Imuricum Weapons (aka Scorpion's Tail)

'Across my back rests the Scorpion's Tail; a long, narrow, scythe-like thorn forged of Bronzed Imuricum, tempered with the blood of the Dragonkind, those ancient scourges of man, and sharpened against scale and talon alike.'

105 xp 10,674 views

Only the greatest of alchemists can even dare to attempt to extract Raw Imuricum; only the most foolish metallurgists mix it with inferior materials, but only the bravest master Weaponsmiths will actually create weapons from this rare and dangerous metal.

Imuricum is found only in Adamantite covered by Red Mui'aan Fungus. The fungus reacts violently with the metal, causing it to crystallize. The mixture of the crystals and the fungus was originally used in the making of Dragon Dust, a highly explosive mixture used to fire Westerman Hand Cannons. If processed properly, it can be used as a flux for Weaponsmithing.

The Scorpion's Tail was the first weapon to be crafted from an Imuricum alloy; Bronzed Imuricum. It is the physical manifestation of Durand Farcry's unwavering hatred towards 'those ancient scourges of man'. To quench the heated blade, it is plunged into Cloud Dragon's blood.

Once the thorn-shaped monstrosity was forged, it was then sharpened by scraping against the bones, teeth, claws, and scales of an adult Tree-rot Dragon.

Because it was crafted using unorthodox methods and dangerous materials, many guilds and even entire kingdoms have banned the creation of Imuricum weapons.

The Scorpion's Tail has long since been destroyed, but the mysterious arts of forging Imuricum still exist in the darker corners of the world...

Magical Properties:

The Scorpion's Tail is a scythe-like polearm designed solely for piercing strikes. It was crafted using unorthodox methods and dangerous materials; therefore, it has some drawbacks.

The Red Mui'aan Fungus' spores are extremely fast-acting neurotoxins. The toxins are administered through contact with the skin or bloodstream. As a result, the wielder goes into a psychotic rage. Since much of the Imuricum still holds Red Mui'aan spores, the blood used to quench the blade activates it, imprinting the genetic signatures of the Dragonkind into the neurotoxins, narrowing the wielder's rage to attack only dragons.

Because prolonged exposure to the spores can prove fatal, Imuricum weapons will forever be considered the deadliest weapons in Emmurn'raxish.

And, yes, I DID vote for my own weapon.

    And not modestly I note.

These weapons destroys characters, you know. Once they find one, it makes them go into a psychotic rage against whatever the blade was quenched in. The character instantly becomes an NPC. Not much fun for the player as thier character goes off on a madman's quest for bloodlust.

    3/5

I am well aware of that fact, but you cannot expect every item that comes into this site to be a 'pretty little gift from the gods.' I, Silas the DESTROYER, came here because of this fact. There were not enough 'bad' weapons, so I came to fill in the darker side of the universe.

Also, I am amazed how little imaginations you people have. You are supposed to be D/GMs, yet you all complain about how 'incomplete' something is. If everything was handed down to you on a platter, there wouldn't be a use for games like D&D.

Why not use that idle imagination of your's and send the wielder of this weapon on a quest for an antidote. WOW, how HARD was THAT.

    Geez.

Read my post 'The Devil's Footsteps' to see more of the bad side weapons you can't find.

Your post is not incomplete, it is unbalanced. It gives more power than most G/DM's are willing to let thier PCs run loose with.

The other memebers that wanted to hear more about the background of your items were interested in them and thier ideas, and that is something we do around here as a mark of respect.

Take a deep breath, learn to sue constructive critisism constructivly, and chill.

Instead of telling me what is wrong with my item, you are just telling me how crappy it is. THAT is destructive criticism.

I have no idea if Imuricum is your creation or not, Silas, but do you mind if I tinker with it? Maybe think of a weapon to submit and the like? the metal would be a nice base to ponder a few creations with.

    Another thing:

Why not post 'Imuricum' as an item in the website? not everything in this place has to be flashy to be a good item, and worth a 4 or 5 in the voting. You could explain the properties, how it is found naturally, what alloys could be made to it, and what items are ideally crafted with it.

by all means, tinker. You ARE a D/GM. Have all the fun in the world with it.

