SkyBlue Cloaksmen and their Carts
With a florish of his sky blue cape, he deposited his delectable bundle on the table. He efficiently began to serve those who where sitting about the table. After the clinking of a few coins, he was gone. It was scene repeated day in and day out around the city, such was the way of the SkyBlue men.
The Men of the Sky Blue Cloaks are a fixture in certain parts of the city. Unlike most carters who just sell to passers by, the Cloaksmen deliver directly to their home or shop. The price is reasonable, the price of the meal in an inn, plus plate charges and notable tip for the server.
Orders are collected either the previous day or by runners sent to the Yellow Diamond Inn in the area. (The local messengers guild is trying to make the kids who do this members of their guild to prevent infringement.) Yellow Diamond Inns are a small consortium of superior taverns/ restaurants who provide the fine foods for the Cloaksmen. The food is packed in appropriate crocks and covered plates and kept warm with stoked coals (or cool depending on the cart) just like normal food carts. Yellow Diamond Plates and Crocks have a huge deposit, nearly five times more than the expected copper or two. However they are of a finer make. Often a runner will come by in a few hours and pick them up the same day.
The Cloaksmen wear a distinctive sky blue cloaks over finer clothing. They are clean and well groomed, as one would expect of a servercrafters. The Cloaksmen are masters of ServerCraft: polite, polished, and professional in their presentation. They are totally discreet and will not talk of their recipients. (Think English Butler if you need a hook.) This allows anyone to be served like a DiMan, a person of importance. The expected tip is really a fee for service. There is an expected amount, plus what ever real tip you want to give them. It is normally a two silver (plus one per extra two people) and some change (with 40 silver being an average person's weekly wages) per delivery. The Cloaksmen only operate in finer areas, so they do not worry much about crime. In fact, some Cloaksmen are doing so well that they can afford to hire someone else (or two) to push their cart(s).
Notes
The Yellow Diamond consortium are the sort that will extend tabs and credit to their better customers. Some Cloaksmen will do the same.
While these are an Antioch Institution, they are exporting themselves to SecondLand and Amar. Most Cloaksmen are former bonded servants who have either moved to ThirdLand or are freed from service (due to loss of clan family position).
Campaign Uses
Sometimes you just want a good meal delivered to your place. You can tap a kid to bring in an order (possibly with the money for the order, just because you are a first timer). They may decline your order because they don't know you or it is too late. You can have characters be annoyed that they are not part of the "establishment"
Some Coaksmen might be regularly and discreetly passing notes. The messenger guild gets wind and there might be trouble in the streets and the law might get involved.
With their distinctive Sky Blue Cloak, these men can gain access to many places with a minimum of fuss. This can make their cloak and cart an effective ruse to gain access. Useful for robberies, thefts, intrusions, casing the joint, and the like.
Some say Intelligencers (Spies) will be Cloaksmen just to see what they overhear. Others just "tap" the Cloaksmen who are a bit deficient on the the discreet aspect of their personal code. (Thus setting up blackmail and getting the dirt on people).

Very good. The equivilant of pizza delivery people.
More like Waiters on Wheels or Embassy Services, but the idea is there.
This is a great idea for a city based campaign for reoccuring NPC's... Or possibly a way for a more gifted PC can get a part time job perhaps.
Fun and quite usable!
A somewhat more civilized entry than our typical pseudo-dark-ages fare. Good stuff.
