Gar-Monkey
Gar-Monkey look like small chimpanzees with long (nearly prehensile) tails and two feathery wings. They have become pests in most human habitats. However, most people do not know their real reason for being.
Full Description
This 'species' was created when a wizard (one Sherizan by name) attempted to create Gargoyle like creatures to be his minion. The Gar-Monkeys were the natural creature that became stepping stone of Sherizan's GarGronds (Huge Flying Stone Gorillas)
During an 'unfortunate event' at his lair, a few breeding pairs of Gar-Monkeys were released. A few centuries later, they have flourished and spread across the Lands. In some areas they have replaced crows and pigons as the nuisance flying creatures.
Gar-Monkey look like small chimpanzees with long (nearly prehensile) tails and two feathery wings. They are nearly as strong and durable as a human male, though they are a little more than 1/3 the size. Gar-Monkeys are as smart as chimps as well, so they will occasionally use things they pick up. They are also 'trainable', so they are used to carry messages and as entertainment.
Additional Information
note: Many people have captured large numbers of Gar-Monkeys to experiment on them, all in an attempt to make GarGronds of their own.

This is a perfect simple creature to throw at any unsuspecting troupe who think they know everything there is to know about the world.
The Gar-monkeys are simple yet an annoyance at the same time. I can only imagine what a small flock of these could do to farmlands. This is a nice touch to add a non-combative creature into a world.
The fun part is... they might actually be hired to capture a bunch of these things. ... pest controlers, but required to take them mostly alive. So they do it.
Then they meet the Evil Bad Guy later, find out it was the guy who hired them for 'prest control'. Imagine the feeling when they are facing down Gar-Gronds or partially mutated Gar-Monkeys that they got for the EBG.
I like the idea, but would like more information about them. For example, are they fleshy or stone-like? based on the description I'd go with the first, and I know constructs don't have to be hard (for ex. flesh golems) but I shouldn't assume. And they seem to be very smart for constructs. I guess as described these don't sound like a construct to me, but I'm not going to dock points for a categorization.
I'd like to know how they behave, what they eat, whether they are social. I like the idea, but it's not quite enough for me (and a little too wizard of oz ;-p)
They are flesh like. In fact, they are very much like the critters from WoOz. GarGrond, after mutating, are more 'Thing-Like'. I would picture them Igo-esk (Herculoids), personally, but to each their own.
If you want their behavior pattern, watch any Chimp special on PBS or such. Yes, they are winged monkeys because they have tails. Yes, they waunder around in troops. They normally eat fruit and nuts from trees, but in urban environments they can scavange anything. Flying and grasping, with a little group cooperation, oh yes, they can be a real pest able to get many things.
They are simply magically mutated real animals which have the 'matrix' that allows them to be mutated further, into GarGronds. Unfortunate for the world, they breed true.
Updated: More spelling updates
Ah, the unexpected consequence of animal transmutation. For some reason, I can see some peoples, especially the more poor sort having recipes for catching and eating gar-monkey. I like the imagry, but I also love the flying monkies from the Wizard of Oz.
Hmmmm.... Gar Monkey recipes. A Dash of Salt, here I come.
I like these. The iconic flying monkey image with a suitable backstory and potential evolution. GarGronds sound pretty damn scary, but their name is deceptively non-threatening.
These critters are cool. Maybe there are even spider-monkey sized ones that take the place of many birds in an area.
