They huddle around the Sunstones, surviving off the meager farming possible under the stone’s warm radiance. Few dare to travel in the dark spaces between the stones, an endless sea of snow, ash, monsters, and desolation. Despite it all, that candle flame of hope has never been extinguished; for some still believe that someday the Dragons will return to lead us to Spring.

And they’re right.

Being the first human to step off the wrung of a ship's ladder and onto the living breathing soil of a new planet spoils you for every other form of thrill or experience. I am not kidding. We have support groups in the Galactic Scouting Guild. Those untouched garden goldilocks worlds are few and far between, and once you land on one...well...there will always be a part of you standing in that airlock and sweating in your encounter suit right before the door rolls open.

I took the basic concept of the Star Whale and am using as the basis of all the game logic of the setting. What would a world look like that was subjected to regular apocalypses every 1000 years and why is there no information available to the pc's on how to stop them.

Barathra is quite simply the Land of the Dead, the Afterlife. It, simply put, defies the Atheians' expectations. After all, for most, it is Hell.

Visitors will have to skulk around in the dark to avoid the curse carried by the sunlight. Because (have I mentioned?) the sun is the source of a powerful curse--one that covers the whole planet.
