Grothar's oxen driking horn has an ornate silver encasement over the bottom half of the horn. The ornate carvings are of a large table surrounded by dwarves with their hands holding drinking horns raised in a toast.
Grothar Rockfury was a legendary adventurerer that, like most dwarves, loved his ale. Not just any ale, but the prized ale of the Falorian Mountain Clan said to be the best in the land by those that know such things. His need for a good ale after a mighty fight prompted him pay a wizard to create the drinking horn. The wizard, unable to get it to work with fresh water reverted to salt water. Said it had something to do with the aging process.
Magical Properties:
The drinking horn will change salt water into Falorian Ale as it passes over the lips of those that drink out of it.
You are not able to just put saltwater and pour Falorian Ale out of it, it only works as somebody drinks out of it. It is the best damn ale in the realms and is a perfect likeness to true Falorian Ale in every way.

It all depends on who is going to be in posession of the drinking horn and of course if your players are willing to roleplay.
Now I have a couple of characters that would like to drink ale every night and they don't mind playing out the consecuencss...
If I remember correctly, there will be a fortitude save involved that gets more difficult every time you empty the horn.... If not, I will invent it and who ever failes the save, will have a nice long lasting head-ace or other faith that has to do with being drunk.
Sounds like my kind of item!
Finally a practical use for magic! Enough with the trapping somebody's soul in a golden crystal or the summoning of powerful demons: a man needs a drink. Of course with this horn you'd be counting your coppers for a block of salt instead a flagon of wine.
I, too, have some players that would love to have this item and would roleplay it. Think I'll let Brunor the Dwarf hear about it; he'd be off like a flash!
What about one that would also make Elven Wine, or other fine drinks, according to the imbiber's preference?
Wow, Ramhir. You really like to dig deep in the library catacombs of the Citadel. Its nice to see all these old ones again, I just cant believe the amount of material that I have read but failed to comment on.
The horn will turn saltwater into the finest dwarven ale That line says it all right there. Great little item.
I'm giving this thing to my recurring dwarven sea-captain npc, Qroth Saltguts, captain of three-banked drommond, Qysa's Tomb. And I thank you for unearthing this. This may sound like a silly comment, but I love my dwarven sea-captain, and this thing is *perfect* for him to own.
The use of salt water has the effect of making it very difficult to discover it's secret. Few dwarves venture to sea, and still fewer would even think of sullying a drinking vessel with salt water.
