded from his mind due to his secrecy in combat, and himself not used to open war like these other men. He nodded and faced Graeme.
"Fine, we shall use it. Do you have the supplies to make these piliums, or have you already have them?"
OOC:It sounded like them -
Ogre Raid.
#53A shadowed man walked in and sat down listening to the conversation.
"I also agree."
He said as he showed his face and looked around at the men speaking.
"My name is Dekkrokh,I am a mercenary that could use a job."
He said as he smiled and nodded at Sentinel. -
Ogre Raid.
#54Sentinel turned around and looked at the mercenary and then over to Graeme.
"What do you think, Graeme. He is expendible." -
Ogre Raid.
#55On the morning of the next day,Snake Tail adressed the Ogre Horde.''My warriors'',he called out in a loud, booming voice that seeemd to carry everywhere.''After much thinking on it last night,I have realized that the humans might have sprung a trap for us in the costal cities. We shall not try to take them.''
Loud murmurs of disbelief among the ranks of warriors greeted this unexpected and shocking anouncement. The Clan Chiefs who had looked forward to looting the wealthy costal settlements as eagerly as their men, were livid. What did young Snake Tail think he was doing? .
Ignoring this,Snake Tail continued.''Instead,we shall march on the capital city of the humans and seize it .Now that most of their forces have been destroyed, the seat of their power lies vulnerble. And we shall take it!''Upon hearing this, loud war cries went up everywhere and weapons were brandished. The human scourge would be crushed for good now! -
Ogre Raid.
#56"Personally I have no use for unproven mercenaries, whatever you said your name is." Graeme said dismissively. "I have my own hired soldiers, and it wont be long before the Imperial Legions of Calan are mobilized to reach this ignorant backwater."
"The smithies of this keep can start making the pilums. I am going to go observe the ogres, since none of you have seen fit to send out pickets or outriders to keep an eye on them. Dont expect to know what they are doing because they are ogres, they've surprised us more than once thus far." -
Ogre Raid.
#57He smiled at Graeme's comment as he stood up and walked over to him.
"If you need someone who can out ride the ogres I will go without pay so you see how much finesse I have."
He said as he pulled his hood over his face and stood there waiting for his reply to what he has just complied.
He then smiled again and said as he nodded at Graeme.
"Or you could take the chance of being struck down by their arrows."
He looked at him his face straight. -
Ogre Raid.
#58He looked over at the mercenary and nodded.
"Fine, scout them and gather information on which way they are moving their forces."
He looked at Graeme and sighed shaking his head exasperated.
"We must gather the forces when the piliums are finished and move forward to strike." -
Ogre Raid.
#59"Have a good time." Graeme said. He let himself through the trapdoor of the turret, and back into the castle. Baird had informed him that there were indeed Imperial legions mobilizing, as well as a sizeable contingent of Dejy levies. The Ogres were going to be in for a surprise when they were caught by the might of the empire.
Stupid, arrogant non-humans, Graeme thought, not seeing too much difference between elves and ogres for the moment. He made his way to the smithies on the ground floor of the keep.
"I need you to make spear heads of soft iron, or lead if you have it." he told the head smith.
"Tha'aint much lead her'bouts" the man said, "An'na soft 'ern is jes that, soft."
"That is the point, I want to make pilum spears, to disable shields." Graeme said. The smith pondered the matter for a moment, rubbing his grizzled chin.
"Ah thank'Ah can do it." He said.
"Good, as quickly as you can." Graeme said as he headed to the courtyard where most of the men were. It time to make an appearance. He strode across the square, nodding to the hardened men who knew unlike some commanders who rode in the rear of the army, he rode in the vanguard.
"Good to see the men in better spirits." Graeme said to the banner and undercaptains. "It is time to start a new set of drills, are any of you familiar with using the pilum?" It was some time before faux pilums were fashioned and the men began to practice the attacks and feints that would allow them to dissable the impressive defences of the ogres. The Crossbowmen lined up and performed their own drills, firing, reloading and such. -
Ogre Raid.
#60He of the room as silent as he had entered an walked over to the stables.
"I need your fastest horse."
He said as he straddled the black horse and rode off into the ogre land satying as close as he could.
He looked at the ogres lined up and heard two hire ranking officers talking about heading towards the capital instead of the coastal cities.