Why not post 'Imuricum' as an item in the website? not everything in this place has to be flashy to be a good item.

I happen to like flashy things.

    You could explain the properties,

    I don't understand the question..

    How it is found naturally,

I did. It is found on Adamantite that has been reacted to by Red Mui'aan Fungus (which is actually a mold). And Adamantite is found underground, so...

what alloys could be made to it,

It can be alloyed with any metal or metalloid.

And what items are ideally crafted with it.

It can be crafted into anything, but it is most effectively forged into weapons.

Also, there is a cure to the 'Red Insanity'. (Lovely name for it, eh?) It is far rarer than Imuricum itself. Atop the jagged cliffs of the Gray Mountains, on the far side of the Plainlands, grows a peculiar kind flower that blooms once every fortnight. The pollen from these rare flowers can kill the spores of the Red Mui'aan Fungus. However, its effectiveness toward the 'hated' creatures will no longer be...

Thank you nad have a good day.

-I prefer flashy things, too, actually :)

-properties of the metal: melting and boiling point, malleability, lustre, conductivity of electricity & heat etc...

-I just meant to include how it is found naturally in the Imuricum item page, if you made one, instead of leaving it for people to find the other page which explains how it is made.

    ----------------------

If you don't want to make the item, mind if I do, as well? :P I like having one page, summarised, to work off.

properties: I left this stuff up to the D/GM. Have fun with it

Go ahead and make the page. I would actually like to see how someone else would word it. ^^

This is much better. Calm, intelligent discussion of ideas, thats the stuff I really like to see here.

Personally, I think flashpoints and other more scientific properties of items is a bit overkill. If a game uses those in the gameplay, I would try to avoid playing that myself. Although luster is always cool 8)

The cure for 'Red Insanity' good too, because it 'dulls' the benefits of the blade while taking away the drawback. Keeps it on the balance it's at.

If you have a group of skilled players who can roleplay the psychosis, then the drawback of the sword can be fairly implemented. If they are newbies or munchkins, then the GM would have to step in and make the player an NPC. And I personally know more of the latter types than the skilled ones.

Discussion is going the right way. While this item is not what I seek (nor what I would use), it gives ideas to someone.

I wanted to propose a simple solution to avoiding the bad effect (gauntlets), but Shadoweagles description of the material itself elegantly exludes this option.

As for Evil items, or 'bad weapons', there are so few here because it is so hard to actually create a really Evil and cool item. But note the Sadist Dagger...

I believe the gauntlets would have little effect on the spores, since they are likely to be airborne, although they would have to have a short lifespan or it would cause an epidemic of rage when the weilder entered a town. Although that could be interesting.

It isn't a fantastic item (and Silas The Destroyer certainly didn't carry himself with gravitas), but for some reason, I just like it...

    Agreed Cap, me too!

To me its the names he uses. You can kinda tell its a nifty world he's got going there.

Scorpion-Tail scythe, Emmurn'raxish, Durand Farcry, Imuricum, Tree-Rot Dragon, Westerman Hand Cannons, Red Mui'aan Fungus, etc...

    he's got a lively imagination :)

Not so much 'Durand Farcry' or 'Westermann', those seem fairly standard fantasy, but other than that, yeah

Well, how's Xarschia for a fantastic name, Cap? By-the-by, this is Silas the Destroyer, though that name has little meaning for me now... Yes, I was a bit of a grump about criticism, but that was in the past.

On a lighter note, I am glad to see ny imagination lauded so. It warms the cockles of my heart.

I hope to see you all again soon, if my computer will allow it, that it!

I have to second CP and Muro on this one. The nice comments that show how far we have gotten since then.

I spent more time reading the comments than I did the actual submission, though both were entertaining. The sub is decent, but the awesome names take it up a notch. Not bad.

Silas logged on in 09 as Xarschia, he did not, however, create new submissions. But his other sub on the Silas profile is worth checking out.
