Dimble Stumpwater
Dimble Stumpwater is this worlds last best hope for expedient library book returns
Special Equipment:
numerous clock springs and gears rattling in his pockets, and the old gilded spectacles resting on the tip of his nose
Appearance:
Dimble is a small round fellow, usually in dirty cloths as he often forgets to bath, and never without some dusty old tome.
Background:
Dimble was born to kindly parents in the village of woundtite. Always the studious gnome he disassembled the waterwheel at the local mill to study its design.
Soon thereafter he was bid a fond farewell and sent to study under Magus Allister Serianden in the city of Alban Percidious. There found the knowledge he desperately desired. In his private time he read extensively in the library of the Magus, learning to put entire books to memory. One afternoon in the alchemy lab he even discovered his own formula for Greek Fire.
Soon thereafter he was bid a fond farewell and sent to make his way in the world.
Roleplaying Notes:
Dimble revers knowledge more than all else, and has made it his lifes goal to personally know everything the world can teach, and as such has been employed from everything to a bookbinder and restorer, to an architect and engineer, as well as a historian to the royal family.
Dimble can usually be found either in a library or traveling to some far off cities library.

A little cliche,if you don't mind my saying so.
I think greek fire does NOT FIT WELL into a librarian's description.
An average sort of post. What they said, with a grudging acceptence. It is a bit short, but too the point- which I can appreciate.
It should of been in the minor/ extras thread to be warmly received. But since the extras/ minors will be in the npc listing eventually, no harm no foul.
2.5/5
If I read this right Dimble just likes to learn all he can, which of course sometimes involves a few "little experiments", regardless of the consequences.
It's not hat he's "bad" because he isn't, he's just reckless. He gets intrigued by what he CAN do. He just never stops to think about whether he SHOULD do it.
True, a bit if a cliche, but he does make an interesting NPC. He could be used to cause all sorts of problems without actually being a villain (means the PCs can't just beat him up and call it a day - they'll have to find a different solution).
BTW - I think the Greek Fire is perfectly within character - he found the formula (maybe not actually realising what it as) and, true to type, mixed it up to see what it does - BOOM and Magus Allister Serianden bids him a fond farewell
Not original enough to be brilliant, but quite good nonetheless
3/5
I'm midway between Moon and Dragon Lord here; the rough idea is definitely cliche - the tinker gnome design - but I do admit I find the concept somewhat amusing, and I do like the idea that he absently stumbled across something as potent as Greek Fire, which is how discoveries usually tend to be made on these kinds of oddities.
I rather expect he'd have been in the kitchen rather than an alchemy lab, though; kitchens are where both vulcanized rubber and a particular explosive I can't recall the name of were discovered, by some men goofing off in the kitchen when they were supposed to be looking for work.
This is an okay outline, perhaps as an entry for a '30', but it is too terse for a sub. We know he looks like a tinker gone, likes knowledge and has invented a few things. His personality is not explored.