"Smart but ugly."
He whispered to himself ashe snuck in deeper to find out what he could. -
Ogre Raid.
#61Akuma stood in a corner of the court yard watching and waiting when Sentinel walked in. As Sentinel started to talk to a few of the men Akuma walked up to him.
"I don't want to interuppt anything, but I would like to offer my services to you." He stated."I am going out now to nibble away at their flanks, take this", handing Sentinel a small black stone with runes etched into it," if you need me for any thing think of my name and say what you need to tell me, the stone will take the message to me now matter where I am.
He bowed slightly to Sentinel and left the courtyard. Akuma then snaked his way back out of the great fortress and began his hunt.
~This time I will find that ogre tribe leader that slaughtered my village and kill him.~ Akuma thought to him self as he began to travel away from the great human garrison. -
Ogre Raid.
#62Dekkrokh heard some of the ogres coming his way and jumped onto a tent and waited for them to pass by as he saw another person riding towards the encampment. -
Ogre Raid.
#63Under Snake Tail's orders, the ogres begun to dismantle their tents and collect their belongings, preparing themselves for the long march to the Imperial City.As he continued to bellow out orders,a sentry came rushing to his side and begun whispering into his ear. ''My Chief,I and Running Water have spotted a human slowly making his way towards our encampment. We think he may may be a scout come to report on our movements.''
''Scout,eh?Don't kill him.If we get the rat alive,I can find out more about what the humans are planning.Knowing them, they probally have some sly little trick up their sleeves.'' The sentry nodded. He knew precisely what to do.Creeping back to where he had spotted the humans riding towards the fringe of the camp,he removed the blowgun at his waist and levelled it at the mounted human scout, signalling to Running Water to do the same. Then they fired.
Akuma and Dekkrokh was hit by 2 little darts that had their tips smeared with a certain potion that would knock anyone out within seconds, upon entering their blood stream. It was hardly fatal though and the person would simply remain unconcious for a 5 hours.Watching with satisfaction,as Akuma tumbled out of his saddle,Running Water and the other sentry begun jogging over to the slumped forms of the human. When they reached them, they tied them up,using them a strong cord and brought them to Snake Tail who would wait till he woke up,so that he could question the human scout. -
Ogre Raid.
#64ooc:Dekkrokh is on top of a tent in your camp already. -
Ogre Raid.
#65OOOC:Sorry about that. It'll just be Akuma then. -
Ogre Raid.
#66OOC: Standing on top of a tent? You know that tents arent meant to be stood upon, being fabric? -
Ogre Raid.
#67OOC:Yea, no defying physics Beowulf
Sentinel stopped as he came down to the courtyard, he himself and his men would travel to the Imperial City to lead the Imperial Legions to where they were. He whistled loudly and all his men came around him, he spoke to his undercaptians as quickly as he could.
"Prepare the horses, we ride to Calan!"
The men all went to the stables running and the great gates were opened as they started galloping out, with Sentinel in the lead with his officers galloping south. He had told a human to tell Graeme of what he was doing. He knew what Graeme would of thought. Why not send a messanger? The ogres had been acting suspicious and they had surprised them before. To do what the humans predicted what they would do would be irrelevant. No, they were going to attack somewhere other then the Coastal Cities. And his guess was on the capital. The Capital was guarded strongly with the delta making it hard for the ogres to get to the capital thanks to the many rivers. If they hurried they could destory the bridges and that would slow the ogres down. Then they could use hit-and-run tactics as they tried building new ones. When they finally reached the city, the city wall would be operated and the men would be prepared. -
Ogre Raid.
#68ooc:He's holding on to the posts holding the tent up so his imprents of his feet can't be seen.
Dekkrokh smiled as he had as much information to get back and tell Greame and Sentinel what their plan was.He jumped from the tent silently and ran back to his horse quietly and saddle up and rode off into the woods heading back to the encampment quielty so he would not end up like Akuma. -
Ogre Raid.
#69Sentinel and his men stopped infront of Dekkrokh. Sentinel looked the mercenary in the eyes and yelled out harshly.
"Well! What have you found out?!"
He said as he tilted his head -
Ogre Raid.
#70He looked at the man and smiled as he said.
"They are planning on attacking the imperial city, that's all I know from what two of their leading officers said when I was sneaking around gathering information."
