Children have been disappearing from a village of goat-herding nomads for the past X years. The superstitious locals blame it on the Gatha, a troll living in the woodlands.

That is not all. The herders are surprised by the goats' speed of reproduction. They seem to multiply much faster than usual.

The Gatha is an old troll living in the forest. She is does make occasional night-time raids to the village to capture children, but she does not eat them. She has been charmed by a bitter witch, who has some personal grudge with the villagers.

She transforms the children into goats, which Gatha then returns back to the village.

Imagine finding out what the tasty goat, at the dinner table, is made of... This has been going on for years.

What will the PCs do when and if they find out the truth?
What will they do to poor old Gatha?

Hall of Honour

for Disappearing children

The Hall of Honour is your mark on a submission you believe is frick’n awesome — so good you would jump in front of a dragon’s breath to protect the scroll it is written on.

Bestowing HoH also highlights it on the front of the Citadel for about a day, so others see the recognition it earned.

You may bestow HoH on the same submission up to your level (with a short wait between strikes). Five distinct HoH voters raise a work to Golden.

The twist is certainly interesting and deserving of further detailing. There could really be more information on this witch and why she bears sucha grudge against said villagers that she is willing to turn their children into livestock and then have them returned.

I dont know that the troll is that important to the story since a foul tempered outlaw, or village pariah would do equally well in the instance of a courier since a troll is likely to attract undo attention. More background, more details, and perhaps a plot hook on how the PCs could be drawn into this rather than killing the troll and 'stumbling' onto the secret.

I agree, but I'd probably rate it a little higher, though it's on the short side...

I bet the final version of this scenario was fun to play, it seems like a good idea. Sure it borrows heavily from a certain scenario from a certain computer game (Icewind Dale 2 was it?) ;) but I like it anyhow, it has been altered sufficiently to not resemble the game too much. Other than that, I agree with the others.

This smells like a Grimm fairy tale. Simple and effective.