He said as he looked at Seninel and smiled a mischallaneous smile under his mask.
"Where are you going?"
He asked as he got off his horse and walked up to him. -
Ogre Raid.
#71He smirked as he whistled out to his men yelling as loudly as he could.
"To Calan."
The calvary started to gallop going around the mercenary as Sentinel looked back down at the mercenary.
"To Calan."
He said more quitly and galloped away quickly, getting ahead of his men once more -
Ogre Raid.
#72"So the Ogres plan to march on Calan. They are in for a surprise." Graeme said. He made his way down to the area where the Grey company rested as the Rangers and the mercenary departed with their forces. "Captain, ready the men to ride, and ride hard. We are going to make for the capital before these monsters do."
"Banner captain, maintain the fortress here, reinforcements will come as soon as they can." he addressed the captain of the Silver Boars. He mounted his horse, a hearty grey saddlebred, and gave the stallion his spurs.
The mounted company joined him quickly, forming into ranks and moving out of the fortress in a long serpent. It would be a long ride to the capital, but he had to be there, he to be instrumental in the defeat of the ogres is he was to become the next emperor of Calan. There could be no other fate. -
Ogre Raid.
#73Sentinel galloped his horse hard as he yelled out orders to his men to get into ranks. One in which the front would be a hard phalanx and the flanks would be swordsmen only with the back being archers. If Sentinel could get the Imperial Airforce ready they would have a surprise for the ogres indeed, especially if the airships already had the artillery mounted on them -
Ogre Raid.
#74Snake Tail marched at the head of the Ogre column, sparing an occasional glance for the unconcious human scout who lay strapped to the back of the hulking warrior who walked beside him.It would be a full 5 hours before the humans woke from his narcotic induced slumber.Until then the horde would have too keep moving as quickly as possible towards Calan. The human would have to be interrogated on the move, allthough that would be a little akward. -
Ogre Raid.
#75Dekkrokh glanced back at the advancing army smiling as he saw the other mercenary strapped to the back of an ogre. He looked at Graeme and asked.
"Should I take out the other merc. before they can find out your plans?" -
Ogre Raid.
#76Sentinel looked around him and leaned into his horse as he waved his hand. One of his officers came riding up and he turned his head to look at the young officer.
"What have you learned?"
The man gulped and spoke in rapid succesion.
"The ogres have captured a mercenary and are planning on interrigating him."
Sentinel turned his head forward looking out into the horizon where lay the ignorant city of Calan.
"Send about 10 calvary archers, at night they are to attack the ogres and kill the mercenary, even if it means their death, tell them if they are captured they are to kill themselves."
He knew they would follow their orders. It was the Anawaith Law. -
Ogre Raid.
#77OOC: first I am not riding horse back and two the last part of your post need to reflect that I am not a human, a combat encounter will ensuse when your few many arrive. -
Ogre Raid.
#78Out of nowhere a dart struck Akuma in the left shoulder. It would have work against him if he were human but the tip broke on the his hard carpace. Imeadiatly He duked down and under his cloak he drew two of his swords and laid them on the ground with his guiding spell on them, then he drew his other four and waited to see how many ogres would come over the hill for him.
As he heard the foot steps aproch him he was almost disapointed, only two. As the two ogres reached the crest of the hill Akumas two scimitars with the guiding spell on them lept from the ground at them. Neither blow was fatal but each ogre had a severly wounded shoulder. Akuma then shrugged off his cloak and lunged at one of the ogres a he let his guided sword occupy the other. the ogre he lunged at took a few steps back and shouted, something about a demon and running water. Akuma couldn't understand ogre very well but was at least sure of that part of the ogres last scream before death.
Akuma then turned to the other and speaking very slowly said...
"I am not fighting as part of an army but I can be just as dangerous. let your chief know that I will kill every ogre I meet from this day on."
With that Akuma kept the guided blades on his foe for a short time as he cover most of the distance between himself and the woods. Not wanting to risk loseing his sword to the distance he called them back, then disapeared into the woods. -
Ogre Raid.
#79Dekkrokh looked at him and nodded as he jump back onto his horse and rode off with everyone else. -
Ogre Raid.
#80OOC:Just discount what I wrote about your capture. The Ogre horde, however, still marches on to Calan and will soon be there.
